About our thermal roof survey in The Haven
Thermal imaging can also show where a roof is losing heat. Missing or slipped insulation and gaps at the eaves often show up as temperature differences. The difference shows most clearly when it is warm inside and cold outside. Our report points out what the images suggest and where to look more closely. We don’t give energy ratings or heat loss calculations. We survey pitched roof slopes, insulated roof spaces and flat roofs, and people most often book us about areas of a flat roof that may hold water and heat escaping through the roof.
In a village or hamlet like The Haven, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you can’t get from ground level. Weather and airspace are checked before the visit, and the journey is planned ahead of time. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.
Where we cannot see part of the roof, the report says so. That way, it’s clear what was covered and what wasn’t.

The Haven questions
Does a conservation area affect roof work in The Haven?
You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it’s in a conservation area. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
Do you cover The Haven?
Yes, The Haven is within the area we cover. Our area covers London and South East England. Just ring 07833 053749 or email us and let us know about the property, and we’ll talk through which survey suits.
Which days do you carry out surveys?
Surveys run seven days a week. To arrange a date, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email.
Can you survey a shared roof?
Yes, once whoever controls the roof agrees access. On a shared roof we can only inspect the parts we are allowed to reach.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Not always. Some roofs are too steep or fragile to walk on safely. Safe viewpoints, the loft and a drone where it applies let us see the rest.
Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?
Every survey is covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance, and details are available on request.
When does the report arrive?
The Premium Survey report comes the same day, the Standard within 24–48 hours and the Basic within 48 hours. Each one is emailed.
Different roofs, different checks
Loft insulation
Loft insulation is easily disturbed when people store things or run cables. The camera can show where it no longer covers the ceiling.
GRP fibreglass roofs
Cracks in GRP can let water into the boards beneath. We check cracks by eye and use the images to see whether there is a pattern around them.
Surveys for landlords and agents in The Haven
For a freeholder or residents’ company, a roof report is a sound basis for a maintenance plan, with the most urgent items set out first.
Buyers’ agents can book surveys on behalf of their clients. The report is emailed, so it can go straight to your client, photos included.
Prices for thermal roof surveys in The Haven
A few things affect what a survey costs:
- Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
- Basic, Standard or Premium
- The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
- Commercial roofs and larger buildings
What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how safely it can be seen. Prices start from £400, including VAT.
What to let us know when you contact us
There is no need for technical words. It’s enough to tell us:
- Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
- Any deadline, like an exchange date
- Where the property is, with the postcode
- Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
Our price is from £400, including VAT. The exact figure depends on the roof and the package, and you can call 07833 053749 or email us to find out.
Honest limits
No survey can tell you everything, and it’s better to know them up front. Bear these in mind:
- What’s inside walls or under coverings, without opening up
- Reliable images in rain, strong wind or on a wet roof surface
- Insulation values or heat loss calculations
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will tell you. What a survey covers and does not.

Drones, thermal imaging and The Haven roofs
If your home is older, it’s worth knowing whether it is listed or in a conservation area before planning roof work. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, and councils can also use Article 4 directions to control changes in conservation areas. If your survey includes the drone, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.

What happens on the day
The visit has one job: to see as much of the roof as can be seen safely and record it clearly. Everything we note and photograph goes into the written report. The visit usually takes an hour or two for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. Somewhere as small as The Haven, access is frequently the only tricky part. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Weekday and weekend visits are available.
- First we go over the roof, the problem you’ve noticed and the conditions forecast for the visit.
- We check the roof from ground level, from windows and from the roof itself where it is safe.
- Thermal images are taken to show differences in surface temperature.
- We check the patterns that stand out with moisture readings where there’s safe access.
- The report sets out the images, what they suggest and what we recommend.
How to prepare
- Leave side gates unlocked
- Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand
- Clear the way to the loft hatch

- Cold spots on ceilings under the roof
- Patches of heat loss across the roof
- Gaps in loft insulation
Around The Haven, each roof gets the same safe, thorough look, and the findings in plain words.
