Turners Hill Thermal Roof Survey
A careful look at the roof at your property in Turners Hill, and put it all in a written report with photographs.
- Water getting in at parapets and stacks
- Ceilings that feel colder in places
- Damp patches with no obvious cause
Thermal roof survey in Turners Hill: what you get
Flat roofs over extensions, garages, flats and commercial buildings are where thermal imaging frequently helps most. It can show patterns that point to trapped moisture under the membrane. Pitched roofs with slates or tiles are frequently harder to read, because of the air space beneath, so we also look from the loft where we can reach it safely. Typical surveys look at patches of heat loss across the roof and cold areas below the roof, across commercial roofs, loft conversions and flat roofs.
Somewhere as small as Turners Hill, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what cannot be reached safely. Weather and airspace are checked ahead of the visit, and the journey is planned beforehand. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.
If any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely, we say so in the report. You will know exactly what was inspected and what wasn’t.

What you can safely check yourself
You can learn a lot from ground level. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Never climb onto the roof to look.
During heavy rain, look at the gutters from the ground or a window. Overflowing water can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
What we are asked to look at in Turners Hill
Not every roof problem shows on the surface. Wet insulation, gaps in insulation and heat loss are often invisible from outside. Thermal imaging gives us another way to look for them.
Typical things we are asked to look at include:
- Moisture around outlets and upstands
- Ceilings that feel colder in places
- Areas of a flat roof that may hold water
- Damp where roofs meet walls and chimneys
If you look after a building like Turners Hill CofE Primary School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.
What to check before booking
- What the report includes, and whether it has photos
- Whether any drone flown is registered with the CAA
- Whether VAT is in the quoted price
- Whether they hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance
Common questions in Turners Hill
Will you come out to Turners Hill?
Yes. Turners Hill is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our area covers London and South East England. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when booking.
How do I find out if my home in Turners Hill is listed?
Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it’s worth checking before planning any.
What insurance do you have?
Our cover is professional indemnity plus public liability, and we can provide details if a managing agent needs them.
How soon will I get the report?
Each package has its own report time. Basic: within 48 hours. Standard: 24 to 48 hours. Premium: the same day. If you have a deadline, such as an exchange date, let us know when you book.
Do I have to be there for the survey?
Not always. An outside-only look can be arranged beforehand, but the loft and any rooms with damp need someone to let us in.
I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?
Yes, once access has been agreed. The roof of a block or converted house is frequently shared, so we need permission from whoever owns or manages the building. We can only inspect what we are given access to.
Will you walk on the roof?
Only when it’s safe. Safe viewpoints, the loft space and a drone where it applies cover most of what’s needed, and anything out of sight is recorded in the report.
Different roofs, different checks
Loft insulation
Heat loss shows most clearly when it is warm inside and colder outside. Our report notes how the conditions affected the images.
Felt and asphalt flat roofs
Built-up felt and asphalt roofs can hide trapped water for a long time. Thermal imaging helps suggest where it is, when the conditions allow.
Flying and imaging in Turners Hill
Many older homes in Sussex have handmade clay tiles and tile-hung walls. A few old Sussex buildings still carry heavy Horsham stone slabs. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from ground level, drone photos and thermal images add detail. The wider area around Turners Hill has a long history of building, with Gravetye Manor about 1.6 miles south-east. Older homes in the wider area frequently have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.
Take an older house close to Church of St Leonard: older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help.
