Felbridge Thermal Roof Survey
Know where you stand with the roof before you decide what to do next. Thermal roof surveys in Felbridge, with photos and a clear written report.
- Leaks far from where the stain appears
- Heat escaping through the roof
- Stains that keep coming back
For landlords and managing agents
An agent can book and manage the survey for a landlord, with the report sent to whoever needs it. We agree a time with the tenant beforehand.
Buyers’ agents can book surveys on behalf of their clients. The report is emailed, so it can go straight to your client, photos included.
Thermal roof survey in Felbridge: what you get
Flat roofs over extensions, garages, flats and commercial buildings are where thermal imaging often helps most. Patterns can suggest where water is trapped under the covering. Pitched roofs with slates or tiles are often harder to read, because of the air space beneath, so we also look from the loft where we can reach it safely. Typical surveys look at water getting in at parapets and stacks and wet insulation beneath the membrane, on insulated roof spaces, pitched roof slopes and commercial roofs.
Some older homes in villages like Felbridge are listed or in a conservation area. A look by drone or thermal camera doesn’t touch the roof, so it is a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.
Where we can’t see part of the roof, the report says so. That way, it’s clear what was covered and what wasn’t, and what we’d suggest next.

What we look for on each type of roof
Pitched slate and tile roofs
Inside the roof space, thermal images can help with damp around stacks, valleys and roof windows. Findings are checked with moisture readings.
Felt and asphalt flat roofs
On felt and asphalt flat roofs, wet insulation can show as a temperature difference across the surface. Moisture readings are used to check them.
How it works
Every visit follows the same pattern: we hear what you’ve seen, look at the roof from every safe viewpoint, take photographs as we go and record our findings for the written report. It usually takes between one and two hours for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. Cottages and farmhouses around Felbridge often have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints, and anything we cannot see is noted.
- First we discuss the roof, any damp and the forecast for the visit.
- We look over the roof from wherever it’s safe.
- Thermal images are taken across the roof and, where there is safe access, in the loft.
- Patterns that stand out are checked with moisture readings.
- The report pairs each thermal image with a photo and explains what it suggests.
Preparing for the visit
- Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
- Let us know about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of
- Jot down any questions you want answered

Tips that help
Small things make a difference. Some pointers:
- Move stored items away from the loft hatch
- Do not climb onto the roof to look for leaks yourself
- Remember the conditions on the day affect the results
- Take photos of stains as they appear, so we can compare
The report explains the conditions on the day and how they affected the images. That way you know how much weight to give each finding.
Check loft insulation covers the whole area and hasn’t been disturbed. Insulation is often moved when people work in the roof space.
When you need someone else
To be straight with you, a roof survey has limits:
- Proving moisture from the images alone
- A structural engineer’s assessment
- Reliable images in rain, strong wind or on a wet roof surface
If you are not sure which survey you need, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer. What a survey covers and doesn’t.

Airspace, weather and Felbridge roofs
Handmade clay tiles and tile-hung upper walls are typical of older Sussex houses. A few old Sussex buildings still carry heavy Horsham stone slabs. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up photos from the air and thermal images help. If the drone is used for your survey, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying.
Take an older house close to St John's Felbridge: tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement. Anyone responsible for a site like Felbridge Primary School will know that thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.

Felbridge questions
Is Felbridge within the area you cover?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our area covers London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.
Do you carry out roof surveys in Felbridge?
We do. Every survey there gets the same written report with photos.
Can you inspect my roof with a drone?
Yes, where it applies and safe. We fly a sub-250g drone and we’re a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). It’s included in the Drone Roof Survey and, where it applies, the Premium Survey.
What’s in the report?
Written findings with photos, explaining the condition of the roof, any defects and our recommendations. The Standard Survey adds moisture detection and a structural check, and the Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable and structural analysis.
What does a thermal roof survey show?
The images show how warm or cool each part of the surface is. Differences can suggest wet areas, missing insulation or heat loss, and we check them with moisture readings.
Can you give me structural calculations?
No. We are experienced roof surveyors, and visible signs such as sagging are noted, but we don’t provide calculations or an engineer’s opinion. If one is needed, the report says so.
Will you photograph what you find?
Yes. Photographs are part of every report.
Do you need a thermal roof survey in Felbridge?
After a repair, some owners want to know whether the roof has dried out. A thermal survey with moisture readings can show whether wet areas remain, given suitable conditions on the day.
Things that often lead to a survey include:
- Cold spots on ceilings under the roof
- Stains that keep coming back
- Areas of a flat roof that may hold water
- Leaks far from where the stain appears
With Saint Hill Manor about 2.5 miles south-east, the area around Felbridge has a long history. For older roofs nearby, a look from the air or with a thermal camera is a hands-off way to check condition.
