Wadhurst Thermal Roof Survey
Thermal imaging to find moisture and heat loss patterns in a roof in Wadhurst, carried out by an experienced roof surveyor. You get a clear written report with photos.
- Areas losing heat at the eaves and junctions
- Thin or uneven insulation in the roof
- Wet insulation beneath the membrane
How a thermal roof survey works in Wadhurst
Your report sets out the thermal images alongside ordinary photographs, making it clear where on the roof each pattern is. Each one comes with an explanation, the moisture readings and our recommendation. With a Premium Survey, the report reaches you the same day. You can talk the findings through with us at the in-person consultation. There’s a 12-month follow-up as well. If you’ve noticed areas of a flat roof that may hold water and wet areas near outlets and upstands, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.
Even in a smaller place like Wadhurst, there may be airfields or restrictions nearby, so every drone flight starts with a check of the Drone Safety Map. Exposed sites can be windy, and a small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind. Neighbours’ privacy is part of planning each flight, along with the airspace and the weather.
Report times depend on the survey you book: the Basic Survey within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey on the same day.

What happens if roof problems are left?
Thermal images can suggest the extent of wet areas without cutting into the roof. That helps you and your roofer decide what really needs replacing. Arranging work in a smaller place like Wadhurst is easier with notice than in an emergency. Knowing early gives you time to get the right people in.
Simple, low roofs take less time to survey than tall or complicated ones, and the package you pick makes a difference too. We’ll give you the figure before anything is booked.

Rented homes, blocks and businesses
An agent can book and manage the survey for a landlord, with the report sent to whoever needs it. We agree a time with the tenant beforehand.
If the property is let, the agent or a tenant can let us in, at a time agreed beforehand. We survey seven days a week, which helps when tenants work during the week.
Questions from Wadhurst
Do you cover Wadhurst?
Yes. We work right across London and South East England, and Wadhurst is part of that. Just call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and let us know about the property.
Do you cover smaller places like Wadhurst?
We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house, with the route planned beforehand.
Does the weather affect a thermal survey?
The weather makes a real difference. It works best after a sunny day, with a dry roof surface and little wind. Rain, wind and heavy cloud can weaken the patterns, so we talk through the forecast as you book.
Is thermal imaging useful on pitched roofs?
It can help, but the results are frequently less clear than on a flat roof. Slates and tiles over a ventilated space can mask what’s below, so we combine it with an inspection from the loft where there’s safe access.
Can you survey a shared roof?
Yes, once whoever controls the roof agrees access. We check the parts we are given access to, and the report makes that clear.
Is this a RICS survey?
No. Our survey looks at the roof, not the whole building. For the rest of the building, a RICS home survey is a separate job.
Is thermal imaging included in your surveys?
Our Premium Survey, from £400, includes thermal imaging. You also get an in-person consultation and a 12-month follow-up. For bigger commercial roofs, we quote on size.
What a survey costs
Not every roof costs the same to survey, and it comes down to:
- Basic, Standard or Premium
- The shape of the roof and its details
- Height and safe access
- House, block, shop or office
We offer three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all inc. VAT. What your roof costs depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.
Getting in touch
We’ll usually ask about:
- Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
- Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
- Any marks or damp showing indoors
- Whether there is a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
To book a survey, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and what you’d like to know about the roof. You will know the price before anything is booked.

Flying and imaging in Wadhurst
In Sussex, older roofs are often handmade clay tile, frequently with tile-hanging on the walls below. A few old Sussex buildings still carry heavy Horsham stone slabs, and the county’s older buildings include oast houses and Wealden hall houses. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these. Historic houses like Wadhurst Castle, about 0.1 miles south, show how far back building in the area around Wadhurst goes. On older houses around here, roofs often carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.
Take an older house close to The Parish Church of St Peter and St Paul: older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.

Practical tips
There’s plenty you can do without going near the roof. What helps most:
- Check from ground level or a window, never by climbing
- Keep the heating on as usual before a heat loss survey
- Note where damp appears and after what weather
- File the images with your roof records
Buyers can use the findings when talking to the seller or agent. It’s your decision how to use it, whether that is asking for work or discussing the price.
Check loft insulation covers the whole area and hasn’t been disturbed. Gaps often appear after work in the loft.
When to book a survey in Wadhurst
People often book a thermal survey when a damp patch has no obvious cause. Water can travel under a roof covering or along timbers before it shows inside. The camera helps narrow the search.
Here are some of the things we see often:
- Leaks far from where the stain appears
- Cold areas below the roof
- Heat escaping through the roof
- Water getting in at parapets and stacks
Take a building like Wadhurst CofE Primary School: a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.
Before you book any roof surveyor
- What they will not be able to tell you
- Their track record with similar roofs
- How soon the report will arrive
- Whether they hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance
What we do, step by step
The visit usually starts outside and finishes in the loft: first the slopes, edges and gutters from every safe viewpoint, then the roof space where it can be reached. In total, it takes between one and two hours on an ordinary house, and longer for a large or complex roof. Some parts of a survey depend on the weather, so a visit to Wadhurst is booked with the forecast in mind: drone flights and thermal imaging need the right conditions, while a look from ground level and the loft can go ahead in most weather.
- First we go over the roof, the problem you’ve noticed and the conditions forecast for the visit.
- We check the roof from the ground, from windows and from the roof itself where it’s safe.
- Thermal images are taken to show differences in surface temperature.
- Areas that look unusual on the camera are checked with moisture readings where possible.
- You get a report with thermal images, photographs and our recommendations.
Getting ready for the survey
- If it is not your property yet, arrange access through the agent
- Jot down any questions you want answered
- Agree roof access with the managing agent if it’s shared
