Thermal imaging roof survey in Walderton, West Sussex
Thermal roof surveys in Walderton, with over 20 years’ experience behind it. You get a clear report with photographs.
- Damp that repairs haven’t cured
- Heat escaping through the roof
- Damp where roofs meet walls and chimneys
What happens if roof problems are left?
Before replacing a large flat roof, it’s useful to know how much of it is actually wet. Images backed by moisture readings show where problems seem to be before you commit. Matching old materials, such as handmade tiles or stone slates, can take time to source. That is one more reason to find defects before they become urgent.
Thermal imaging and drone inspection (where applicable) come with the Premium Survey, from £400 inc. VAT. We can help you choose the package that fits what you’d like to know.

How a thermal roof survey works in Walderton
A thermal survey can point to places where heat is escaping through the roof. Gaps in loft insulation and poorly insulated areas can stand out on the images. The difference shows most clearly when it is warm inside and cold outside. The report shows the images and explains what they may mean. It isn’t an energy rating or a heat loss calculation. We survey pitched roof slopes, insulated roof spaces and commercial roofs, and people most frequently book us about damp patches with no obvious cause and cold spots on ceilings under the roof.
Somewhere as small as Walderton, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you can’t get from ground level. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.
Findings are set out part by part, from the coverings down to the gutters, each with a short note and a photo. You will see the good as well as the bad.

Different roofs, different checks
Parapets, valleys and junctions
Damp at junctions can be hard to see by eye. A careful visual inspection goes alongside the images.
Pitched slate and tile roofs
Slate and tile roofs are often harder to read with a thermal camera, because of the air space beneath. We back up what the camera shows with a look in the loft where we can.
Walderton: your questions answered
Do you cover smaller places like Walderton?
Yes, Walderton is covered. We work right across London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
Do you cover Walderton?
We do. Every survey there gets the same written report with photographs, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.
How long is the visit?
That depends on the size and shape of the roof, but most surveys take an hour or two for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. The written report follows by email.
Can you do a thermal survey in any weather?
The results depend on the weather. A dry surface, little wind and a sunny spell beforehand help most. We record the conditions in the report, so you know how much weight to give the images.
Are you structural engineers?
No. Our survey is not a structural engineer’s report, and it doesn’t include calculations. If we see signs that need an engineer’s opinion, we’ll recommend one.
What does the report include?
You get our findings in writing, part by part, with photos, finishing with recommendations. The most urgent items are made clear.
Is thermal imaging good for finding leaks?
It often helps show where to look. Water can travel under a covering before it shows inside, and temperature patterns can help follow it. We combine it with a visual inspection and moisture readings because the camera cannot confirm water on its own.
Airspace, weather and Walderton roofs
Walderton lies within about 5 miles of the sea. Thermal imaging works best after a sunny day, with a dry roof surface and little wind, so the date is chosen with the forecast in mind. If your survey includes the drone, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying.
If you live in an older home near The Parish Church of St Mary, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image. Historic houses like Uppark, about 4.3 miles north, show how far back building around Walderton goes. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from ground level, and a survey from above or with a thermal imager does not touch the roof itself.
Walderton is about 5 miles east of Havant, in West Sussex. In Walderton, as across West Sussex, every roof gets the same careful survey. Walderton is one of the places in West Sussex where we work. You can also see our page for Portsmouth.
We survey roofs across PO18 for thermal roof surveys. If you’re just outside Walderton, we cover Lordington (1 mile south-west), Racton (1 mile south-west), Funtington (2 miles south-east), Hambrook (2 miles south) and West Ashling (3 miles south-east). Larger places within reach include Bognor Regis (11 miles south-east), Chichester (6 miles south-east), Selsey (12 miles south), Emsworth (4 miles south-west), Portfield (6 miles south-east) and Yapton (13 miles south-east).
Local landmarks in Walderton
We work in homes and buildings around Stansted Park and the streets around them. The nearest railway station is Nutbourne station, about 3.1 miles south of the centre. Well-known places in the area include Havant War Memorial Hospital (5.3 miles south-west) and Warblington Castle (4.9 miles south-west). Not far away are Walderton Down and Kingley Vale National Nature Reserve.
What happens on the day
Before we start, let us know why you’ve booked: buying, a leak, storm damage, new work or just wanting to know where things stand. It helps us focus on what matters most to you. Most visits take roughly 1–2 hours at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. Older rural homes like those around Walderton can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. Each part is looked at from wherever it can be seen safely, and anything we cannot see is noted.
- We talk through the roof, any damp or leaks, and the weather expected on the day.
- We carry out a visual inspection of the roof from wherever it can safely be seen.
- We take thermal images of the roof to pick up temperature patterns.
- Areas that look unusual on the camera are checked with moisture readings where possible.
- The report sets out the images, what they suggest and what we recommend.
Before we arrive
- Keep pets in another room
- Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
- Jot down any questions you want answered

What affects the price in Walderton
All our prices include VAT. The things that change the price are:
- How many separate roofs there are, like extensions, dormers and garages
- How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
- The size of the roof
- Whether it is a home or a commercial building
There are three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all including VAT. What your roof costs depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.
What we need to know
What helps most when you contact us:
- Photos of the roof, taken safely from the ground or a window
- What’s prompted the survey
- Where water is showing inside, if it is
- The property’s address and postcode
A quick phone call is usually the easiest start: call 07833 053749 or drop us an email. You will have a price before anything is arranged.
Tips that help
Getting the most from a thermal roof survey starts before we arrive and carries on afterwards. Some tips:
- Keep outlets and gutters clear to stop water sitting
- Heat the home normally on the days before
- Use the report as a baseline for later checks
- Photograph damp patches with the date
If the images suggest moisture that cannot be confirmed, we’ll say what would help next, for example electronic leak detection or a roofer opening up a small section.
Keep outlets and gutters clear so water drains off the roof quickly. Less standing water means less chance of it getting under the covering.
What this survey can’t tell you
In fairness, a roof survey has limits:
- Clear results when the conditions on the day are poor
- An energy rating for the building
- Structural calculations, which need a structural engineer
If you are not sure which survey you need, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book. The full list of what we check.
