Wick Hill questions

Is Wick Hill within the area you cover?

Yes, Wick Hill is on our map. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one, with the route planned beforehand.

Do you cover Wick Hill?

Yes. Our area covers London and the South East, and Wick Hill is part of that. Just ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and tell us about the property, and we’ll talk through which survey suits.

How much does a thermal roof survey cost?

It is part of the Premium Survey, from £400. You also get an in-person consultation and a 12-month follow-up. For bigger commercial roofs, we quote on size.

What can thermal imaging tell me about my roof?

A thermal camera shows differences in surface temperature. Those patterns can point to trapped moisture, missing insulation or heat loss. Findings are checked with moisture readings.

When does the report arrive?

That depends on the survey you book: the Basic Survey report arrives within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey the same day. The report is emailed to you.

I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?

Yes. Shared roofs just need a little more planning. Let us know about it as you book and we’ll explain what’s needed.

Does someone need to be in?

Not always. If we only need the outside, we can agree that beforehand, but anything inside needs someone there to give access.

Thermal roof survey in Wick Hill: what you get

Thermal imaging works best in the right conditions. It helps to have a sunny day beforehand, a dry surface and calm air. Rain, wind and cloud can all make the patterns weaker. We will discuss the weather with you when booking, and our report notes the conditions and how they affected what we saw. If you’ve noticed possible trapped moisture under a flat roof covering and moisture around outlets and upstands, we can find out what’s behind it, whatever the roof.

Even in a smaller place like Wick Hill, there may be airfields or restrictions nearby, so every drone flight starts with a check of the Drone Safety Map. Open ground can mean stronger wind, which also affects whether a small drone can fly. Neighbours’ privacy is part of planning each flight, along with the airspace and the weather.

Where we can’t see part of the roof, the report says so. That way, it’s clear what was covered and what wasn’t.

Practical tips

Getting the most from a thermal roof survey starts before we arrive and carries on afterwards. Some tips:

  • Photograph damp patches with the date
  • Move stored items away from the loft hatch
  • Clear leaves from outlets and gutters each autumn
  • Don’t switch the heating off ahead of the visit

Once we have been, the thermal images, photos and readings go into a single report. We explain what each image may mean, alongside what we recommend. With a Premium Survey, you get the report the same day.

Check that loft insulation is laid evenly and hasn’t been pushed aside. Gaps often appear after work in the loft.

For landlords and managing agents

Letting agents can arrange access with tenants, at a time agreed ahead of time. We survey on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays, which helps when tenants work during the week.

For blocks of flats, a roof survey helps managing agents and residents’ management companies plan ahead. The report sets out what needs attention now and what can wait, which helps when budgeting.

What we can’t see

This is not a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:

  • Hidden layers that need to be opened up to check
  • Insulation values or heat loss calculations
  • Reliable images in rain, strong wind or on a wet roof surface

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll tell you before booking. The full list of what we check.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Commercial roofs
  • Insulated roof spaces
  • Flat roofs
  • Pitched roof slopes
  • Loft conversions
  • Ceilings below the roof

Checking the roof from the ground

After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Photograph them and note the date.

What you cannot do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and a fall can be serious. That’s where a survey comes in.

How it works

We do not take risks to get a closer look. Everything that can be seen safely is inspected, and anything we can’t see is noted in the report. Most visits take about 1–2 hours for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. For a survey in Wick Hill, we agree the time, the access and parking before the day. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays. Let us know about any garages, outbuildings or extensions you want included.

  1. First we discuss the roof, any damp and the forecast for the visit.
  2. The roof is inspected visually from safe positions.
  3. Thermal images are taken across the roof and, where there’s safe access, in the loft.
  4. We take moisture readings where the images suggest a problem.
  5. Each image is set beside a normal photo and explained in the report.

Before the survey

  • Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
  • Tell us where we can park nearby
  • Leave a clear route to the loft

Book a survey

If you have photos of the roof, send them over. Take them safely from ground level or a window, and please do not climb up for a closer look. To send them or to book, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

Airspace, weather and Wick Hill roofs

Listing and conservation areas can both shape what roof work is allowed on an older home. Your council and Historic England’s list will tell you where you stand, before anyone quotes for re-roofing. If the drone is used for your survey, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.

If you live in an older home near Holy Trinity Church, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that is where a view from above or with a thermal imager helps. Anyone responsible for a site like Warfield Church of England Primary School will know that a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit. If you look after a shop, office or commercial unit, for instance near The Lexicon, big, flat commercial roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help most.

Why get it checked now?

If a big flat roof may need replacing, knowing the wet areas first is useful. Thermal imaging, checked with moisture readings, gives a clearer picture before you spend. In an older home around Wick Hill, water from a roof defect can get into timber and plaster, which is far harder to put right than the roof fault itself.

Thermal imaging and drone inspection (where it applies) come with the Premium Survey, which starts from £400, with VAT included. We’ll tell you which package suits the questions you have.
