Booking your survey
You do not need to know any roofing terms. Just let us know:
- Your timetable, such as an exchange date
- The style of property, from a terrace to a block
- Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
- The address and postcode of the property
If you are buying, it helps to book soon after your offer is accepted, so you have the findings in time to act on them before you exchange. Otherwise, simply phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email whenever suits you.
Thermal roof survey in Wivelsfield
A thermal camera can help when the cause of damp isn’t obvious. Water can travel some distance under a roof covering before it shows inside, and temperature patterns can help us trace where it may have come from. We combine the images with a visual inspection and moisture readings, so no conclusion rests on one method alone. We survey ceilings below the roof, commercial roofs and flat roofs, and people most often book us about thin or uneven insulation in the roof and damp that repairs haven’t cured.
Somewhere as small as Wivelsfield, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what cannot be reached safely. Weather and airspace are checked ahead of the visit, and the journey is planned ahead of time. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.
Every survey ends with a written report, with photographs, emailed to you. It explains the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend.

What we do, step by step
We will ask a few questions first, about the roof’s history, any leaks and past repairs. Then the inspection itself takes roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. In a hamlet or village like Wivelsfield, a postcode does not always lead to the right gate, so a few directions are welcome. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.
- First we discuss the roof, any damp and the forecast for the visit.
- We look over the roof from wherever it’s safe.
- We take thermal images of the roof and of the loft where we can reach it.
- We take moisture readings where the images suggest a problem.
- The report pairs each thermal image with a photo and explains what it suggests.
Preparing for the visit
- Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
- Make sure the loft hatch can be reached
- If you are buying, let the agent know when we’re coming
Booking a survey
A quick phone call is usually the easiest start: call 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll ask a few questions about the roof. The price is agreed before a date is set.
Advice
Thermal roof surveys around Wivelsfield
If the drone is used for your survey, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. Ockenden Manor, about 3.6 miles north-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Wivelsfield. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.
Take an older house close to Ote Hall Chapel: older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help.

When to book a survey in Wivelsfield
Flat roofs that have leaked for a while can have wet insulation under the covering. Owners want to know how far it has spread before deciding what to do. A thermal survey, checked with moisture readings, can give a much clearer picture.
A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:
- Ceilings that feel colder in places
- Leaks that are hard to trace
- Patches of heat loss across the roof
- Gaps in loft insulation
Take a building like Wivelsfield Primary School: a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.
Before booking any roof surveyor
- Whether you get a written report with photos
- Whether the inside of the roof is included
- What insurance they carry
- What’s outside the scope of the survey
Should I look at the roof myself first?
A lot can be seen from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and falls from height are serious. That’s where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where applicable.

Questions from Wivelsfield
Is Wivelsfield within the area you cover?
Yes, Wivelsfield is covered. We survey roofs across London and the South East, from towns to the smallest villages. The journey is planned ahead, so it’s useful to know about access.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Wivelsfield?
For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.
Will you photograph what you find?
Yes, every report has them. Each finding is shown in a picture where possible, which makes the report easy to follow.
How soon will I get the report?
Report times are set by the package. Basic: within 48 hours. Standard: 24 to 48 hours. Premium: the same day. Mention any deadline when you book.
How much does a thermal roof survey cost?
It comes with our Premium Survey, which starts from £400. The Premium Survey also covers a full inspection, drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and a report on the same day.
Will you walk on the roof?
Only where it is safe to do so. We inspect everything that’s safely in view: from ground level, from windows, from inside the loft space, from the roof where it is safe and by drone where applicable. Anything we cannot see is noted in the report.
Can you inspect my roof with a drone?
Where it helps and it is safe, yes. Flights depend on the weather on the day and airspace rules. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID.
Roof by roof
Parapets, valleys and junctions
Parapet and valley gutters can overflow inside a building. Thermal images, checked with moisture readings, can help trace it.
Pitched slate and tile roofs
On pitched roofs, slates and tiles over a ventilated space can mask what’s happening underneath. We combine the images with an inspection from the loft where there is safe access.
