Woodley Thermal Roof Survey
Thermal imaging to find moisture and heat loss patterns in a roof in Woodley. We’ve completed more than 5,000 surveys across London and South East England.
- Possible trapped moisture under a flat roof covering
- Damp around chimneys and parapets
- Heat escaping through the roof
What affects the price in Woodley
Prices always include VAT. The things that change the price are:
- How many separate roofs there are, like extensions, dormers and garages
- Height and safe access
- Basic, Standard or Premium
- House, block, shop or office
Prices start from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on the size and height of the roof, how it can safely be seen and the package you choose.

- Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof
We survey roofs on any day of the week. To find a date that works for you, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and the days you’d prefer.
Thermal roof survey in Woodley
Our Premium Survey, from £400, brings together a full roof inspection and thermal imaging. You also get a drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and a report on the same day. There’s an in-person consultation as well, plus a follow-up 12 months later. You can call 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address and a note of what you’ve noticed. For big commercial roofs, we quote on size and access. Typical surveys look at damp patches with no obvious cause and areas of a flat roof that may hold water, across commercial roofs, flat roofs and pitched roof slopes.
In older houses around Woodley, loft insulation can be thin, patchy or missing in places. A thermal camera shows those cold and warm patches, and some of them can point to moisture. What it shows is surface temperature, not water itself, so findings are checked with moisture readings, while drone photos show the outside of the same roof. Results depend on conditions, so the timing of the visit matters.
The report is written in plain words, so it makes sense without any roofing background. Each point is backed by a photograph where possible, and recommendations are put by urgency where it matters.

Different roofs, different checks
GRP fibreglass roofs
Water under a GRP roof can reach the timber deck. Thermal imaging can suggest where that may be happening.
Parapets, valleys and junctions
Damp at junctions can be hard to see by eye. A careful visual inspection goes alongside the images.
Common roof problems in Woodley
On big commercial and residential flat roofs, thermal imaging helps owners plan. It can suggest which areas may be wet and which seem dry, so moisture readings can be targeted.
A survey can pick up problems such as:
- Ceilings that feel colder in places
- Areas losing heat at the eaves and junctions
- Wet areas near outlets and upstands
- Damp where roofs meet walls and chimneys
The streets around a church such as United Reformed Church are often among the oldest in a place, and if you own one of the older houses nearby, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.
Questions to ask before booking
- How they plan to inspect the roof safely
- How long they’ve been surveying roofs
- If they fly a drone, whether they hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
- How soon the report will arrive
Why get it checked now?
For buyers, a thermal survey adds detail that a visual inspection cannot give. Finding hidden moisture before exchange gives you facts to raise with the seller. Roof faults found early can be planned for, while one found after water comes through normally has to be dealt with in a hurry.
We offer three survey packages: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, with VAT included. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.

What happens on the day
The visit typically starts outside and finishes in the loft: first the slopes, edges and gutters from every safe viewpoint, then the roof space where it can be reached. All told, expect between one and two hours for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. For a visit in Woodley, we need access to the loft, any rooms with leaks or stains, and the outside of the building. Mention gates, side passages and anything at the back. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.
- We start by discussing the roof, any signs of damp and how the weather may affect the images.
- We carry out a visual inspection of the roof from wherever it can be seen safely.
- Thermal images are taken to show differences in surface temperature.
- Any patterns of interest are checked with moisture readings where we can reach them.
- The report sets out the images, what they suggest and what we recommend.
Preparing for the visit
- Unlock side gates and any roof access doors
- Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
- Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work

Advice
Drones, thermal imaging and Woodley roofs
Where the drone is part of the survey, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. Steep or complicated roofs are frequently hard to see from the ground, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help.
For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Rivermead Primary School, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof. If you look after a shop, office or commercial unit, for instance near The Oracle, large commercial roofs are often easiest to see by drone or thermal camera.

What this survey can’t tell you
Before you book, it is worth knowing what a survey will not do:
- Whether the deck or roof structure is strong enough
- An energy rating for the building
- Clear results when the conditions on the day are poor

Common questions in Woodley
Is Woodley in the area you cover?
We do. The survey and report are the same in Woodley as anywhere else, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.
Is my home in Woodley listed or in a conservation area?
Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.
Does the report include photos?
Yes, plenty. Each finding is shown in a picture where possible.
Do you use drones?
Where it helps and the rules allow, yes. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID and fly a drone under 250g, and every flight depends on the airspace and the weather.
Does thermal imaging detect leaks directly?
No, not on its own. It shows surface temperature, and wet areas can show up because they hold heat differently. We confirm what it suggests with moisture readings.
Which survey includes thermal imaging?
Our Premium Survey, from £400, includes thermal imaging. You also get an in-person consultation and a 12-month follow-up. Larger commercial roofs are quoted for their size.
How long does the survey take?
Time on site depends on the roof; most visits take about 1–2 hours at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. The written report follows by email.
