Flying and imaging in Worminghall

Thatch survives on some older buildings in Buckinghamshire’s villages. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from the ground, drone photos and thermal images add detail. Historic houses like Boarstall Tower, about 3.8 miles north, show how far back building in the area around Worminghall goes. If yours is one of the older homes, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area.

Anyone responsible for a site like Ickford School will know that a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it. Take an older house close to Church of St Peter and St Paul: older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.

Thermal roof survey in Worminghall: what you get

Flat roofs over extensions, garages, flats and commercial buildings are where thermal imaging often helps most. It can show patterns that point to trapped moisture under the membrane. Pitched roofs with slates or tiles are often harder to read, because of the air space beneath, so we also look from the loft where we can reach it safely. If you’ve noticed thin or uneven insulation in the roof and wet insulation beneath the membrane, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.

In a village or hamlet like Worminghall, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you can’t get from the ground. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first, and the journey is planned ahead of time. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.

The report is written in plain words, so you do not need to be a roofer to follow it. Each point is backed by a photo where possible, with the urgent items made clear.

Can I check my roof myself?

Keep a simple record: dates of leaks, photos from ground level and any work done on the roof. Share it with us when you book and it will help the survey.

Look up at the roof after a storm, from ground level: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Do not go up yourself.

How the survey changes by roof type

Parapets, valleys and junctions

Problems where roof slopes and walls meet are frequently hidden. We combine a close visual check with the thermal images.

Felt and asphalt flat roofs

Felt and asphalt sit tight to the layers below, which often helps the camera pick up differences. We confirm any patterns with moisture readings.

What this survey cannot tell you

In fairness, a roof survey has limits:

  • Insulation values or heat loss calculations
  • Structural calculations, which need a structural engineer
  • Hidden layers that need to be opened up to check

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll tell you. The full list of what we check.

Tips from our surveys

Nothing here needs a ladder. Our suggestions:

  • Talk to us about the weather when booking
  • Tell us where and when you’ve seen damp or stains
  • Photograph damp patches with the date
  • Clear leaves from outlets and gutters each autumn

If the images suggest moisture that can’t be confirmed, we will say what would help next, such as electronic leak detection or opening up a small area.

Consider a repeat survey after major work on the roof in suitable weather.

What a survey costs

Our packages start from £150, with VAT included. What you pay for your roof depends on:

  • Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
  • Roof area
  • How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
  • Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages

Our price is from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on how big and how high the roof is, how it can be seen safely and the package you choose.

What we need to know

When you call or email, these details help:

  • The property’s address and postcode
  • When you need the report by
  • Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
  • What made you get in touch

Once you know what you need, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form. From there it is a case of choosing a package, agreeing the price and fixing a day.

How the survey works

We check the roof from outside and, where it’s relevant and there’s safe access, from inside the roof space too. In the loft, the signs we look for are staining, damp, daylight and sagging. All in, the survey typically takes an hour or two at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. Cottages and farmhouses around Worminghall often have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints, and anything we can’t see is noted.

  1. First we discuss the roof, any damp and the forecast for the visit.
  2. We look over the roof from wherever it’s safe.
  3. Thermal images are taken across the roof and, where there is safe access, in the loft.
  4. Patterns that stand out are checked with moisture readings.
  5. Each image is set beside a normal photo and explained in the report.

Preparing for the visit

  • Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
  • Agree roof access with the managing agent if it is shared
  • Let us know about parking near the property

Worminghall: your questions answered

How do I find out if my home in Worminghall is listed?

You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it is in a conservation area. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.

Do you carry out roof surveys in Worminghall?

Yes, Worminghall is one of the places we work. The survey and report are the same in Worminghall as anywhere else, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.

Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?

No. We don’t carry out asbestos surveys or testing. We flag materials that could contain asbestos, such as cement sheets or soffits on pre-2000 buildings, and recommend a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before they’re disturbed.

Will you walk on the roof?

Not always. Some roofs are too steep or fragile to walk on safely. We use safe viewpoints, the loft space and a drone where applicable, and the report records anything we couldn’t see.

Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?

We hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance, for every survey we carry out.

How soon will I get the report?

Report times are set by the package. Basic is within 48 hours, Standard is 24–48 hours and Premium is the same day. Mention any deadline when you book.

I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?

Yes, once whoever controls the roof agrees access. We check the parts we are given access to, and the report makes that clear.
