Chimney surveys for Newchurch homes and businesses

How a chimney survey works in Newchurch

Many homes have chimneys that are no longer used. Even when it is not used, a stack has to stay weathertight. If it has been capped without ventilation, damp can build up inside it. We check how redundant stacks have been capped and look for damp in the chimney breasts. The report sets out what we found and what we recommend. We survey flaunching, shared and party-wall stacks and chimney pots and cowls, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are a stack that appears to lean and damp patches on chimney breasts.

Some older homes in villages like Newchurch are listed or in a conservation area. If yours is, re-roofing in different materials may need consent, so the council is the place to check. Knowing the roof’s condition helps you plan ahead with that in mind. Where a building is listed, matching the existing roof materials is often expected.

The report is yours to share with whoever needs it: a seller or estate agent, an insurer, a roofer, a builder or a managing agent.

What a chimney survey does not cover

To be straight with you, a roof survey has limits:

  • Gas safety checks, which need a Gas Safe registered engineer
  • What’s inside the brickwork or behind render, without opening up
  • Whether the flue is safe to use

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can call 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll tell you before you book. What a survey covers and does not.

Rented homes, blocks and businesses

Freeholders and residents’ companies use a roof report to plan and budget, putting the urgent items at the top.

We survey roofs for landlords and letting agents as well as householders. The report gives you a dated record of the chimney stack, with photographs, useful for planning maintenance.

Roofs, chimneys and gutters in Newchurch

The coast is about 4 miles or less from Newchurch, where sea air brings more salt and stronger wind than inland. Near the sea, metal fixings wear faster and loose pieces on a roof are more likely to lift, and driving rain gets into whatever gap is left. An older home may be listed, or stand in a conservation area. Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the council can say whether a street is in a conservation area. In either case, a change of roofing material may need consent.

Take an older house close to Church of St Peter and St Paul: its chimney, valleys and lead work are likely to be the parts that need attention first. If you let a flat or house near Ham Street station, the gap between tenancies is a good time to have the roof looked at.

Newchurch is about 7 miles west of Hythe, in Kent. Houses, flats, blocks and commercial buildings in Newchurch can all book chimney surveys, with a written report and photographs every time. Newchurch is one of the places in Kent we cover. You can also see our page for Canterbury.

Here we cover the TN29 postcode area for chimney surveys. If you need a chimney survey at a property on Links Close, Church View and Patchways or a nearby road, we can help. FAQs for Newchurch

Does being near the coast affect roofs in Newchurch?

Places near the sea get more wind and more salt in the air than inland, and both are hard on roofs. Salt is hard on nails, clips and metal flashings, while strong wind lifts anything already loose.

Will you come out to Newchurch?

Yes, Newchurch is covered. We work right across London and the South East, from towns to the smallest villages. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

Will I get photos?

Yes. Photos are part of every report, so you can see exactly what each finding refers to.

What does a roof survey cost?

Prices start from £150, including VAT. You will know the exact price before booking, and it depends on the roof’s size, access and the package you choose. To get a price, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

How many surveys have you done?

Over 5,000 surveys so far, over more than 20 years, with 98% customer satisfaction.

How can you see the top of the stack?

Each stack is viewed from the safest viewpoints: the ground, nearby windows and higher points, and the roof space. Our Premium Survey includes a drone inspection where applicable. We note anything we couldn’t see.

Will you fly a drone over my roof?

Yes, where it is applicable. Our sub-250g drone is flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID, and every flight depends on the airspace and the weather.

Should I look at the roof myself first?

Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Water spilling over the edge can point to a blockage or a sagging run.

Keep a simple record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Share it with us when you book and it will help the survey.

How we price chimney surveys

Prices always include VAT. The things that change the price are:

  • The shape of the roof and its details
  • Height and safe access
  • Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
  • Roof area

Bigger, taller and commercial roofs take more time to survey, so they’re priced to match. You’ll know the figure before booking.

Booking your survey

To price your survey accurately, we’ll ask about:

  • Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
  • Where the property is, with the postcode
  • How the loft is reached, if there is one
  • The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat

Booking is simple: just phone 07833 053749 or email us and give us a few details about the property and we will explain which survey suits. The price is agreed up front.

What happens on the day

Where it is relevant and can be reached safely, the roof space is checked as well as the outside. In the loft, the signs we look for are staining, damp, daylight and sagging, as far as the space allows. The whole visit normally takes about one to two hours at a house, as part of a look at the roof around the stack. Older roofs in small places like Newchurch can have low, tight loft spaces, so it is useful to know whether there is a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.

  1. We go through the chimneys, any damp and any work done on them.
  2. We check every stack from wherever it can be seen safely.
  3. Pots, cowls, flaunching, pointing and flashings are checked and photographed.
  4. Inside, the chimney breasts and the loft are checked for damp where there’s access.
  5. The report, with photos and recommendations, is emailed to you.
