When you need someone else

Every survey has limits, and we’d rather be clear about that before booking. Keep these in mind:

  • A structural engineer’s assessment
  • What’s inside the brickwork or behind render, without opening up
  • Whether the flue is safe to use

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will tell you before booking. The full list of what we check.

About our chimney survey in Walhampton

On terraced and semi-detached houses, a chimney stack is frequently shared with next door. We check everything that’s safely in view and what the owner gives us access to. Where a problem seems to involve a neighbour’s side, the report records it, so you can talk to them. Everything is written up with photos and what we recommend. If you’re worried about damp on a chimney breast inside and damaged chimney pots and cowls, a survey will tell you what’s going on.

Older buildings in small places like Walhampton may be listed or in a conservation area. That can affect what materials can be used when work is done, so check with the council before planning anything. A roof report helps you plan work with that in mind. Older materials such as clay tiles, slate and stone are often matched when work is done.

Report times depend on the survey you book: the Basic Survey within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey on the same day.

What we look for on each type of roof

Flaunching

We often find flaunching that has cracked or broken away. It is normally a modest repair when it is caught early.

Chimney breasts and the loft

In the loft, staining around the stack often shows where water is getting in. What we find is photographed and described.

Roofs, chimneys and gutters in Walhampton

The coast is about 1 mile or less from Walhampton, and places near the sea get more salt in the air and more wind than inland. Near the sea, metal fixings wear faster and loose pieces on a roof are more likely to lift. What can be done to an older roof may depend on listing or a conservation area. Your council and Historic England’s list will tell you where you stand.

Take a building like Lymington Church of England Infant School: large buildings have long gutter runs and big roofs that need checking like any other. For an older house near a landmark such as United Reform Church, corroded nails, tired lead and weathered chimney pointing are the things to watch on older roofs. For landlords with property near Lymington Town station, knowing the condition of the roof, chimneys and gutters helps you plan work rather than react to complaints.

Walhampton is about 1 mile east of Lymington, in Hampshire. Wherever you are in Walhampton, we can come and survey your property, on a weekday, Saturday or Sunday. Walhampton is one of the towns and villages in Hampshire we cover for chimney surveys. For surveys nearby, see our Southampton page.

All of SO41 is covered for chimney surveys. You’ll find streets such as Undershore Road and Walhampton Hill, all of which we cover. Close by, we survey roofs in Lymington (1 mile west), Portmore (1 mile north), Warborne (1 mile north), Pennington (1 mile south-west) and Pilley (2 miles north). Larger places within reach include Totton (11 miles north), Hedge End (15 miles north-east), Hythe (9 miles north-east), New Milton (6 miles west), Ringwood (12 miles north-west) and Locks Heath (14 miles north-east).

Around Walhampton

We work in homes and buildings around The Ferryman pub, Priestlands School and Southlands School and the streets around them. Walhampton has its own railway station: Lymington Town station. Other landmarks nearby include Lymington New Forest Hospital (0.8 miles north-west) and Yarmouth Castle (4 miles south). For a walk, there is Boldre Foreshore.

Landlord and commercial surveys in Walhampton

We also survey roofs for businesses and commercial landlords. Larger roofs take longer, and they’re priced for the size.

Why act early in Walhampton

If you’re thinking of removing or reducing a stack, it helps to know its condition first. Changes to stacks in conservation areas or on listed buildings may need consent, so check with them first. Where a roof is exposed, as many are in small places like Walhampton, driving rain gets into any weakness, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.

We offer three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all including VAT. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you’d like to know.

Your questions about chimney surveys in Walhampton

Is Walhampton within the area you cover?

Yes, we do. Our area covers London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. Longer journeys are simply planned ahead of time.

I let a flat near Lymington Town station. Can you check the roof?

Yes, landlords and agents book with us as well as owners. You can ring 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address and some details.

How long have you been surveying roofs?

Over 5,000 surveys so far, across 20+ years of surveying roofs, with 98% customer satisfaction.

Do I have to be there for the survey?

That depends on the survey. For inside areas and the roof space, someone has to give us access; we will agree the details when booking.

Do you use drones?

Yes, where applicable and safe. We fly a sub-250g drone and we’re a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). It is included in the Drone Roof Survey and, where applicable, the Premium Survey.

Does the weather affect the survey?

Some surveys depend on the weather more than others. Drone flights need calm, dry weather, and thermal imaging works best after a sunny day, with a dry roof and little wind. If the conditions aren’t right, we will talk to you about another date.

Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?

Our cover is professional indemnity plus public liability, and we can provide details if a managing agent needs them.

What you can safely check yourself

Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.

You can learn a lot from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Never climb onto the roof to look.

What happens on the day

Once we’ve finished looking, we write up our findings as a report with photographs, emailed to you. On timing, it normally takes an hour or two for most homes, a little longer where there are several stacks. Somewhere as small as Walhampton, access is frequently the only tricky part. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.

  1. We start by noting which stacks are in use, shared or causing concern.
  2. The flashings and the roof around each chimney are inspected.
  3. The top of each stack is checked for cracked flaunching and loose pots.
  4. We note the brickwork, pointing and any sign of leaning.
  5. You receive a written report setting out what needs attention first.

Before the survey

  • Leave side gates unlocked
  • Tell us about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of
  • Check pets are kept safely away
