Chimney survey in Wildmoor, Hampshire
A survey of chimney stacks, pots, flashings and flaunching for Wildmoor, from an experienced roof surveyor. Every survey comes with a written report and photographs.
- Damp on a chimney breast inside
- Worn or missing pointing
- Flaunching that has broken away
Chimney surveys for homes and businesses in Wildmoor
A chimney stands up above the roof, exposed to wind, rain and frost on every side. In time, flaunching cracks, mortar washes out and flashings come loose. Water then gets into the stack and can show as damp on a chimney breast or a stain in the loft. We record what we find with photographs and recommendations. We are frequently asked to look into flaunching that has broken away and signs that a stack is leaning, across brick chimney stacks, chimney breasts and flaunching.
Somewhere as small as Wildmoor, homes are often older cottages and farmhouses, with outbuildings and some newer houses. Roofs there can be clay tile, slate, stone or thatch, and chimney stacks are often old. Each needs checking in its own way, and thatch is a specialist material we report on as far as it can be seen. On older roofs, it is normally the chimneys and lead flashings that need work first.
How fast the report arrives depends on the package: the Basic Survey within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey on the same day.

Leave it or get it looked at?
If you are thinking of removing or reducing a stack, it helps to know its condition first. Changes to stacks in conservation areas or on listed buildings may need consent, so check with them first. Where a roof is exposed, as many are in small places like Wildmoor, driving rain gets into any weakness, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.
What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how it can be reached and seen safely. Prices start from £150, including VAT.

What affects the price in Wildmoor
Not every roof costs the same to survey, and it comes down to:
- The shape of the roof and its details
- Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
- The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
- Which survey package you book
Our price is from £150, including VAT. What you pay depends on how big and how high the roof is, how it can safely be seen and the package you choose.
Getting in touch
When you call or email, these details help:
- The kind of building and roof involved
- The reason for the survey, such as buying, a leak or storm damage
- Your timetable, such as an exchange date
- Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
A quick phone call is typically the easiest start: call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll ask a few questions about the roof. You will have a price before anything is arranged.
What a chimney survey looks like in Wildmoor
Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. Older houses in the South East often have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles. Whichever you have, the details that tend to fail before the covering itself get the closest look. About 3 miles west lies The Vyne, a reminder of how long the area around Wildmoor has been built on. Older homes in the wider area often have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material.
Take an older house close to Church of St. Leonard: its chimney, valleys and lead work are likely to be the parts that need attention first. If you run a business near Festival Place, a written record of the roof’s condition helps you plan maintenance rather than react to leaks. Landlords with a home close to Bramley (Hants) station may find that a dated record of the roof is useful when planning maintenance across a let.

Questions from Wildmoor
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Wildmoor?
Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.
Will you come out to Wildmoor?
Yes. Wildmoor is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We cover the whole of London and South East England. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.
Does the weather affect the survey?
A survey can usually go ahead in light rain. High wind or heavy rain can stop drone flights and make roof access unsafe, so if conditions are not right we’ll arrange another day with you.
How do I book a survey in Wildmoor?
It is easiest to phone 07833 053749 or send us an email. Give us the address and a few details about the roof. Surveys run on weekdays and at weekends.
Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?
No. Our report may flag materials that could contain asbestos, but only a specialist asbestos surveyor can confirm it. It may be present in buildings built or refurbished before 2000.
Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?
Yes, as long as access is agreed. Roofs over flats are frequently shared, so the building owner or managing agent needs to agree access. We inspect only the parts we are allowed to reach.
How fast do I get the report?
That depends on the survey you book: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day. The report is emailed to you.
How the survey changes by roof type
Flaunching
Flaunching takes the worst of the weather. We look for cracks, gaps around the pots and missing pieces.
Chimney breasts and the loft
Damp patches on chimney breasts often point to a problem above. We check them and at the stack in the loft where there is safe access.
What happens on the day
There is not much for you to do on the day. Show us any stains, drips or problem areas you know about, and we will get on with the inspection. The survey itself takes an hour or two for a house, and more on a big or complicated roof. For a village or hamlet like Wildmoor, the journey is planned beforehand: let us know about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. On the day, we inspect whatever is safely visible, inside and out.
- We start by noting which stacks are in use, shared or causing concern.
- We check the roof around each stack, including the flashings.
- The top of each stack is checked for cracked flaunching and loose pots.
- Any lean, spalling or worn pointing is recorded.
- The report explains the condition and which work is most urgent.
Before the survey
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
- Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
Booking a survey
If you have photos of the roof, send them over. Take them safely from ground level or a window; never climb up to get a better view. To send them or to book, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

Honest limits
A survey is a close look at the chimney stack, but it can’t do everything. Its limits include:
- Whether a stack needs rebuilding on structural grounds
- Hidden damage within the stack
- Parts of the stack that can’t be seen safely or belong to a neighbour we can’t access
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll tell you. What our survey covers.

What else we do in Wildmoor
Should I look at the roof myself first?
It is useful to keep a record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Send it with your enquiry.
During heavy rain, look at the gutters from the ground or a window. Overflowing water can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
