Drone Roof Survey in Ambrosden
We take a careful look at the roof at your property in Ambrosden, and put it all in a report with photographs.

Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Ambrosden
Some roofs are hard or unsafe to reach. Our drone roof survey gets a camera close to them without anyone climbing. You see slates, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters in detail. The photos go into a written report. It also suits roofs that would be damaged by someone walking on them. If we cannot fly, we tell you why. We survey valleys and parapet gutters, flat roofs on upper floors and fragile roofs, and common reasons people get in touch are chimney tops in poor condition and ponding and splits on a high flat roof.
Older cottages and houses around Ambrosden may have little insulation, and some have extensions with their own roofs. A thermal image can show where heat is escaping or where moisture may be trapped, and drone photos show the roof surfaces themselves. Findings are checked with moisture readings where needed. Results depend on the weather, so the visit is planned around the forecast.
The Standard Survey adds moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

What else we do in Ambrosden
What happens on the day
We will ask a few questions first, like when any problem began and what work has been done before. Then the inspection itself takes roughly 1–2 hours at a typical home, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. For a survey in Ambrosden, we agree the time, the access and parking before the day. Weekday and weekend visits are both possible. Tell us about any garages, outbuildings or extensions you want included.
- You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
- We arrange any permission that is needed before we fly.
- We assess the wind, the weather and the surroundings before take-off.
- The sub-250g drone takes close-up photos of the roof, kept in sight throughout.
- We email a written report with the photos and our recommendations.
Getting ready for the survey
- Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
- Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
- Keep pets inside or away from the areas we are looking at

Before and after the survey
Here are a few things we’d tell any owner, before and after a survey:
- Make sure the loft can be reached
- Let us know what you want to see
- Make sure there’s room outside for the drone to take off
- Give us the full address so we can check the airspace
We email the report to you, including the close-up photos taken by the drone. Each finding is explained in plain words, and recommendations are ranked by urgency where that helps.
Don’t block the vents at the eaves. Condensation in the loft can damage timbers and insulation. Check insulation doesn’t block the airflow.
Ambrosden questions
How do I find out if my home in Ambrosden is listed?
For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.
Do you cover smaller places like Ambrosden?
Yes, Ambrosden is covered. We work right across London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. Longer journeys are simply planned ahead of time.
Will you photograph next door’s garden?
We keep the camera on the roof we are surveying. We only survey what the owner has asked us to. If your roof is shared, it helps to tell your neighbours about the visit.
Will you photograph what you find?
Yes, every report has them. Each finding is shown in a picture where possible, so you can see what we mean.
Do you hold CAA registration for the drone?
Yes. We hold both a CAA Flyer ID and an Operator ID. The drone we use weighs under 250g, flown within the rules for the open category.
Does this replace a RICS home survey?
No. This is a survey of the roof only, so it’s not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. It can sit alongside a RICS survey if you want both.
Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?
No. Asbestos surveys and sampling are not something we do. Where a material might contain it, such as old cement sheets on a building from before 2000, the report flags it.
Checking the roof from the ground
A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. From ground level, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
It helps to keep a record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Share it with us when you book.
What a survey costs
Prices vary from roof to roof, for these reasons:
- The shape of the roof and its details
- The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
- Height and safe access
- Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
Simple, low roofs take less time to survey than tall or complicated ones, and the package matters as well. The price is always agreed first.
Helping us price your survey
You don’t need to know any roofing terms. Just let us know:
- When you need the report by
- Where water is showing inside, if it is
- Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof
- What’s prompted the survey
Surveys can be booked for weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays. To find a date that works for you, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form.
Leave it or get it looked at?
Close-up photos make conversations with roofers clearer. They show the location and extent of each defect. In a smaller place like Ambrosden, wherever a roof is exposed, a loose ridge or flashing doesn’t stay loose for long. Wind gets under it and lifts more.
Every price we give includes VAT, and the report isn’t charged as an extra. Our price is from £400, including VAT. Where your roof sits in the range depends on its size, height and access.
What you get with us

Flying and imaging in Ambrosden
Historic houses like Boarstall Tower, about 3.5 miles south, show how far back building in the area around Ambrosden goes. If your home is one of the older ones, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons.
For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Five Acres Primary School, big roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images show the most at once. The streets around a church such as Church of St Mary the Virgin are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if your house is among the older ones nearby, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that’s where a view from above or with a thermal imager helps. If you look after a shop, office or commercial unit, for instance near Bicester Village, a commercial roof can be photographed from above without anyone walking on it.
Ambrosden is about 3 miles south-east of Bicester, in Oxfordshire. Whether the building in Ambrosden is a house, a flat or a commercial unit, the roof can be surveyed on a weekday or at the weekend. Ambrosden is one of the places in Oxfordshire we cover. You can also see our page for Oxford.
