Drone roof surveys in Asheldham

Should I look at the roof myself first?

If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.

A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from ground level, and those are details a survey looks at closely.

How a drone roof survey works in Asheldham

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. The Premium Survey includes a drone inspection where applicable, along with structural analysis, a same-day report and an in-person consultation. There is a 12-month follow-up as well. We will tell you if a drone isn’t the right tool for your roof. You get a written report with the close-up photos from the flight. Common reasons to book are worn lead at chimneys and walls and blistered or cracked flat roof coverings, on large and complex roofs, flat roofs on upper floors and fragile roofs.

Somewhere as small as Asheldham, older roofs are frequently steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you cannot get from the ground. Weather and airspace are checked ahead of the visit. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.

You can share the report with anyone who needs it: a seller or estate agent, an insurer, a roofer, a builder or a managing agent, whichever applies.

Why it’s worth a survey now in Asheldham

On a tall building, problems are often found only when water comes in. By that stage the damage has spread inside. Looking from above picks up the early signs. In a small place like Asheldham, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. Packages run from Basic at £150 through Standard at £250 to Premium at £400, inc. VAT, and we’ll tell you which fits.

Different roofs, different checks

Ridges and hips

Loose ridge pieces can be lifted in a storm. Spotting them early stops them falling.

Flat roofs on tall buildings

Leaks often start at outlets, edges and around plant. They’re all captured in close-up, as far as the flight allows.

Before and after the survey

Getting the most from a drone roof survey starts before we arrive and carries on afterwards. Tips:

  • Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
  • Shut pets inside while we fly
  • Mention anything you’ve noticed on the roof
  • Be ready to move the date if the weather turns

There is a follow-up after 12 months with the Premium Survey. It helps you see how the roof has changed over the year.

Keep the roof space ventilated. Condensation in the loft can damage timbers and insulation. Keep insulation clear of the eaves.

How the survey works

We don’t take risks to get a closer look. Everything that can safely be seen is inspected, and anything we can’t see is noted in the report. The survey usually takes an hour or two at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Older rural homes like those around Asheldham can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints, and anything we cannot see is noted.

  1. First, we check the address for flight restrictions.
  2. If permission is needed, we ask for it ahead of the visit.
  3. On the day, we check the weather and the site before flying.
  4. The drone captures close-up photos of the coverings, chimneys, valleys and gutters.
  5. Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos and recommendations.

Preparing for the visit

  • Keep pets inside or away from the areas we’re looking at
  • Agree roof access with the managing agent if it’s shared
  • Point out any leaks or damp patches

Advice

Drone roof surveys around Asheldham

Asheldham lies within about 3 miles of the sea, and wind near the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons.

For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St James, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image. Around Asheldham, as everywhere, small roof faults are simplest to sort before they let water in.

Asheldham: your questions answered

How do I find out if my home in Asheldham is listed?

Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it is worth checking before planning any.

Do you cover smaller places like Asheldham?

Yes, Asheldham is on our map. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one.

What happens next?

The report comes by email, and you decide the next step: raise it with a seller, send it to an insurer, brief a roofer or share it with a managing agent.

Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?

No. We are experienced roof surveyors, and our survey covers the roof rather than the whole building. If you need a full building survey, you’ll need a RICS survey as well.

What does the report include?

It sets out what we found, why it matters and what we recommend, with photos throughout. It also says if any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely, so you know exactly what was covered.

Do you survey on Saturdays and Sundays?

We carry out surveys on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. To arrange a date, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email.

How long does a drone roof survey take?

On site, it typically takes roughly 1–2 hours on an ordinary house, or half a day or so for a commercial building. That includes the checks before the drone goes up.

Landlord and commercial surveys in Asheldham

Any of our surveys can be booked by landlords, agents and building managers in Asheldham. To discuss a property or a block, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email.

Where a roof is shared: access has to be agreed with whoever owns or manages the building. Tell us about it when booking and we’ll plan the visit with that in mind.
