About our drone roof survey in Dengie
A drone can see more than your roof, so we take care. The camera stays on your roof, not on neighbouring homes and gardens. If your roof is joined to a neighbour’s, it’s worth letting them know about the visit. We inspect only what the owner has asked us to. Each flight is kept short and stays focused on the roof we’re there to survey. Common reasons to book are flat roofs on upper floors that hold water and gaps where slates or tiles have gone, on large and complex roofs, flat roofs on upper floors and valleys and parapet gutters.
Some older homes in villages like Dengie are listed or in a conservation area. A look from the air or with a thermal camera does not touch the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.
What you get is a clear record of the roof on the day we saw it. It is useful right away, and a good reference for later.

Why get it checked now?
A drone survey disturbs nothing on the roof. Fragile slates and tiles stay as they are, so you see the roof exactly as it is. For older village homes like those around Dengie, the right replacement materials aren’t always easy to find quickly. Spotting a problem early leaves room to find them.
All our prices include VAT. Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. We confirm the price for the job before booking.
What you get with us
- CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID)
- Covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance
- 98% customer satisfaction
- More than 20 years surveying roofs
Should I look at the roof myself first?
Your own check is a good start, but it isn’t a survey. From ground level, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are frequently out of sight.
Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Overflowing water can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
What a survey costs
A few things affect what a survey costs:
- Roof area
- Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
- Commercial roofs and larger buildings
- Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
Prices quoted always include VAT, and the written report is part of the package. Prices start from £400, including VAT. Where your roof sits in the range depends on its size, height and access.
Helping us price your survey
A little information up front helps. It is useful to include:
- Where water is showing inside, if it is
- Dates you’re working to, such as exchange
- What’s prompted the survey
- Photos of the roof, taken safely from the ground or a window
We survey roofs seven days a week. To find a date that works for you, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email.
Practical tips
There’s plenty you can do without going near the roof. Here’s what helps most:
- Give us the full address so we can check the airspace
- Clear a spot on the drive or lawn
- Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too
- Book early if you are near an airport
The Premium Survey includes an in-person consultation to go through what the drone showed. It’s a chance to ask about anything in the report.
Have leaves and moss cleared from gutters, valleys and outlets, ideally once the leaves have fallen. On tall buildings, use a professional with the right access equipment. Many leaks start with a blocked outlet.
Dengie: your questions answered
Are there drone restrictions around Dengie?
It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.
How do I find out if my home in Dengie is listed?
You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it’s in a conservation area. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
Are you structural engineers?
No. We’re roof surveyors, not structural engineers, and it doesn’t include calculations. We will recommend an engineer if we see signs that call for one.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Not always. Safety comes first, and fragile or steep roofs can’t always be walked on. Safe viewpoints, the loft and a drone where applicable let us see the rest, and the report records anything we couldn’t see.
What happens next?
You’ll get the report by email, with photos and clear recommendations. With Standard there’s a follow-up consultation; with Premium, an in-person consultation.
Do you look in the roof space?
If the survey needs it and the roof space can be reached safely, yes. A clear path to the hatch helps, and if the loft cannot be reached safely, the report says so.
Does this replace a RICS home survey?
No. It’s a specialist roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 building survey. It focuses on the roof, so it sits alongside a building survey rather than replacing it.

What this survey can’t tell you
A survey is a proper look at the roof, but it cannot do everything. Its limits include:
- The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
- Photos in conditions too poor to fly
- A structural engineer’s report
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will tell you before booking. What a survey covers and does not.
Roof types and parts we check
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Chimney stacks
- Tall and steep roofs
- Large and complex roofs
- Flat roofs on upper floors
- Fragile roofs
What happens on the day
We look at the roof from outside and, where it is relevant and there’s safe access, from inside the loft space too. In the loft, the signs we look for are staining, damp, daylight and sagging. The whole visit normally takes about 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Somewhere as small as Dengie, access is often the only tricky part. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.
- You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
- We arrange any permission that is needed before we fly.
- On the day, we check the weather and the site before flying.
- We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
- You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.
Before we arrive
- Agree roof access with the managing agent if it is shared
- Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
- Note where any stains or damp appear
Booking a survey
If you are buying, it’s useful to book soon after your offer is accepted, so there’s time to use the report before exchange. For any other survey, just ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email when you’re ready.
Advice
Drone roof surveys around Dengie
Dengie lies within about 3 miles of the sea, and wind near the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain. What can be done to an older roof may depend on listing or a conservation area. The council is the place to check, along with Historic England’s list, ideally before any re-roofing is planned.
Take an older house close to Church of St James: tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement. Around Dengie, as everywhere, small roof faults are simplest to sort before they let water in.
