Drone roof surveys in Southminster

How it works

Safety comes first on every visit. Everything that can safely be seen is inspected, and anything we can’t see is noted in the report. Most visits take about one to two hours for most houses, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. Parking around Southminster is normally easier than in a town centre, but mention lanes, gates or long drives. Low roofs on bungalows can often be seen well from the ground, and the loft shows the rest, while taller roofs may need other vantage points or the drone where it applies.

  1. We start by checking the airspace and any restrictions at your address.
  2. If permission is needed, we ask for it ahead of the visit.
  3. We assess the wind, the weather and the surroundings before take-off.
  4. The drone captures close-up photos of the coverings, chimneys, valleys and gutters.
  5. We email a written report with the photographs and our recommendations.

Before the survey

  • For a flat or shared roof, check access with the building owner or managing agent
  • Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
  • Point out any leaks or damp patches

Arrange a survey

Most bookings start with a short call: phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll ask a few questions about the roof. You will have a price before anything is arranged.

Advice

How a drone roof survey works in Southminster

Our drone weighs under 250g, and we’re a CAA-registered drone operator, with a Flyer ID and an Operator ID. It stays within sight for the whole flight, and well below the 120-metre height limit. Every flight is planned around the roof, the site and the people nearby. Airspace and weather are checked before every flight. Safety comes first on every visit. We are often asked to look into hidden gutters full of leaves and worn lead at chimneys and walls, on large and complex roofs, valleys and parapet gutters and flat roofs on upper floors.

Around Southminster, older homes can have thin loft insulation and later additions with roofs of their own. A thermal image can show where heat is escaping or where moisture may be trapped, and drone photos show the roof surfaces themselves. Findings are checked with moisture readings where needed. Results depend on the weather, so the visit is planned around the forecast.

Every survey ends with a written report, with photos, sent by email. It explains the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend.

Tips that help

A survey works best with a little help from you, before and after. Some tips:

  • Give us the full address so we can check the airspace
  • Shut pets inside while we fly
  • Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too
  • Mention anything you’ve noticed on the roof

You get an in-person consultation with the Premium Survey to talk through the photos and findings. It’s a chance to ask about anything in the report.

Keep the loft space ventilated. Poor airflow lets condensation build up. Keep insulation clear of the eaves.

How the survey changes by roof type

Flat roofs on tall buildings

Flat roofs on tall buildings are often seen by nobody. From above, standing water, splits and tired upstands are clear.

Chimney stacks

From the air, a lean or a loose pot is easy to see. We record what we find with photos.

Can I check my roof myself?

During heavy rain, look at the gutters from the ground or a window. Overflowing water can point to a blockage or a sagging run.

Keep a simple record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Share it with us when booking, as it helps us focus the survey.

What we can’t see

We only report what can be seen safely on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:

  • The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
  • A structural engineer’s report
  • Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey

If you are not sure which survey you need, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will give you a straight answer. What a survey covers and does not.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Chimney stacks

Flying and imaging in Southminster

Southminster is within about 4 miles of the coast, where wind off the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or a downpour. Weatherboarded walls and clay tile roofs are typical of older Essex buildings, with post-war and more recent estates making up much of the newer housing. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these.

Take a building like Southminster Church of England Primary School: big roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images show the most at once. Take an older house close to Church of St Leonard: steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that is where a view by drone or thermal camera helps.

What affects the cost of drone roof surveys

We confirm the price for your roof before you book. This is what makes a difference:

  • The height of the building and how the roof can be seen safely
  • How big the roof is
  • Whether it’s a home or a commercial building
  • Any need for thermal images or a drone flight

Larger roofs, taller buildings and commercial roofs take longer, so they’re priced to match. You’ll know the figure before booking.

What we need to know

Here’s what helps us most when you get in touch:

  • When you need the report by
  • How the loft is reached, if there is one
  • What made you get in touch
  • Where the property is, with the postcode

Photos help, if you have them. Take them safely from the ground or a window. To get started, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email.

Common questions in Southminster

Will you come out to Southminster?

We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house.

Are there drone restrictions around Southminster?

Normally it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain.

Do you climb onto every roof?

Only when it is safe. Most of what we need can be seen from safe viewpoints, the loft and, where applicable, a drone, and the report notes anything we couldn’t see.

What will the report tell me?

It explains what we saw, what it means and what we’d suggest, with photos throughout. Anything we couldn’t see safely is noted too, so you know exactly what was covered.

Does someone need to be in?

If the survey includes the loft or the inside of the building, someone needs to let us in. We will talk about access when you book.

Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?

No. Asbestos surveys and sampling aren’t something we do. Where a material might contain it, such as old cement sheets on a building from before 2000, the report flags it, with a recommendation to have a specialist asbestos surveyor check before it’s disturbed.

How experienced are you?

We have completed more than 5,000 surveys, over more than 20 years, and 98% of clients are satisfied.
