Drone Roof Survey in Avon Castle
Close-up drone photographs of roofs that are hard to reach in Avon Castle, using drones and thermal imaging where it applies. Call or email for a price.
- Plant growth and moss on the roof
- Eroded pointing on a chimney stack
- Blocked valleys and parapet gutters
Why get it checked now?
Photographing a roof from the air doesn’t touch it. Fragile slates and tiles stay as they are, so you see the roof exactly as it is. Matching old materials, such as handmade tiles or stone slates, can take time to source. That is one more reason to find defects before they become urgent.
Prices quoted always include VAT, and the report isn’t charged as an extra. Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. Where your roof sits in the range depends on its size, height and access.

About our drone roof survey in Avon Castle
The weather decides whether a drone can fly. High wind or heavy rain rules out a flight, because the drone has to stay safely under control. If the day turns out unsuitable, we will talk about another date. The forecast is checked ahead of the visit and again on the day. Calm, dry conditions give the sharpest close-up photos. A short delay is better than a rushed flight. We survey flat roofs on upper floors, chimney stacks and tall and steep roofs, and people most often book us about ponding and splits on a high flat roof and lifted or split lead flashings.
Somewhere as small as Avon Castle, older roofs are frequently steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you can’t get from ground level. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.
The Standard Survey adds moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

How it works
When we arrive, we begin with a quick chat about the roof and anything that is worrying you. We then inspect everything that can be seen safely, from ground level, from windows, in the roof space and by drone where it applies. Most surveys take about one to two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Somewhere as small as Avon Castle, access is often the only tricky part. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.
- You give us the address and let us know about the roof.
- Any flight restriction at the address is checked, with permission requested if required.
- On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
- Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
- The findings, photos and recommendations reach you by email.
Getting ready for the survey
- Check the loft hatch can be reached
- If you’re buying, let the agent know when we’re coming
- If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building

Flying and imaging in Avon Castle
Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons.
With Avon Tyrrell House about 3.5 miles south-east, the area around Avon Castle has a long history. For older roofs nearby, a look from above or with a thermal imager is a hands-off way to check condition. If you look after a building like St Ives Primary & Nursery School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit. A roof leak in a hotel or guest house around Avon Castle means lost rooms as well as repairs.

When you need someone else
Before you book, it is worth knowing what a survey won’t do:
- A flight on a day when the weather is not safe
- The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
- Close-up photos of next door’s property

Prices for drone roof surveys in Avon Castle
Several things affect the price of a survey:
- Roof area
- Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
- Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
- Which survey package you book
Price depends partly on the package: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 or Premium from £400, all with VAT included. The roof’s size, height and access matter as well.
What to tell us when you get in touch
Here’s what helps us most when you get in touch:
- What made you get in touch
- The kind of building and roof involved
- Any deadline, like an exchange date
- How the loft is reached, if there is one
Our price is from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on the roof’s size, access and the package, and you can phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form to find out.
DIY checks: what’s safe
If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.
Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Water spilling over the edge can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
Avon Castle: your questions answered
Is my home in Avon Castle listed or in a conservation area?
Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. It matters most if you’re planning to re-roof in a different material.
Do you cover smaller places like Avon Castle?
Yes. Avon Castle is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work right across London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route as you book.
How much is a survey?
Our price is from £400, including VAT. You will know the exact price before booking. For a price, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form.
Does the drone show the underside of the roof?
No. It photographs the outside, not the inside. The roof space is checked separately, where there is safe access, as damp and daylight often show there first.
Which days do you carry out surveys?
We survey on any day from Monday to Sunday, during the day, which suits people who work during the week. Let us know your preferred days when you book.
How soon will I get the report?
Report times are set by the package. Basic: within 48 hours. Standard: 24 to 48 hours. Premium: the same day. Mention any deadline as you book.
Does the report include photographs?
Yes, every report has them. Pictures sit next to the findings they show, so you can see what we mean.
Tips that help
A few practical points come up again and again on our surveys. They apply to most roofs:
- Keep pets indoors during the flight
- Check there’s room outside for the drone to take off
- Move stored items away from the hatch
- Expect a little longer if permission is needed
The Premium Survey report comes the same day. It includes the drone photos where a flight was possible, alongside the other checks in the package.
Every so frequently, look in the roof space with a torch, keeping to boarded areas. A drone sees the outside, but the loft shows leaks and condensation from below. Photograph anything new.
