Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Bishopstone

Some roofs are hard or unsafe to reach. A drone takes close-up photos of those roofs from the air. It shows coverings, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters clearly, including slopes that can’t be seen from the street. The photos go into a written report. It also suits roofs that would be damaged by someone walking on them. Where a flight isn’t possible, we explain why. We’re often asked to look into cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots and coverings that have slipped high up on the roof, on large and complex roofs, flat roofs on upper floors and chimney stacks.

Places like Bishopstone can be near small airfields or other airspace restrictions, so the Drone Safety Map is checked before any flight. Open ground can mean stronger wind, which also affects whether a small drone can fly, while thermal imaging also works best with little wind. Each flight is planned with neighbours’ privacy in mind, as well as the airspace and the wind.

The report is written in plain words, so you do not need to be a roofer to follow it. Photos show what each point refers to.

Bishopstone: your questions answered

Is my home in Bishopstone listed or in a conservation area?

Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Bishopstone?

It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

How long have you been surveying roofs?

We have more than 20 years’ experience and have carried out more than 5,000 surveys across London and South East England.

Do I have to be there for the survey?

Someone needs to let us in if we are looking inside or in the loft. We’ll talk about access as you book.

Will I get photos?

Yes, every report has them. Pictures sit next to the findings they show, so you can see what we mean.

How fast do I get the report?

Basic reports arrive within 48 hours, Standard reports in 24–48 hours and Premium reports on the same day. All of them come by email, ready to forward.

What will the report tell me?

Written findings with photos, explaining the condition of the roof, any defects and our recommendations. The Standard Survey adds moisture detection and a structural check, and the Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable and structural analysis.

Leave it or get it looked at?

On a tall building, problems are often found only when water comes in. By then, timbers, ceilings and insulation may be wet. A drone survey finds them sooner. Homes in smaller places like Bishopstone can face more weather, so a loose ridge or verge soon lets rain in. Wind gets under it and lifts more.

Every price we give includes VAT, and the report is not charged as an extra. Our price is from £400, including VAT. Size, height and access decide where your roof falls.

The survey, step by step

The aim of the visit is simple: to look at the roof as closely as is safe and record what we find. Everything we note and photograph goes into the written report. It usually takes about 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. With a bit of garden around a house, as there often is around Bishopstone, the roof can be viewed from several angles. Let us know if any side is fenced off or hard to reach. Inside, the loft is looked at where it can be reached safely.

  1. We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
  2. Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
  3. Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are checked.
  4. We fly the sub-250g drone close to the roof and photograph each area.
  5. You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

What we’re asked to look at in Bishopstone

The top of a stack is the most exposed part of many roofs. From the ground, you rarely see cracked flaunching or loose pots. A drone gets close enough to see them in detail.

It is worth booking a survey if you’ve seen:

  • Moss and weeds taking hold up top
  • Slates or tiles shifted by high winds
  • Blocked valleys and parapet gutters
  • Ridge and hip pieces working loose

If you live in an older home near Church of St Mary the Virgin, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.

What to check before booking

  • Whether the loft is part of the inspection
  • What’s outside the scope of the survey
  • How long the report takes to arrive
  • Whether the price includes VAT

What a good roof survey covers

Flying and imaging in Bishopstone

Bishopstone lies within about 1 mile of the sea, where wind off the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or a downpour. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.

If you look after a building such as Reculver Church of England Primary School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

Bishopstone is about 2 miles east of Herne Bay, in Kent. We carry out drone roof surveys for homeowners, landlords and businesses in Bishopstone and the surrounding area. Our area takes in places right across Kent, large and small. For surveys nearby, see our Canterbury page.

When you need someone else

No survey can tell you everything, and we’d rather be clear about that before booking. Keep these in mind:

  • Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
  • What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
  • A flight on a day when the weather isn’t safe

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can call 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll tell you before you book. The full list of what we check.

How we price drone roof surveys

Prices always include VAT. The things that change the price are:

  • The use of thermal imaging or a drone
  • Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
  • House, block, shop or office
  • How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets

Price depends partly on the package: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 or Premium from £400, all inc. VAT. The roof’s size, height and access matter as well.

What we need to know

When you call or email, these details help:

  • Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof
  • The address and postcode of the property
  • Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
  • The kind of building and roof involved

A quick phone call is typically the easiest start: ring 07833 053749 or email us. You will have a price before anything is arranged.
