Drone roof surveys in Blackmore End

Drone roof survey in Blackmore End: what you get

Tall, steep, large or fragile roofs cannot always be inspected up close. A drone takes close-up photographs of those roofs from the air. It shows coverings, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters clearly. The photos go into a written report. It also suits roofs that would be damaged by someone walking on them. Where a flight is not possible, we explain why. Typical surveys look at ridge pieces that have lifted and flat roofs on upper floors that hold water, on flat roofs on upper floors, large and complex roofs and valleys and parapet gutters.

Some older homes in villages like Blackmore End are listed or in a conservation area. A look from above or with a thermal imager does not touch the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.

We keep jargon out of it: if work is needed, the report says so clearly, and where it can wait, that’s said too.

Tips from our surveys

Here are a few things we’d tell any owner, before and after a survey:

  • Check the loft can be reached
  • Be ready to move the date if the weather turns
  • Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
  • Keep a clear space in the garden or drive for take-off

Your report arrives by email, with close-up photographs from the flight. Each finding is explained in plain words, and recommendations are ranked by urgency where that helps.

Have high or hard-to-reach roofs surveyed every few years. Regular photos make changes easy to spot, so small faults are dealt with early.

How we price drone roof surveys

Several things affect the price of a survey:

  • How big the roof is
  • The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
  • The height of the building and how the roof can be seen safely
  • If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone

Prices quoted always include VAT, and the written report is part of the package. Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. Where your roof sits in the range depends on its size, height and access.

Getting in touch

What helps most when you contact us:

  • Access details, like a loft hatch or a shared roof
  • The address and postcode of the property
  • Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
  • Any marks or damp showing indoors

Our price is from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on the roof’s size, access and the package, and you can ring 07833 053749 or send us an email to find out.

What happens on the day

We photograph the roof as we go, so the report shows exactly what we saw. Close-ups come from the safest viewpoint available. A typical visit takes about 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Somewhere like Blackmore End needs a little journey planning: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. The roof is looked at from the ground, from windows, from the loft where there is safe access and from the roof where it is safe.

  1. First, we check the address for flight restrictions.
  2. Where a flight restriction zone or restricted area applies, we seek permission first.
  3. Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
  4. The sub-250g drone takes close-up photographs of the roof, kept in sight throughout.
  5. You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.

Before the survey

  • Find any records of previous roof work
  • Tell us where we can park nearby
  • Point out any leaks or damp patches

Blackmore End questions

Will you come out to Blackmore End?

Yes, Blackmore End is covered. We work right across London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned ahead of time.

Are there drone restrictions around Blackmore End?

Typically it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. The flight restriction zone around Luton Airport comes within about 1 mile of Blackmore End. We check the exact boundary for the address before flying, and if the roof falls inside it, we ask for permission first. Strong wind or a downpour also stops a small drone flying.

Is this a RICS survey?

No. Our survey is a roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey of the whole building. It focuses on the roof and can sit alongside a RICS survey.

How experienced are you?

We’ve completed more than 5,000 surveys, across 20+ years of surveying roofs, with 98% customer satisfaction.

What happens after the survey?

The report arrives by email, with photos and clear recommendations. With Standard there’s a follow-up consultation; with Premium, an in-person consultation, so you can talk the findings through.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

Visits run seven days a week in the daytime, which suits people who work during the week. Just say which days work for you.

How quickly is the report sent?

That depends on the survey you book: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day. The report is emailed to you.

Drone roof surveys in Blackmore End: local notes

Blackmore End is about 1 mile from the edge of the flight restriction zone around Luton Airport. The exact boundary is checked for each address before any flight, and a roof inside it needs permission before we fly. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles, and flat-roofed additions turn up almost everywhere. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.

Shaw's Corner lies about 1.6 miles east, so building around Blackmore End goes back a long way. Photos from the air and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it. For an older house near a landmark like St Peter, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement. If you look after a building like Kimpton Primary School, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.

Roof by roof

Steep slate and tile slopes

Steep roofs are risky to walk on. From the air, every course of slates or tiles can be seen.

Chimney stacks

Leaning stacks and loose pots are easier to judge from above. We record what we find with photos.

Checking the roof from the ground

It helps to keep a record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Share it with us when booking.

After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
