Brock Hill Drone Roof Survey

Wondering about the roof at a property in Brock Hill? We carry out drone roof surveys in Brock Hill and across Essex.

  • Hidden gutters full of leaves
  • Flat roofs on upper floors that hold water
  • Tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack

Signs you need a drone roof survey in Brock Hill

Hidden gutters and valleys are easy to overlook. Debris collects where nobody looks, until water overflows inside. A drone shows them clearly from above.

A survey can pick up problems such as:

  • Loose ridge and hip tiles
  • Tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack
  • Worn lead at chimneys and walls
  • Moss building up on slopes and in gutters

If you look after a building such as Beauchamps High School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

Choosing a roof surveyor

  • What happens after the report arrives
  • What exactly goes into their report
  • What the survey will not cover
  • Do they have a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID for drone work?

What’s in a roof survey

How a drone roof survey works in Brock Hill

Drones need reasonable weather. Strong wind or heavy rain rules out a flight, because the drone has to stay safely under control. If the weather turns, we will agree another day or inspect what we can by other means. The forecast is checked ahead of the visit and again on the day. Calm, dry conditions give the sharpest close-up photos. A short delay is better than a rushed flight. We survey tall and steep roofs, fragile roofs and chimney stacks, and people most often book us about ridge pieces that have lifted and chimney tops in poor condition.

Some older homes in villages like Brock Hill are listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, so it is a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.

The written findings come by email, ready to forward to whoever needs them. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and same day for Premium.

Brock Hill: your questions answered

Do you cover smaller places like Brock Hill?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We survey roofs across London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when booking.

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Brock Hill?

Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.

I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?

Yes. Shared roofs just need a little more planning, with whoever owns or manages the building. Mention it when you get in touch and we’ll plan the survey around it.

Does the report include photos?

Yes, every report has them. Pictures sit next to the findings they show, which makes the report easy to follow.

Do you hold CAA registration for the drone?

Yes, we are. The CAA has issued us a Flyer ID and an Operator ID, and the drone itself is under 250g, kept within sight on every flight.

Does your drone take thermal images?

Our drone takes close-up photographs of the roof. Thermal imaging is carried out separately, and it is part of the Premium Survey.

Does the weather affect a drone survey?

The flight waits for better weather. Wind and heavy rain are the two things that ground a small drone, so a new date is agreed with you, or look from other safe viewpoints if you’d rather.

What happens if roof problems are left?

A drone survey disturbs nothing on the roof. Nothing is cracked or dislodged by footsteps, so the survey doesn’t create new problems. Matching old materials, like handmade tiles or stone slates, can take time to source. That is one more reason to find defects before they become urgent.

The cost of a survey depends on the roof: its size, its height, how many sections it has and how it can be reached and seen safely. Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT.

What you get with us

How it works

Time on site depends on the size and shape of the roof, but as a rough guide the survey takes about one to two hours at most homes, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. If you have questions on the day, just ask. Older rural homes like those around Brock Hill can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints.

  1. We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
  2. A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
  3. Aerial photos are taken of your roof only, not the neighbours’.
  4. We also look inside the loft space where it’s safe.
  5. You get photos, findings and clear recommendations.

Before the survey

  • Leave side gates unlocked
  • Let us know about parking near the property
  • Clear the way to the loft hatch

Checking the roof from ground level

Look up at the roof after a storm, from ground level: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Do not go up yourself.

A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. From the ground, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight.

Honest limits

No survey can tell you everything, and it’s better to know them up front. Bear these in mind:

  • Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
  • A structural engineer’s report
  • The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)

If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will recommend the right survey. What a survey covers and does not.

What we look at

  • Fragile roofs
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Chimney stacks

Drone roof surveys in Brock Hill: local notes

Clay tiles and timber weatherboarding mark out many of the older buildings in Essex, alongside plenty of post-war and newer estates. Steep or complicated roofs are frequently hard to see from the ground, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help. Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times.

If you live in an older home near Church of St Margaret, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.
