Drone roof survey in Buckland, Hertfordshire
Independent drone roof surveys in Buckland. We have completed more than 5,000 surveys across London and the South East.

- Loose ridge and hip tiles
- Standing water on a flat roof
How the survey changes by roof type
Chimney stacks
From the air, a lean or a loose pot is easy to see. Each defect is photographed for the report.
Steep slate and tile slopes
On slate roofs, slipped slates often point to corroded nails. Close-up photos show how widespread it is.
Drone roof survey in Buckland: what you get
We fly a sub-250g drone, and we are a CAA-registered drone operator, with a Flyer ID and an Operator ID. We keep it in sight throughout, and within the 120-metre limit that applies to all drones in the open category. Every flight is planned around the roof, the site and the people nearby. Airspace and weather are checked before every flight. Safety comes first on every visit. Typical surveys look at ridge pieces that have lifted and gaps where slates or tiles have gone, on large and complex roofs, tall and steep roofs and valleys and parapet gutters.
Older buildings in small places like Buckland may be listed or in a conservation area. A look from the air or with a thermal camera doesn’t touch the roof, so it is a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.
The report is yours to share with whoever needs it: a seller or estate agent, an insurer, a roofer, a builder or a managing agent.

How we price drone roof surveys
All our prices include VAT. The things that change the price are:
- The roof’s overall size
- Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
- How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
- The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on how big and how high the roof is, access and which survey you book.
Helping us price your survey
There is no need for technical words. Just tell us:
- Any deadline, like an exchange date
- The property’s address and postcode
- Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
- Any photos you have, taken from ground level or a window
Getting a price is simple: just ring 07833 053749 or send us an email, let us know about the property and we’ll point you to the right survey. The price is agreed up front.
How it works
After the inspection, everything we found is written up in a report with photos, emailed to you. On timing, it typically takes an hour or two at a typical home, and longer for a large or complex roof. Somewhere as small as Buckland, access is frequently the only tricky part. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Weekday and weekend visits are available.
- First, we check the address for flight restrictions.
- Where a flight restriction zone or restricted area applies, we seek permission first.
- Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
- The drone captures close-up photos of the coverings, chimneys, valleys and gutters.
- Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos and recommendations.
Before we arrive
- Jot down any questions you want answered
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- For a flat or shared roof, check access with whoever owns or manages the building
How to book
If you are buying, it is useful to book soon after your offer is accepted, so you have the findings in time to act on them before you exchange. For any other survey, just phone 07833 053749 or email us when you are ready.
Advice
What you can safely check yourself
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and falls from height are serious. That part is for a survey, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.
Your own check is a good start, but it isn’t a survey. From the ground, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight.
Airspace, weather and Buckland roofs
Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles, with flat-roofed extensions, dormers and garages common everywhere. Many roofs like these can’t be judged properly from the pavement, and that’s where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place. If your home is older, it’s worth knowing whether it is listed or in a conservation area before planning roof work. Listed building consent covers changes to a listed building’s special interest, and an Article 4 direction can bring extra controls in a conservation area.
If your house is among the older ones in the streets near St Andrew's Church, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that’s where a view from above or with a thermal imager helps. Take a building like Freman College: big roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images show the most at once.

Your questions about drone roof surveys in Buckland
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Buckland?
You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it is in a conservation area. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
Can you fly a drone over a roof in Buckland?
The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.
How much is a survey?
Prices start from £400, including VAT. Our three packages are Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, including VAT.
Do you test for asbestos?
No. We can flag materials that might contain asbestos, but only a specialist asbestos surveyor can confirm it. Buildings built or refurbished before 2000 may contain it.
Will you check the loft?
Normally, if there is one and it can be reached safely. From inside, the underside of the roof often shows damp, staining or daylight that cannot be seen from outside.
Can you give me structural calculations?
No. We point out what can be seen, like sagging or deflection, but we are not structural engineers and do not carry out calculations. Where an engineer is needed, we say so in the report.
Can you survey at the weekend?
Surveys can be booked for any day of the week: Monday to Friday, Saturdays and Sundays. Tell us which days suit you when you book.
Why it’s worth a survey now in Buckland
From ground level, you’re guessing about most of a tall roof. A drone replaces that guesswork with clear photographs, slope by slope. It is far easier to plan work when you can see the problem. In a small place like Buckland, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.
Prices start from £400, including VAT. Basic starts from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, VAT included, and we will tell you which fits.

Tips from our surveys
A survey works best with a little help from you, before and after. Some tips:
- Expect us to rearrange if it is too windy or wet
- Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
- Allow time for permission if you’re in a flight restriction zone
- Mention anything you’ve noticed on the roof
We email the report to you, with close-up photos from the flight. Each finding is explained in plain words, and recommendations are ranked by urgency where that helps.
Keep gutters, valleys and outlets clear, ideally once the leaves have fallen. On high roofs, leave clearing to a professional. Blocked hidden gutters cause many leaks.
