Drone roof survey in Bucknell: what you get

We carry out drone roof surveys in Bucknell and across London and South East England, where the airspace and the weather allow. Flights take place on weekdays and at weekends. Every address is checked for airspace restrictions first. You get a written report with close-up photos and recommendations. To check whether your roof suits a drone survey, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email. If you are worried about chimney tops in poor condition and storm damage on steep or tall roofs, we can find out what’s behind it.

Older buildings in small places like Bucknell may be listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care, before anyone decides what work it needs. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.

The report works through the roof section by section, from the main slopes down to the gutters and outlets, with a note and a photo for each point. It records what’s sound as well as what isn’t.

How the survey works

Where it’s relevant and can be reached safely, the loft space is checked as well as the outside. Inside, we look for staining, damp, gaps and signs of movement, as far as the space allows. The whole visit normally takes about 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Cottages and farmhouses around Bucknell frequently have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints.

  1. We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
  2. A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
  3. The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
  4. We also look inside the roof space where it is safe.
  5. The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Find any records of previous roof work
  • Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
  • If it is not your property yet, arrange access through the agent

What this survey cannot tell you

A survey is a proper look at the roof, but it cannot do everything. Its limits include:

  • Close-up photos of next door’s property
  • What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
  • Photos in conditions too poor to fly

If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or email us and we will point you to the right survey before you book. What our survey covers.

What we check

  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Fragile roofs
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Chimney stacks
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters

What a survey costs

Not every roof costs the same to survey, and it comes down to:

  • Basic, Standard or Premium
  • The height of the building and how the roof can be seen safely
  • The use of thermal imaging or a drone
  • Commercial roofs and larger buildings

Bigger, taller and commercial roofs take more time to survey, so they’re priced to match. The price is confirmed before you book.

What we need to know

You don’t need to know any roofing terms. It’s enough to tell us:

  • What made you get in touch
  • Dates you are working to, such as exchange
  • The kind of building and roof involved
  • The address and postcode of the property

Every survey is priced before it’s booked, so you know the cost up front. Our price is from £400, including VAT. To book, call 07833 053749 or send us an email.

Bucknell questions

Is my home in Bucknell listed or in a conservation area?

Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.

Is drone flying allowed in Bucknell?

Typically it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

What’s the best way to book?

To book, phone 07833 053749 or email us and tell us the address and what you need to know. We will confirm the price and find a day that suits.

How soon will I get the report?

Report times are set by the package. Basic: within 48 hours. Standard: 24 to 48 hours. Premium: the same day. Mention any deadline when booking.

Do you carry out surveys on Saturdays and Sundays?

We carry out surveys on any day of the week. To find a day that suits you, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

How long does the survey take?

It normally takes an hour or two at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. The report follows by email.

Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?

Yes, as long as access is agreed. The roof of a block or converted house is often shared, so the building owner or managing agent needs to agree access. We inspect only the parts we are allowed to reach.

Do you need a drone roof survey in Bucknell?

Height and steep pitches make close inspection risky. Three-storey houses, blocks of flats and tall commercial buildings are common examples. A drone gets close-up views from a safe position on the ground.

A survey can pick up problems such as:

  • Lead work pulling away at abutments
  • Loose ridge and hip tiles
  • Blistered or cracked flat roof coverings
  • Vegetation in valleys and gutters

Take a building like Gagle Brook Primary School: a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

Before booking any roof surveyor

  • What insurance they carry
  • Will they check the loft as well as the outside?
  • Will the report include photos?
  • Which limits apply to the survey

Tips that help

You don’t need to be a roofer to help. What helps most:

  • Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
  • Book early if you’re near an airport
  • Shut pets inside while we fly
  • Give us the full address so we can check the airspace

There’s a follow-up after 12 months with the Premium Survey. It helps you see how the roof has changed over the year.

Every so often, look in the roof space with a torch, keeping to boarded areas. A drone sees the outside, but the loft shows leaks and condensation from below. Take photos of any changes.

Why act early in Bucknell

With drone photos, everyone can see the same thing. They show the location and extent of each defect. Around Bucknell, older homes frequently have old roof timbers, where water from a failed roof can cause rot if it’s left.

There are three survey packages: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, with VAT included. What your roof costs depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.

What you get with us

Flying and imaging in Bucknell

West Oxfordshire’s older buildings frequently carry Cotswold stone slates, and a few villages in the county keep their thatch. Older houses in the South East often have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles. Many roofs like these can’t be judged properly from the pavement, and that is where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.

If you live in an older home near Church of St Peter, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that’s where a view from above or with a thermal imager helps. Shop and office owners around Bicester Village may find that thermal images can show trapped moisture across a wide commercial roof.
