How a drone roof survey works in Cassington
Tall, steep, large or fragile roofs cannot always be inspected up close. A drone takes close-up photos of those roofs from the air. You see slates, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters in detail, including slopes that can’t be seen from the street. The photos go into a written report. It also suits roofs that would be damaged by someone walking on them. If we cannot fly, we tell you why. Common reasons to book are vegetation in valleys and gutters and lead work pulling away at abutments, on large and complex roofs, flat roofs on upper floors and fragile roofs.
Somewhere as small as Cassington, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what cannot be reached safely. Weather and airspace are checked before the visit, and the journey is planned in advance. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.
Every survey ends with a written report, with photos, sent by email. It sets out the condition of the roof, any defects and our written recommendations.

DIY checks: what’s safe
Look up at the roof after a storm, from the ground: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.
Prices for drone roof surveys in Cassington
When we price a survey, we consider:
- The use of thermal imaging or a drone
- Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
- Commercial roofs and larger buildings
- The roof’s overall size
Simple, low roofs take less time to survey than tall or complicated ones, and the package matters as well. We’ll give you the figure before anything is booked.
What to let us know when you contact us
The more you tell us, the easier it is to price the survey. When you contact us, let us know:
- Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
- Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof
- Any deadline, such as an exchange date
- The style of property, from a terrace to a block
Booking is simple: just call 07833 053749 or send us an email, tell us about the property and we will suggest the right survey. We confirm the price before anything is booked.
Tips from our surveys
There is plenty you can do without going near the roof. What helps most:
- Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
- Tell us the exact address when booking
- Allow time for permission if you are in a flight restriction zone
- Let us know what you want to see
The report gives any roofer you ask to quote a clear brief. They’ll see exactly where each defect is, so their quotes cover the same ground.
Check the loft now and then, with care and a good torch. The underside often shows problems before the outside does. Take photos of any changes.
What a drone roof survey does not cover
It’s useful to know what a survey won’t do before you book:
- Close-up photos of next door’s property
- Whether the roof structure meets design loads
- Flights in strong wind or a downpour
If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or email us and we will suggest the right survey before you book. The full list of what we check.

What we look for on each type of roof
Valleys and parapet gutters
Hidden gutters and valleys sit out of sight. From above, we can see the linings, the joints and any debris.
Ridges and hips
Wind lifts loose ridge and hip tiles. Finding them early keeps them from coming down.
What we do, step by step
Every roof is different, but as a rough guide the survey takes about 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. If you have questions on the day, just ask. Older rural homes like those around Cassington can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. Each part is looked at from wherever it can be seen safely, and anything we can’t see is noted.
- We confirm whether a drone suits your roof.
- A date is fixed, with a fallback in case the weather turns.
- Aerial photos are taken of your roof only, not the neighbours’.
- Where there’s safe access, we check the loft as well.
- The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- Show us where any leaks or stains appear
- If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
- If you are buying, check with the agent that we can get in

Flying and imaging in Cassington
Cotswold stone slates are found on older buildings in west Oxfordshire, and thatch survives in some of the county’s villages. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from ground level, drone photos and thermal images add detail. Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times.
If you look after a building such as St Peter's Church of England Primary School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it. Blenheim Palace lies about 3.4 miles north, so building around Cassington goes back a long way. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from the ground, and a survey from above or with a thermal imager does not touch the roof itself. The streets around a church such as Church of St Peter are often among the oldest in a place, and if your house is among the older ones nearby, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that’s where a view from above or with a thermal imager helps.

Cassington questions
Are there drone restrictions around Cassington?
The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.
Will you come out to Cassington?
Yes, Cassington is covered. We cover the whole of London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned ahead of time.
How quickly is the report sent?
That depends on the survey you book: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day. The report is emailed to you.
I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?
Yes. A shared roof needs access agreed first. Mention it when you contact us and we will plan the survey around it.
Will you walk on the roof?
Only when it’s safe. Some roofs are too steep or fragile to walk on safely. Safe viewpoints, the loft and a drone where applicable let us see the rest, and the report records anything we couldn’t see.
How experienced are you?
Over 5,000 surveys so far, over more than 20 years, with 98% customer satisfaction.
How long will you be at the property?
Time on site depends on the roof; most visits take roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. The report is sent afterwards by email.
