Your questions about drone roof surveys in Church End

Is Church End within the area you cover?

Yes, Church End is on our map. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one, with the route planned beforehand.

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Church End?

Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. It’s worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.

How much is a survey?

Our price is from £400, including VAT. You will know the price for your roof before booking. For a price, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

Do you hold CAA registration for the drone?

Yes. Our registration covers a Flyer ID and an Operator ID. We use a sub-250g drone, flown within the rules for the open category.

Will you walk on the roof?

Only when it’s safe. Safe viewpoints, the loft space and a drone where it applies cover most of what’s needed, and anything out of sight is recorded in the report.

Will the drone film my neighbours?

We point the camera at your roof only. Next door’s windows and gardens are kept out of shot as far as possible. A quick word with the neighbours is a good idea.

Is a drone roof survey a thermal survey?

No, the drone survey is photographic. For thermal imaging, look at the Premium Survey or our thermal roof survey.

How a drone roof survey works in Church End

From the air, the outer surfaces are clear, but it cannot see inside. Where there is safe access, we look in the loft space too, since that’s where leaks and condensation often show first. Together, the two give a fuller picture. Your report shows the drone photos alongside what we saw in the loft. Where the loft can’t be reached safely, we note it. We survey flat roofs on upper floors, fragile roofs and chimney stacks, and common reasons people get in touch are eroded pointing on a chimney stack and hidden gutters full of leaves.

In a small place like Church End, open ground can mean strong wind. A small drone cannot fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.

We write the report in plain English, so it makes sense without any roofing background. Photos show what each point refers to, and recommendations are put by urgency where it matters.

Tips from our surveys

A survey works best with a little help from you, before and after. Tips:

  • Move stored items away from the hatch
  • Give us the full address so we can check the airspace
  • Allow for a change of day in poor weather
  • Let us know what you want to see

Premium also includes a 12-month follow-up. It helps you see how the roof has changed over the year.

Don’t block the vents at the eaves. Poor airflow lets condensation build up, and it is something only an inside check will show. Check insulation doesn’t block the airflow.

How we price drone roof surveys

Several things affect the price of a survey:

  • If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
  • Commercial roofs and larger buildings
  • How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
  • Basic, Standard or Premium

Thermal imaging and drone inspection (where it applies) come with the Premium Survey, which starts from £400, including VAT. We can help you choose the package that fits what you need to know.

What we need to know

A little information up front helps. It is useful to include:

  • Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
  • The style of property, from a terrace to a block
  • Your timetable, such as an exchange date
  • The reason for the survey, such as buying, a leak or storm damage

Every survey is priced before it’s booked, so you know where you stand. Prices start from £400, including VAT. To book, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

What we look for on each type of roof

Ridges and hips

Loose ridge pieces can be lifted in a storm. Spotting them early stops them falling.

Flat roofs on tall buildings

Leaks often start at outlets, edges and around plant. They’re all captured in close-up, as far as the flight allows.

How the survey works

The visit has one job: to see as much of the roof as can be seen safely and record it clearly. Everything we note and photograph goes into the written report. It normally takes about 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Cottages and farmhouses around Church End frequently have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. Each part is looked at from wherever it can safely be seen.

  1. First comes the address, plus a note of what worries you about the roof.
  2. We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
  3. Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are looked at.
  4. We fly the sub-250g drone close to the roof and photograph each area.
  5. The findings, photos and recommendations reach you by email.

Getting ready for the survey

  • If it isn’t your property yet, arrange access through the agent
  • Point out any leaks or damp patches
  • Agree roof access with the managing agent if it’s shared

Book a survey

Buyers should book once an offer has been accepted, so there’s time to use the report before exchange. Otherwise, simply ring 07833 053749 or send us an email whenever suits you.

Advice

Honest limits

A survey is a close look at the roof, but it can’t do everything. Its limits include:

  • Roofs and gardens beyond the one we’re surveying
  • Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
  • A flight on a day when the weather isn’t safe

If you’re not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book. The full list of what we check.

Roofs we survey in Church End

  • Large and complex roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Fragile roofs
  • Chimney stacks
  • Tall and steep roofs

Do you need a drone roof survey in Church End?

After storms, owners want to know what has moved. It is hard to tell from below what has shifted. Close-up photos make it clear what has been disturbed.

These are some of the problems a survey can pick up:

  • Plant growth and moss on the roof
  • Ridge and hip pieces working loose
  • Blocked valleys and parapet gutters
  • Cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below

If you live in an older home near Church of St. Leonard, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.

Questions to ask before booking

  • Are they insured for the work?
  • Which viewpoints they use to see the roof
  • What happens after the report arrives
  • How long the report takes to arrive

What’s in a roof survey

Drones, thermal imaging and Church End roofs

We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times. With The Vyne about 2.5 miles west, Church End sits in an area with a long building history. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material.

Anyone responsible for a site like The Loddon School will know that big roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images show the most at once. Shop and office owners around The Malls may find that a commercial roof can be photographed from above without anyone walking on it.

Church End is about 4 miles north-east of Basingstoke, in Hampshire. Church End is one of many places we visit across Hampshire, for houses, flats and commercial buildings. Our area takes in places right across Hampshire, large and small. For surveys nearby, see our Reading page.
