Drone roof survey in Bramley

A drone shows the outside of a roof very well, but it cannot see under the coverings or into the loft. Where there is safe access, we look in the roof space too, because the underside tells its own story. Together, the two give a fuller picture. Your report shows the drone photos alongside what we saw in the loft. Where the loft can’t be reached safely, we note it. Common reasons to book are moss building up on slopes and in gutters and flat roofs on upper floors that hold water, on valleys and parapet gutters, fragile roofs and flat roofs on upper floors.

Around Bramley, plenty of roofs are low enough to see partly from the garden or the street. The parts you cannot see, like rear slopes, valleys and chimney tops, are where a drone or thermal camera adds detail. The forecast decides the day. Close-up images often show wear on ridges, verges and flashings that can’t be judged properly from the ground.

Where we cannot see part of the roof, the report says so. That way, it is clear what was covered and what wasn’t, and what we’d suggest next.

Before and after the survey

These tips come from what we see on roofs every week:

  • Tell next door if the drone will be near their property
  • Let us know what you want to see
  • Expect a little longer if permission is needed
  • Give us the full address so we can check the airspace

If you need work done, roofers can work from the photos. They’ll see exactly where each defect is, so their quotes cover the same ground.

Keep the loft space ventilated. Poor airflow lets condensation build up. Make sure insulation doesn’t block the airflow.

FAQs for Bramley

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Bramley?

We cannot confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.

Is drone flying allowed in Bramley?

Normally it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

How long is the visit?

Expect it to take about 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. You will then get the report by email, on the timescale of your package.

Is this an asbestos survey?

No. Asbestos surveys and testing aren’t part of what we do. If we see materials that could contain asbestos, like cement roof sheets or soffits on buildings from before 2000, we flag them and suggest a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before any work.

Do you need to get into the loft?

If there’s a loft and safe access to it, yes. The loft space can show things the outside cannot, like damp timbers, staining or daylight.

What if it rains on the day?

A survey can normally go ahead in light rain. High wind or heavy rain can stop drone flights and make roof access unsafe, so we’ll agree a new date if the weather isn’t suitable.

How long have you been surveying roofs?

Over 5,000 surveys so far, across 20+ years of surveying roofs.

How we price drone roof surveys

All our prices include VAT. What changes the price is:

  • House, block, shop or office
  • Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
  • Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
  • Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed

The cost of a survey depends on the roof: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how it can be reached and seen safely. Prices start from £400, including VAT.

What we need to know

There’s no need for technical words. Just tell us:

  • What kind of property and roof it is
  • Your timetable, like an exchange date
  • Any marks or damp showing indoors
  • Photos of the roof, taken safely from the ground or a window

Not sure which survey you need? The easiest way is to ring 07833 053749 or email us and describe the roof and what’s worrying you. We will talk you through the options and what they cost.

Can I check my roof myself?

Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Water spilling over the edge can point to a blockage or a sagging run.

What you can’t do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and a fall can be serious. That is where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where applicable.

What we do, step by step

We work from the outside in: first the slopes, edges and gutters from every safe viewpoint, then the roof space where it can be reached. All told, expect between one and two hours at most homes, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. With a bit of garden around a house, as there frequently is around Bramley, the roof can be viewed from several angles. Mention any side of the property we cannot get to. The loft, where there’s safe access, completes the picture.

  1. First comes the address, plus a note of what worries you about the roof.
  2. Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
  3. Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are checked.
  4. The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
  5. You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

How to prepare

  • Check we can get to the back of the property
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street
  • Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work

Getting a price

Our price is from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on the roof’s size, access and the package, and you can call 07833 053749 or email us to find out.

Signs you need a drone roof survey in Bramley

Height and steep pitches make close inspection risky. Three-storey houses, blocks of flats and tall commercial buildings are common examples. We fly from the ground and bring the camera close to the roof.

Most people get in touch after spotting something like this:

  • Debris building up in hidden gutters
  • Moss and weeds taking hold up top
  • Ridge and hip pieces working loose
  • Gaps where slates or tiles have gone

Take an older house close to Church of St James: thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.

Choosing a roof surveyor

  • Which viewpoints they use to see the roof
  • Will they check the loft as well as the outside?
  • Their drone registration, if they fly one
  • What happens after the report arrives

What to expect from a roof survey

Drones, thermal imaging and Bramley roofs

Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from ground level, drone photos and thermal images add detail. Historic houses like The Vyne, about 1.9 miles south-west, show how far back building in the area around Bramley goes. Older homes in the wider area frequently have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.

Anyone responsible for a site like Bramley Church of England Primary School will know that thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.
