Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Compton
The weather decides whether a drone can fly. We don’t fly in high wind or heavy rain, because control and safety come first. If the weather turns, we will agree another day. The forecast is checked ahead of the visit and again on the day. Calm, dry conditions give the sharpest close-up photos. A short delay is better than a rushed flight. We survey fragile roofs, tall and steep roofs and chimney stacks, and people most frequently book us about loose ridge and hip tiles and lead work pulling away at abutments.
In a village or hamlet like Compton, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you cannot get from the ground. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.
You can share the report with anyone who needs it: your solicitor, the seller, your insurer, a roofer or the building’s managing agent.

What a survey costs
Prices always include VAT. What changes the price is:
- Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
- How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
- The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium
- Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
There are three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, with VAT included. What your roof costs depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.
Getting in touch
There is no need for technical words. Just let us know:
- What’s prompted the survey
- Dates you’re working to, such as exchange
- Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
- Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof
If you’re buying, it helps to book soon after your offer is accepted, so you have the findings in time to act on them before you exchange. For any other survey, just ring 07833 053749 or email us when you’re ready.
How it works
We will ask a few questions first, such as when any problem began and what work has been done before. Then the inspection itself takes an hour or two on an ordinary house, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. Somewhere as small as Compton, access is often the only tricky part. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.
- First, we check the address for flight restrictions.
- Where a flight restriction zone or restricted area applies, we seek permission first.
- We assess the wind, the weather and the surroundings before take-off.
- The sub-250g drone takes close-up photos of the roof, kept in sight throughout.
- You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.
How to prepare
- Show us where any leaks or stains appear
- Make sure pets are kept safely away
- Make sure we can get to the back of the property

- A structural engineer’s report
- What’s under the slates, tiles or felt

Useful tips for Compton property owners
Most of what helps is simple and safe from the ground. A few suggestions:
- Keep pets indoors during the flight
- Allow for a change of day in poor weather
- A word with neighbours beforehand helps
- Tell us the exact address as you book
If you need work done, roofers can work from the photos. The photos show the location and extent of every problem, so their quotes cover the same ground.
Have leaves and moss cleared from gutters, valleys and outlets, especially in autumn. On high roofs, leave clearing to a professional. Blocked hidden gutters cause many leaks.
Should I look at the roof myself first?
Look up at the roof after a storm, from the ground: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.
What a drone roof survey looks like in Compton
The flight restriction zone around Southampton Airport comes within about 2 miles of Compton. We check the exact boundary for the address before flying, and if the roof falls inside it, we ask for permission first. Thatch survives on some older buildings in Hampshire’s villages. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up aerial photos and thermal images help.
If you live in an older home near Church of All Saints, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof frequently shows up clearly on a thermal image. For site and facilities teams at buildings like Compton All Saints Church of England Primary School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

Compton questions
Will you come out to Compton?
Yes, Compton is covered. We work right across London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned ahead of time.
Is drone flying allowed in Compton?
Normally it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Compton is about 2 miles from the edge of the flight restriction zone around Southampton Airport. We check the exact boundary for the address before flying, and if the roof falls inside it, we ask for permission first. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.
What does the report include?
It explains what we saw, what it means and what we’d suggest, with photos throughout. Anything we couldn’t see safely is noted too, so you know exactly what was covered.
Will you walk on the roof?
Only where it is safe to do so. We look at everything that can safely be seen: from the ground, from windows and vantage points, from the roof space, from the roof itself where safe and by drone where it applies. Anything we cannot see is noted in the report.
How long is the visit?
That depends on the size and shape of the roof; most visits take about one to two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. The report is sent afterwards by email.
Can you give me structural calculations?
No. We’re roof surveyors, not structural engineers, and it doesn’t include calculations. We will recommend an engineer if we see signs that call for one.
Does the report include photos?
Yes. We photograph the roof as we go, and the report uses them to show each finding alongside our recommendations.
