Tips from our surveys

Over many surveys, some simple habits stand out as worth the effort:

  • Give us the full address so we can check the airspace
  • Move stored items away from the hatch
  • Tell us about any leaks or concerns
  • Clear a spot on the drive or lawn

If you need work done, roofers can work from the photos. They’ll see exactly where each defect is, so their quotes cover the same ground.

Every so often, look in the roof space with a torch, keeping to boarded areas. A drone sees the outside, but the loft shows leaks and condensation from below. Photograph anything new.

Drone roof survey in Cote

Some roofs are hard or unsafe to reach. A drone takes close-up photographs of those roofs from the air. You see slates, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters in detail. Everything we find goes into a report with photographs. It’s also a good option where walking on the roof could break slates or tiles. If we cannot fly, we tell you why. We are frequently asked to look into ponding and splits on a high flat roof and moss building up on slopes and in gutters, across flat roofs on upper floors, tall and steep roofs and fragile roofs.

Some older homes in villages like Cote are listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care, before anyone decides what work it needs. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.

The written findings come by email, easy to pass on to a roofer, an agent or an insurer. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and same day for Premium.

Cote: your questions answered

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Cote?

Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. It is worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.

Do you cover smaller places like Cote?

We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house.

What happens after the survey?

You will get the report by email. The Standard Survey includes a follow-up consultation, and the Premium Survey an in-person consultation, so you can talk the findings through.

Does the drone show the underside of the roof?

No. It photographs the outside, not the inside. The roof space is checked separately, where there’s safe access.

Can you survey a roof inside a flight restriction zone?

Flight restriction zones around protected airports need permission from the airport or air traffic control before any flight. We check your address and ask for permission where it’s required. If it is not given, we inspect by other means.

Will you photograph next door’s garden?

We point the camera at your roof only. Neighbouring homes and gardens aren’t the subject. It helps to tell neighbours beforehand.

Can the drone do thermal imaging?

The drone survey is a photographic inspection. Thermal imaging is carried out separately, and it is part of the Premium Survey.

What happens on the day

Every roof is different, but as a rough guide the survey takes an hour or two at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. You’re welcome to ask questions while we are there. Older roofs in small places like Cote can have low, tight loft spaces, so let us know about the loft hatch and any ladder. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.

  1. We confirm whether a drone suits your roof.
  2. We agree a date, including weekends, subject to the weather.
  3. The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
  4. We also look inside the loft space where it’s safe.
  5. Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.

What a drone roof survey looks like in Cote

Cote lies within about 3 miles of the sea, and wind near the sea can be strong. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, so the weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.

Anyone responsible for a site like Durrington Junior School will know that a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it. If you live in an older home near St Symphorian's Church, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help.

Cote is about 2 miles north-west of Worthing, in West Sussex. Cote gets the same service as everywhere else we work: a careful inspection, photographs and a written report. Cote is one of the towns and villages in West Sussex where we work. You can also see our page for Brighton.

Surveys in BN13 work the same way as everywhere else we cover. Neighbouring places we cover for drone roof surveys include Durrington (1 mile south-east), High Salvington (1 mile north-east), Clapham (1 mile west), Patching (2 miles west) and Findon (2 miles north). We also work in nearby towns like Bognor Regis (12 miles west), Burgess Hill (15 miles north-east), Littlehampton (5 miles south-west), Shoreham-by-Sea (7 miles east), Lancing (4 miles east) and Rustington (4 miles south-west).

Landlords, agents and block managers in Cote

Landlords, agents and building managers in Cote and across West Sussex can book any of our surveys. For a price for a let property or a block, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

Shared roofs need a little more planning: access has to be agreed with whoever owns or manages the building. Mention it when you get in touch and we’ll plan the visit with that in mind.

What happens if roof problems are left?

Photographing a roof from the air does not touch it. Nothing is cracked or dislodged by footsteps, so you see the roof exactly as it is. For an older or listed building in a place like Cote, repairs may need matching materials and consent, so leaving a defect until it’s urgent leaves less time to plan.

We offer three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, with VAT included. What your roof costs depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.

Different roofs, different checks

Flat roofs on tall buildings

Leaks often start at outlets, edges and around plant. We photograph them closely.

Valleys and parapet gutters

A butterfly roof drains to a central valley gutter. It is almost impossible to see from ground level, but a drone shows it clearly.

Do you need a drone roof survey in Cote?

Many roofs are never seen properly from the ground. Rear slopes, valleys and the tops of chimneys are hidden. Faults there can go unnoticed for years, which is why owners turn to a drone.

Look out for signs like these:

  • Cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below
  • Plant growth and moss on the roof
  • Flat roofs on upper floors that hold water
  • Ridge and hip pieces working loose

Historic houses like Ecclesden Manor, about 2.5 miles south-west, show how far back building around Cote goes. Photos from the air and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it.
