Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Datchet

Drones need reasonable weather. We don’t fly in strong wind or a downpour, because control and safety come first. If the day turns out unsuitable, we will talk about another date or inspect what we can by other means. The forecast is checked ahead of the visit and again on the day. Calm, dry conditions give the sharpest close-up photos. A short delay is better than a rushed flight. If you are worried about gaps where slates or tiles have gone and wind damage high on the roof, we can find out what’s behind it.

In smaller places like Datchet, many homes are bungalows and houses with roofs you can partly see from ground level. The parts you cannot see, like rear slopes, valleys and chimney tops, are where a drone or thermal camera adds detail. Both depend on the weather on the day. Even so, a close-up image frequently shows wear on ridges and flashings that a view from the ground misses.

Where we cannot see part of the roof, the report says so. You will know exactly what was inspected and what wasn’t, and what we’d suggest next.

Can I check my roof myself?

During heavy rain, look at the gutters from the ground or a window. Overflowing water can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.

Look up at the roof after a storm, from the ground: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Don’t go up yourself.

Common questions in Datchet

Is my home in Datchet listed or in a conservation area?

Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it is worth checking before planning any.

Do you cover smaller places like Datchet?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work right across London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

What’s in the report?

It works through the roof part by part, in writing and with photos, and ends with what we recommend. The most urgent items are made clear.

Can you fly a drone in central London?

Central London has restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs, where flights need permission from NATS. We check the airspace for your address and apply where needed.

How soon will I get the report?

That depends on the survey you book: the Basic Survey report arrives within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey the same day. Reports are sent by email.

Are you insured?

We hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

We carry out surveys on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. To arrange a date, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

How it works

Expect us to ask a few questions before we start, like when any problem began and what work has been done before. The inspection then takes about one to two hours for most houses, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. With a bit of garden around a house, as there frequently is around Datchet, the roof can be viewed from several angles. Mention any side of the property we cannot get to. Inside, the loft is looked at where it can be reached safely.

  1. You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
  2. If permission is needed, we ask for it before the visit.
  3. Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
  4. The drone captures close-up photos of the coverings, chimneys, valleys and gutters.
  5. You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.

How to prepare

  • For flats, check roof access has been agreed
  • Show us where any leaks or stains appear
  • Leave side gates unlocked

Tips that help

Here are a few things we’d tell any owner:

  • Move stored items away from the hatch
  • Be ready to move the date if the weather turns
  • Book early if you’re near an airport
  • Mention anything you’ve noticed on the roof

The Premium Survey includes an in-person consultation to talk through the photos and findings. You can ask about anything that isn’t clear.

Have high or hard-to-reach roofs surveyed every few years. Regular photos make changes easy to spot, so small faults are dealt with early.

Prices for drone roof surveys in Datchet

A few things affect what a survey costs:

  • Height and safe access
  • How many separate roofs there are, such as extensions, dormers and garages
  • Commercial roofs and larger buildings
  • Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details

A Basic Survey starts from £150, inc. VAT. Standard is from £250 and Premium from £400. You will know the price for your survey before booking.

What to tell us when you get in touch

If you can, have these to hand when you get in touch:

  • The property’s address and postcode
  • Anything about access we should know
  • Where water is showing inside, if it is
  • Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them

Getting a price is simple: just call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and give us a few details about the property and we’ll suggest the right survey. The price is agreed up front.

What we’re asked to look at in Datchet

Steep and tall roofs are hard to inspect safely. Three-storey houses, blocks of flats and tall commercial buildings are common examples. A drone gets close-up views from a safe position on the ground.

Look out for signs like these:

  • Outlets choked with leaves and silt
  • Damage after a storm that cannot be seen from below
  • Ridge pieces that have lifted
  • Gaps where slates or tiles have gone

The streets around a church such as Church of St Mary are often among the oldest in a place, and if your house is among the older ones nearby, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help.

What to check before booking

  • What the survey will not cover
  • Whether the loft is part of the inspection
  • Will the report include photos?
  • Is VAT included in the price?

What a good roof survey covers

Different roofs, different checks

Chimney stacks

The drone shows the outside of the stack, and it isn’t a flue or gas safety check. If the flue needs a specialist, we will tell you.

Valleys and parapet gutters

Valleys and parapet gutters are hidden from the street. A drone shows linings, joints and build-ups of debris.

Airspace, weather and Datchet roofs

The flight restriction zone around Heathrow Airport comes within about 1 mile of Datchet. The exact boundary is checked for each address before any flight, and a roof inside it needs permission before we fly. Frogmore House, about 1 mile south-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Datchet. Older homes in the wider area often have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years.

If you look after a building like Datchet St Mary's CofE Primary School, big roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images show the most at once. If you run a hotel or guest house in or near Datchet, a roof problem can mean rooms out of use, so it’s worth knowing the roof’s condition.
