Before and after the survey

Some practical points come up on survey after survey. They’re worth knowing whatever the roof:

  • Expect us to rearrange if it’s too windy or wet
  • Give us the full address so we can check the airspace
  • Keep pets indoors during the flight
  • Tell next door if the drone will be near their property

Your report arrives by email, with close-up photographs from the flight. Each finding is explained in plain words, with recommendations prioritised by urgency where relevant.

Plan a drone survey every few years for tall or large roofs. Comparing surveys shows what is wearing, and early repairs keep water out.

Drone roof survey in Sunnymeads: what you get

A drone can see more than your roof, so we take care. The camera stays on your roof, not on gardens or windows next door. If your roof is shared, a word with next door beforehand helps. We inspect only what the owner has asked us to. Flights are kept as short as the job allows and focused on the roof in question. We survey flat roofs on upper floors, valleys and parapet gutters and fragile roofs, and common reasons people get in touch are slipped or missing slates on a high roof and moss and weeds taking hold up top.

Somewhere as small as Sunnymeads, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you can’t get from ground level. Weather and airspace are looked at before the visit, and the journey is planned in advance. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.

With the Standard Survey, you also get moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

What a survey costs

Not every roof costs the same to survey, for these reasons:

  • The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium
  • Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details
  • The size of the roof
  • Height and safe access

Prices start from £400, including VAT. The final price depends on how big and how high the roof is, access and the package you choose.

What we need to know

Before you get in touch, it helps to have:

  • Photos of the roof, taken safely from ground level or a window
  • Your timetable, like an exchange date
  • Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
  • Access details, like a loft hatch or a shared roof

Our price is from £400, including VAT. The exact figure depends on the roof and the package, so call 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the details.

Roof by roof

Valleys and parapet gutters

When a parapet outlet blocks, water can come inside. We check outlets and photograph any build-up.

Flat roofs on tall buildings

Felt frequently lasts around 15 to 20 years, EPDM rubber around 30 to 50 and GRP up to about 30. We record the signs of age we can see.

Should I look at the roof myself first?

Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.

A lot can be seen from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Never climb onto the roof to look.

How the survey works

We don’t take risks to get a closer look. We inspect everything that’s safely in view, and if part of the roof can’t be seen, the report says so. The survey normally takes about one to two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Older roofs in small places like Sunnymeads can have low, tight loft spaces, so tell us about the loft hatch and any ladder. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.

  1. First, we check whether a drone is the right tool.
  2. A date is fixed, with a fallback in case the weather turns.
  3. We fly over the roof, keeping the camera on the property we’re surveying.
  4. We also look inside the loft space where it is safe.
  5. Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.

How to prepare

  • Make sure the loft hatch can be reached
  • Let us know about parking near the property
  • Find any records of previous roof work

Advice

Why get it checked now?

Faults on high roofs tend to be found late. By that stage the damage has spread inside. A drone survey finds them sooner. Older cottages and farmhouses around Sunnymeads can have roof timbers that have been there a very long time, where water from a failed roof can cause rot if it’s left.

Prices quoted always include VAT, and the written report is part of the package. Prices start from £400, including VAT. Size, height and access decide where your roof falls.

FAQs for Sunnymeads

Is Sunnymeads within the area you cover?

Yes, Sunnymeads is covered. We survey roofs across London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

How do I find out if my home in Sunnymeads is listed?

Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. It’s worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.

I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?

Yes. Shared roofs just need a little more planning. Tell us about it as you book and we’ll explain what’s needed.

Are you insured?

We’re covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance.

Can you fly a drone in central London?

In some places, only with permission. Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs have restricted areas that need NATS permission. Every address is checked first, and fall back on other viewpoints if we can’t fly.

What does the report include?

It explains what we saw, what it means and what we’d suggest, with photographs throughout. Anything we couldn’t see safely is noted too, so you know exactly what was covered.

Will you walk on the roof?

Only where it is safe to do so. We check everything that can be seen safely: from ground level, from windows and vantage points, from the loft space, from the roof itself where safe and by drone where it applies. The report says if anything couldn’t be seen.

The flight restriction zone around Heathrow Airport comes within about 1 mile of Sunnymeads. The exact boundary is checked for each address before any flight, and a roof inside it needs permission before we fly. Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight.

Frogmore House, about 1.6 miles west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Sunnymeads. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from ground level, and a survey from above or with a thermal imager doesn’t touch the roof itself. If you live in an older home near SS Peter and Andrew's Church, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Wraysbury Primary School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.
