Drone roof survey in Egham
Drone surveys suit tall houses, blocks of flats, steep roofs and large commercial roofs. They’re useful where walking on the roof could damage it or isn’t safe. You get close-up views without anyone setting foot on the roof. We check the airspace for your address ahead of the visit. If a drone is not the right tool, we will say so. Typical surveys look at loose ridge and hip tiles and slates or tiles shifted by high winds, across flat roofs on upper floors, fragile roofs and tall and steep roofs.
Around a town like Egham, steep roofs, tall gables and rear slopes are frequently hidden from ground level. A drone can take close-up photos of them, and thermal imaging can show patterns of heat loss or trapped moisture. Each needs the right weather, so the date is set with the forecast in mind. A typical example is the rear slope over a back addition, which can’t be seen from the street.
We write the report in plain English, so it makes sense without any roofing background. Photos show what each point refers to.

Common roof problems in Egham
Chimney tops take the worst of the weather. From ground level, you rarely see cracked flaunching or loose pots. Close-up drone photos show their condition.
These are some of the problems a survey can pick up:
- Slipped or missing slates on a high roof
- Blocked valleys and parapet gutters
- Blistered or cracked flat roof coverings
- Eroded pointing on a chimney stack
For an older house near a landmark such as St John's Church, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that is where a view from above or with a thermal imager helps.
What to check before booking
- Whether you can ask questions once you have the report
- What the report includes, and whether it has photographs
- How they’ll see the roof: from the ground, the loft, the roof or by drone
- Whether any drone flown is registered with the CAA
Roof by roof
Flat roofs on tall buildings
Leaks often start at outlets, edges and around plant. They’re all captured in close-up, as far as the flight allows.
Ridges and hips
Wind lifts loose ridge and hip tiles. Spotting them early stops them falling.

Questions from Egham
Are there drone restrictions around Egham?
It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.
Is Egham in the area you cover?
Yes, Egham is one of the places we work. The survey and report are the same in Egham as anywhere else.
I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?
Yes, as long as access is agreed. The roof of a block or converted house is often shared, so we need permission from whoever owns or manages the building. We can only inspect what we are given access to.
Will I get photos?
Yes. The report includes photos of what we found, so you can see each point for yourself.
Are you structural engineers?
No. We point out what can be seen, such as sagging or deflection, but we’re not structural engineers and do not carry out calculations. If we think you need an engineer, the report says so.
What does a roof survey cost?
Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. We confirm the price for your roof before you book, based on the roof’s size, access and package. For a price, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form.
Does someone need to be in?
That depends on the survey. For inside areas and the loft space, someone has to give us access; we’ll agree the details when you book.
How the survey works
Before we start, tell us why you’ve booked: a purchase, a leak, a storm, new work or simply peace of mind. It helps us focus on what matters most to you. Most visits take an hour or two at a typical home, and more on a big or complicated roof. Most visits in a town like Egham start at the front of the house and work round to the back. The back garden is often where extensions, dormers and rear slopes are best seen, so unlocked gates help. The loft comes next, where there’s safe access.
- We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
- We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
- On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
- The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
- We email the report with close-up photos and recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
- If it isn’t your property yet, arrange access through the agent

Advice
Drones, thermal imaging and Egham roofs
Within a mile and a half or so of Egham there are several hotels. For hotels and other commercial buildings, large roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images show the most at once. Frogmore House, about 3.7 miles north-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Egham. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area.
Take a building like Manorcroft Primary School: a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it. For hotels and guest houses around Egham, a roof problem found early is far less disruptive than one found by a guest, so it is worth knowing the roof’s condition.

Checking the roof from the ground
It helps to keep a record: dates of leaks, photos from the ground and any work done on the roof. Send it with your enquiry.
You can learn a lot from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please do not climb up for a closer look.
Honest limits
In fairness, a roof survey has limits:
- Roofs and gardens beyond the one we are surveying
- A flight on a day when the weather isn’t safe
- The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
If you’re not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll give you a straight answer. The full list of what we check.

- Flat roofs on upper floors
Why act early in Egham
Leaving a high roof unchecked means relying on what you can see from below. Close-up photos show what’s really there, slope by slope. It is far easier to plan work when you can see the problem. Extensions and dormers on homes around Egham often hide the first signs of trouble at their joints with the main roof. Left for a few seasons, it can spoil plaster, skirting and flooring inside.
Prices start from £150, inc. VAT, for a Basic Survey. The Standard Survey starts from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400. We confirm the price for your survey before you book.
