Thermal roof surveys around Sunnymeads
The flight restriction zone around Heathrow Airport comes within about 1 mile of Sunnymeads. If the drone is used for your survey, we check the exact boundary for the address before flying. Historic houses like Frogmore House, about 1.6 miles west, show how far back building in the area around Sunnymeads goes. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters.
For an older house near a landmark such as SS Peter and Andrew's Church, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.

About our thermal roof survey in Sunnymeads
A thermal survey can point to places where heat is escaping through the roof. Missing or slipped insulation and gaps at the eaves often show up as temperature differences. The difference shows most clearly when it is warm inside and cold outside. The report shows the images and explains what they may mean. We do not give energy ratings or heat loss calculations. If you’ve noticed possible trapped moisture under a flat roof covering and gaps in loft insulation, we can find out what’s behind it, on commercial roofs, flat roofs and pitched roof slopes alike.
Some older homes in villages like Sunnymeads are listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, so it’s a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof, before anyone decides what work it needs. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.
Pictures do a lot of the work in our reports, so you can see each defect rather than just read about it. Anything out of sight on the day is listed as such.

Your questions about thermal roof surveys in Sunnymeads
How do I find out if my home in Sunnymeads is listed?
Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case.
Is drone flying allowed in Sunnymeads?
That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. The flight restriction zone around Heathrow Airport comes within about 1 mile of Sunnymeads. The exact boundary is checked for each address before any flight, and a roof inside it needs permission before we fly. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather, though the rest of the survey goes ahead either way.
Will the camera show exactly where the water is?
No, not on its own. It shows temperature, and wet materials often behave differently from dry ones. That’s why we check any patterns with moisture readings.
How long is the visit?
That depends on the size and shape of the roof; most visits take an hour or two on an ordinary house, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. The report is sent afterwards by email.
How many surveys have you done?
Over 5,000 surveys so far, across 20+ years of surveying roofs, and 98% of clients are satisfied.
How much does a thermal roof survey cost?
It’s part of the Premium Survey, from £400. You also get an in-person consultation and a 12-month follow-up. For bigger commercial roofs, we quote on size.
Will you go up on the roof?
Only if it’s safe. We inspect whatever is safely visible: from ground level, from windows and vantage points, from the roof space, from the roof itself where safe and by drone where it applies. The report says if anything couldn’t be seen.
Surveys for landlords and agents in Sunnymeads
Where a roof is shared: access has to be agreed with whoever owns or manages the building. Let us know about it as you book and we will plan the survey around it.
For blocks of flats, a roof survey helps managing agents and residents’ management companies plan ahead. Recommendations are set out with the most urgent first where relevant, which helps when budgeting.
What we can’t see
We only report what can be seen safely on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:
- A formal energy assessment
- Seeing water directly, as the camera shows temperature, not moisture
- What’s inside walls or under coverings, without opening up
If you’re not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will give you a straight answer before booking. What our survey covers.

Checking the roof from ground level
A DIY look is useful, but it isn’t a survey. You won’t see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground.
What you can’t do safely is get up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery. That’s where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where applicable.
Different roofs, different checks
Felt and asphalt flat roofs
Built-up felt and asphalt roofs can hide trapped water for a long time. The camera can give clues to where it’s sitting, when the conditions allow.
Parapets, valleys and junctions
Damp at junctions can be hard to see by eye. We combine a close visual check with the thermal images.

Signs you need a thermal roof survey in Sunnymeads
Building owners and managing agents use thermal surveys to plan work on larger flat roofs. Patterns can point to wet areas and show which parts look sound, so we know where to take moisture readings.
Problems we come across frequently include:
- Water getting in at parapets and stacks
- Damp around roof outlets and upstands
- Stains that keep coming back
- Leaks that are hard to trace
Take a building like Wraysbury Primary School: big roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images show the most at once.
Questions to ask before booking
- Will the report include photos?
- Which parts of the roof they’ll actually see
- Do they have a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID for drone work?
- How soon the report will arrive
How it works
We do not take risks to get a closer look. Everything that can be seen safely is inspected, and anything we cannot see is noted in the report. Most visits take an hour or two on an ordinary house, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. Around Sunnymeads, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so it helps to know whether there is a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. We only go where it’s safe.
- First we go over the roof, the problem you’ve noticed and the conditions forecast for the visit.
- We carry out a visual inspection of the roof from wherever it can be seen safely.
- Thermal images are taken to show differences in surface temperature.
- We check the patterns that stand out with moisture readings where there’s safe access.
- The report sets out the images, what they suggest and what we recommend.
Preparing for the visit
- Point out any leaks or damp patches
- If you are buying, check with the agent that we can get in
- Move anything stored under the loft hatch
