Drone Roof Survey in Dragons Green
An experienced roof surveyor for drone roof surveys in Dragons Green. More than 20 years and over 5,000 surveys.
- Gaps where slates or tiles have gone
- Damage after a storm that cannot be seen from below
- Cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots
Why get it checked now?
A drone survey disturbs nothing on the roof. Nothing is cracked or dislodged by footsteps, so the survey does not create new problems. Matching old materials, like handmade tiles or stone slates, can take time to source. That is one more reason to find defects before they become urgent.
The Premium Survey includes thermal imaging and drone inspection where it applies, from £400 including VAT. We can help you choose the package that fits what you’d like to know.

How a drone roof survey works in Dragons Green
Some roofs are hard or unsafe to reach. Our drone roof survey gets a camera close to them without anyone climbing. It shows coverings, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters clearly. The photos go into a written report. It’s also a good option where walking on the roof could break slates or tiles. Where a flight is not possible, we explain why. We survey large and complex roofs, tall and steep roofs and chimney stacks, and people most often book us about cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below and blistered or cracked flat roof coverings.
Some older homes in villages like Dragons Green are listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, so it’s a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.
The report is yours to share with whoever needs it: your solicitor, the seller, your insurer, a roofer or the building’s managing agent.

What we look for on each type of roof
Large commercial roofs
Large commercial roofs cover a lot of ground. The drone covers the roof area by area.
Chimney stacks
The drone shows the outside of the stack, not a flue, gas or sweep inspection. We will say if a specialist is needed.

What else we do in Dragons Green
Before and after the survey
Getting the most from a drone roof survey starts before we arrive and carries on afterwards. Tips:
- Keep pets indoors during the flight
- Keep a clear space in the garden or drive for take-off
- A word with neighbours beforehand helps
- Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too
Premium also includes a 12-month follow-up. It shows whether anything has moved or worn since the first visit, and whether work has done its job.
Keep the roof space ventilated. Poor airflow lets condensation build up, and it’s something only an inside check will show. Keep insulation clear of the eaves.

Buyers’ agents can book surveys on behalf of their clients. Reports are emailed, so they’re easy to pass on, photographs included.
We survey roofs for landlords and letting agents as well as homeowners. A written report with photos gives you a clear record of the roof, useful for planning maintenance.
FAQs for Dragons Green
Is my home in Dragons Green listed or in a conservation area?
For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. It matters most if you are planning to re-roof in a different material.
Are there drone restrictions around Dragons Green?
That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. Strong wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.
Does the report include photos?
Yes, every report has them. Pictures sit next to the findings they show.
Do you look in the roof space?
If there’s a loft and safe access to it, yes. The loft space can show things the outside cannot, such as damp timbers, staining or daylight.
What happens next?
You receive the written report by email, with photographs and recommendations. You can use it to talk to a seller, an insurer, a roofer or a managing agent, whichever applies.
How quickly is the report sent?
That depends on the survey you book: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day. Reports are sent by email.
How long will you be at the property?
Expect it to take about one to two hours for most houses, and longer for a large or complex roof. The written report follows by email, on the timescale of your package.
What this survey cannot tell you
Some things can’t be seen without opening up the roof, so a survey has limits:
- Whether the roof structure meets design loads
- Flights in a restricted zone without permission
- The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or email us and we will tell you before booking. The full list of what we check.
What this survey covers
- Chimney stacks
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Fragile roofs
- Flat roofs on upper floors
- Tall and steep roofs
- Large and complex roofs
How it works
Where it is relevant and can be reached safely, the roof space is checked as well as the outside. In the loft, the signs we look for are staining, damp, daylight and sagging. All in, the survey typically takes roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Somewhere as small as Dragons Green, access is often the only tricky part. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.
- We start by checking the airspace and any restrictions at your address.
- We arrange any permission that’s needed before we fly.
- On the day, we check the weather and the site before flying.
- The drone captures close-up photos of the coverings, chimneys, valleys and gutters.
- We email a written report with the photographs and our recommendations.

Airspace, weather and Dragons Green roofs
The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight. Many older homes in Sussex have handmade clay tiles and tile-hung walls. A few old Sussex buildings still carry heavy Horsham stone slabs. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up aerial photos and thermal images help.
For an older house near a landmark such as The Church of St Mary the Virgin, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image. If you look after a building such as Shipley CofE Primary School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.
