Practical tips

A few practical points come up again and again on our surveys. They’re worth knowing whatever the roof:

  • Let us know what you want to see
  • Keep a clear space in the garden or drive for take-off
  • Expect a little longer if permission is needed
  • Make sure the loft can be reached

With the Premium Survey, the report arrives the same day. It includes the drone photos where a flight was possible, alongside the other checks in the package.

Plan a drone survey every few years for tall or large roofs. Regular photos make changes easy to spot, so small faults are dealt with early.

About our drone roof survey in Broomer's Corner

A drone shows the outside of a roof very well, but it can’t see inside. Where there’s safe access, we look in the roof space too, because the underside tells its own story. Inside and out together tell you far more. Your report shows the drone photos alongside what we saw in the loft. Where the loft cannot be reached safely, we note it. If you’ve noticed plant growth and moss on the roof and lifted or split lead flashings, we can find out what’s behind it.

In a small place like Broomer's Corner, open ground can mean strong wind. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.

Pictures do a lot of the work in our reports, because a photo of a cracked flashing says more than a paragraph. If something couldn’t be seen safely, the report is clear about it.

Do you need a drone roof survey in Broomer's Corner?

After storms, owners want to know what has moved. It’s hard to tell from below what has shifted. Close-up photos make it clear what has been disturbed.

A survey can pick up problems such as:

  • Worn lead at chimneys and walls
  • Hidden gutters full of leaves
  • Cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below
  • Standing water on a flat roof

For an older house near a landmark like St Mary's Mission Church, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof frequently shows up clearly on a thermal image.

What to check before booking

  • How long the report takes to arrive
  • Whether you can ask questions once you have the report
  • Whether VAT is added on top
  • Will they check the loft as well as the outside?

What’s in a roof survey

Flying and imaging in Broomer's Corner

The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons.

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as William Penn School, big roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images show the most at once.

How the survey changes by roof type

Ridges and hips

The ridge takes wind from both sides. From above, we can see loose ridges and missing mortar.

Flat roofs on tall buildings

Outlets, edges and roof plant are common problem areas. They’re all captured in close-up.

What affects the price in Broomer's Corner

Prices vary from roof to roof, and it comes down to:

  • How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
  • Commercial roofs and larger buildings
  • Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
  • The roof’s overall size

Price depends partly on the package: from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, with VAT included. Size, height and access can affect the price too.

Getting in touch

To price your survey accurately, we will ask about:

  • Photos of the roof, taken safely from ground level or a window
  • Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
  • How the loft is reached, if there is one
  • Any marks or damp showing indoors

We confirm the price for your roof before you book, so you know the cost up front. Our price is from £400, including VAT. For a price for your roof, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

How the survey works

The visit has one job: to see as much of the roof as can safely be seen and record it clearly. Everything we note and photograph goes into the written report. The visit typically takes about 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. In a hamlet or village like Broomer's Corner, a postcode doesn’t always lead to the right gate, so a few directions are welcome. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.

  1. You give us the address and tell us about the roof.
  2. We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
  3. Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are checked.
  4. We fly the sub-250g drone close to the roof and photograph each area.
  5. The findings, photos and recommendations reach you by email.

Before the survey

  • Move anything stored under the loft hatch
  • Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
  • If you’re buying, let the agent know when we’re coming

Arrange a survey

Photos help, if you have them. Take them safely from the ground or a window. To send them or to book, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

Checking the roof from the ground

A DIY look is useful, but it isn’t a survey. From ground level, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight.

After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Do not go up yourself.

Broomer's Corner questions

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Broomer's Corner?

Normally it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. High wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.

Is Broomer's Corner within the area you cover?

Yes, Broomer's Corner is on our map. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house, with the route planned beforehand.

How much is a survey?

Prices start from £400, including VAT. Our three packages are Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, including VAT.

Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?

No. We can flag materials that might contain asbestos, but only a specialist asbestos surveyor can confirm it. Buildings built or refurbished before 2000 may contain it.

Does the report include photographs?

Yes. The report includes photographs of what we found, so you can see each point for yourself.

Can you give me structural calculations?

No. We are roof surveyors, not structural engineers, and it does not include calculations. We will recommend an engineer if we see signs that call for one.

Do you look in the loft space?

Where it is relevant to the survey and there’s safe access, yes. Please clear anything stored under the hatch.
