Independent drone roof surveys in Duncton

About our drone roof survey in Duncton

Drone surveys suit tall houses, blocks of flats, steep roofs and large commercial roofs. They’re useful where walking on the roof could damage it or isn’t safe. You get close-up views without anyone setting foot on the roof. Before the visit, we check the address for any airspace restrictions that apply. If a drone is not the right tool, we’ll say so. If you’re worried about moss and weeds taking hold up top and storm damage on steep or tall roofs, a survey will tell you what’s going on.

Somewhere as small as Duncton, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what cannot be reached safely. Weather and airspace are looked at ahead of the visit. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.

The Standard Survey adds moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

Rented homes, blocks and businesses

We survey roofs for landlords and agents as well as homeowners. A written report with photos gives you a clear record of the roof, which helps you plan work between tenancies.

Letting agents can arrange access with tenants, at a time agreed ahead of time. We survey on any day of the week, which can make access easier.

Common questions in Duncton

How do I find out if my home in Duncton is listed?

You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it’s in a conservation area. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Duncton?

The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?

No. Our report may flag materials that could contain asbestos, but confirming it is a job for a specialist asbestos surveyor. It may be present in buildings built or refurbished before 2000.

Is this a RICS survey?

No. Our survey looks at the roof, not the whole building. If you need a full building survey, you’ll need a RICS survey as well.

Is it a structural engineer’s report?

No. We are roof surveyors, not structural engineers. We will recommend an engineer if we see signs that call for one.

What’s the best way to book?

To book, call 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address, the type of property and what’s prompted the survey. We will confirm the price and find a day that suits.

What if it rains on the day?

It can, depending on the survey. Drones cannot fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, and thermal imaging works best with a dry roof, little wind and a sunny day beforehand. If the conditions are not right, we will talk to you about another date.

Flying and imaging in Duncton

In Sussex, older roofs are frequently handmade clay tile, frequently with tile-hanging on the walls below. Horsham stone slab roofs survive on some old Sussex buildings. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up photos from the air and thermal images help. We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight.

Take a building like Duncton CofE Junior School: a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it. If your home is one of the older ones in the streets near Church of Holy Trinity, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof frequently shows up clearly on a thermal image. Bignor Roman Villa lies about 2.4 miles south-east, so building around Duncton goes back a long way. For older roofs nearby, a look from above or with a thermal imager is a hands-off way to check condition.

Duncton is about 10 miles north-east of Chichester, in West Sussex. Wherever you are in Duncton, we can carry out drone roof surveys at your property, on a weekday, Saturday or Sunday. Our West Sussex coverage includes Duncton and the places around it. There’s also a page for Guildford.

Here we cover the GU28 postcode area for drone roof surveys. We offer drone roof surveys to properties on Duncton High Street and Willett Close. If you are just outside Duncton, we cover East Lavington (1 mile south-west), Sutton (2 miles south-east), Rotherbridge (2 miles north), Graffham (2 miles west) and Haslingbourne (2 miles north-east). Larger places within reach include Worthing (13 miles south-east), Bognor Regis (11 miles south), Chichester (10 miles south-west), Littlehampton (10 miles south-east), Emsworth (15 miles south-west) and Rustington (11 miles south-east).

What affects the price in Duncton

Every roof is different, so prices are confirmed before you book. These are the things that affect it:

  • The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium
  • How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
  • How big the roof is
  • Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed

What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: its size, its height, how many sections it has and how safely it can be seen. Our price is from £400, including VAT.

Getting in touch

There is no need for technical words. Just tell us:

  • The property’s address and postcode
  • The style of property, from a terrace to a block
  • Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof
  • The reason for the survey, such as buying, a leak or storm damage

Buyers should book once an offer has been accepted, so there is time to use the report before exchange. Otherwise, simply phone 07833 053749 or send us an email whenever suits you.

What happens if roof problems are left?

Photos from a drone survey show how the roof looks today. Next time, you can compare and see what has moved or worn. It helps when you plan ahead. Older and listed buildings around Duncton may need consent and matching materials for repairs, so leaving a defect until it’s urgent leaves less time to plan.

One thing that affects the price is the package: from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, inc. VAT. The roof’s size, height and access matter as well.

What a drone roof survey doesn’t cover

Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, so a survey has limits:

  • Whether the roof structure meets design loads
  • Photos in conditions too poor to fly
  • Flights in a restricted zone without permission

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can call 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will tell you. The full list of what we check.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Fragile roofs
  • Chimney stacks
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors

Tips from our surveys

A few practical points come up again and again on our surveys. They apply to most roofs:

  • Book early if you’re near an airport
  • Tell us the exact address as you book
  • Keep a clear space in the garden or drive for take-off
  • Shut pets inside while we fly

There is a follow-up after 12 months with the Premium Survey. It shows whether anything has moved or worn since the first visit, and whether work has done its job.

Have leaves and moss cleared from gutters, valleys and outlets, especially in autumn. On high roofs, leave clearing to a professional. Many leaks start with a blocked outlet.

What happens on the day

Every visit follows the same pattern: we hear what you’ve seen, look at the roof from every safe viewpoint, take photos as we go and make notes for the report. Most visits take about one to two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Older rural homes like those around Duncton can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints.

  1. We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
  2. Any flight restriction at the address is checked, with permission requested if required.
  3. Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are checked.
  4. Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
  5. We email the report with close-up photos and recommendations.

Preparing for the visit

  • Point out any leaks or damp patches
  • Find any records of previous roof work
  • Keep pets inside or away from the areas we’re looking at
