Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Dunton Green

They suit tall buildings, steep or large roofs and roofs that are hard to see from the ground. They also suit fragile roofs that nobody should walk on, such as old slate, clay tiles or cement sheets. You get close-up views without anyone setting foot on the roof. Before the visit, we check the address for any airspace restrictions that apply. We’ll tell you if another approach would work better. We survey tall and steep roofs, large and complex roofs and valleys and parapet gutters, and people most often book us about debris building up in hidden gutters and slates or tiles shifted by high winds.

Villages like Dunton Green often stand in open country, where wind can be strong. A small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.

The report is yours to share with whoever needs it: a seller or estate agent, an insurer, a roofer, a builder or a managing agent.

Should I look at the roof myself first?

You can learn a lot from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Never climb onto the roof to look.

During heavy rain, look at the gutters from the ground or a window. Overflowing water can point to a blockage or a sagging run.

Questions from Dunton Green

Is my home in Dunton Green listed or in a conservation area?

You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it is in a conservation area. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.

Will you come out to Dunton Green?

Yes, Dunton Green is covered. We survey roofs across London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

What if my home is near an airport?

It depends on the airspace at your address. Flying inside a flight restriction zone needs permission from the airport or air traffic control, which can add time. Allow a little extra time if your home is close to an airport.

Do you survey on Saturdays and Sundays?

We survey seven days a week: weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Just tell us the days that suit you.

Do you hold CAA registration for the drone?

Yes. We hold both a CAA Flyer ID and an Operator ID. We use a sub-250g drone.

Does the drone show the underside of the roof?

No. It shows what’s on the outside. The underside tells us things the drone cannot, so we inspect the loft space as well where access is safe.

Does the report include photographs?

Yes, plenty. Pictures sit next to the findings they show, which makes the report easy to follow.

What we’re asked to look at in Dunton Green

Height and steep pitches make close inspection risky. Tall townhouses, blocks of flats and offices are typical. A drone gets close-up views from a safe position on the ground.

Common reasons to book include:

  • Tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack
  • Coverings that have slipped high up on the roof
  • Blocked valleys and parapet gutters
  • Standing water on a flat roof

The streets around a church such as St John's Church are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if yours is one of the older homes nearby, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.

What a good roof survey covers

Why it is worth a survey now in Dunton Green

On a tall building, problems are often found only when water comes in. By then, timbers, ceilings and insulation may be wet. A drone survey finds them sooner. Where a roof is exposed, as many are in small places like Dunton Green, driving rain gets into any weakness, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.

For landlords and managing agents

Businesses and commercial landlords can book us too, including offices, shops and units. Bigger roofs take more time.

Where a roof is shared: we need access agreed with the building owner or managing agent. Mention it when you get in touch and we will plan the visit with that in mind.

What a drone roof survey looks like in Dunton Green

Handmade clay tiles, including Kent peg tiles hung on pegs through two holes, are typical of older Kent buildings. You will also find oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses among the county’s older buildings. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from ground level, drone photos and thermal images add detail. The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight.

With Knole House about 2.5 miles south-east, the area around Dunton Green has a long history. A drone or thermal survey doesn’t involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings.

How the survey changes by roof type

Ridges and hips

Ridges may be bedded in mortar or mechanically fixed. Their condition is noted in the report.

Large commercial roofs

Fragile roof sheets and roof lights can be dangerous to walk on. A drone keeps everyone off them.

How it works

We photograph the roof as we go, so you can see in the report what we found and where. We take close-ups from wherever is safe. Most surveys take an hour or two for a house, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. Rural addresses near Dunton Green can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions are welcome. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.

  1. We start by checking the airspace and any restrictions at your address.
  2. If permission is needed, we ask for it before the visit.
  3. Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
  4. The drone captures close-up photos of the coverings, chimneys, valleys and gutters.
  5. You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.

Before the survey
