Drone roof survey in Riverhead
Drones need reasonable weather. We don’t fly in strong wind or heavy rain, because control and safety come first. If the day turns out unsuitable, we will talk about another date or inspect what we can by other means. The forecast is checked ahead of the visit and again on the day. Light wind and dry weather give the clearest close-up photos. A short delay is better than a rushed flight. If you’re worried about loose ridge and hip tiles and damage after a storm that can’t be seen from below, we can find out what’s behind it.
Places like Riverhead can be near small airfields or other airspace restrictions, so every drone flight starts with a check of the Drone Safety Map. Open ground can mean stronger wind, which also affects whether a small drone can fly. Neighbours’ privacy is part of planning each flight, along with the airspace and the weather.
You can share the report with anyone who needs it: your solicitor, the seller, your insurer, a roofer or the building’s managing agent, whichever applies.

Rented homes, blocks and businesses
Freeholders and residents’ companies use a roof report to plan and budget, putting the urgent items at the top.
We also survey roofs for businesses and commercial landlords. Larger roofs take longer, so they’re priced to suit.
What we look for on each type of roof
Steep slate and tile slopes
Steep roofs are risky to walk on. A drone photographs them closely from a safe position.
Flat roofs on tall buildings
Leaks frequently start at outlets, edges and around plant. They’re all captured in close-up.
Before and after the survey
Most of what helps is simple and safe from the ground. A few suggestions:
- Expect us to rearrange if it’s too windy or wet
- Expect a little longer if permission is needed
- Give us the full address so we can check the airspace
- Tell next door if the drone will be near their property
We email the report to you, with close-up photos from the flight. Each finding is explained in plain words, with recommendations prioritised by urgency where relevant.
Do not block the vents at the eaves. Condensation in the loft can damage timbers and insulation, and it is something only an inside check will show. Keep insulation clear of the eaves.
DIY checks: what’s safe
Your own check is a good start, but it isn’t a survey. You won’t see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
You can learn a lot from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Never climb onto the roof to look.
Flying and imaging in Riverhead
Many older homes in Kent have handmade clay tiles, including Kent peg tiles held by pegs through two holes, and tile-hanging on their upper walls. Kent’s older buildings take in oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses as well. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up photos from the air and thermal images help. We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight.
The streets around a church like Church of St Mary are often among the oldest in a place, and if your home is one of the older ones nearby, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Amherst School, big roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images show the most at once. With Knole House about 2 miles south-east, the area around Riverhead has a long history. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from the ground, and a survey from the air or with a thermal camera does not touch the roof itself.

FAQs for Riverhead
Is my home in Riverhead listed or in a conservation area?
We can’t confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case.
Is Riverhead within the area you cover?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our area covers London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.
What’s the best way to book?
Just phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address. We’ll ask a few questions, confirm the price and agree a date, weekday or weekend.
How long does a drone roof survey take?
The visit usually takes about one to two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. We’ll give you an idea of timing as you book.
How much does a drone roof survey cost in Riverhead?
Our price is from £400, including VAT. You will know the exact price before booking. For a price, call 07833 053749 or send us an email.
Will you walk on the roof?
Only if it is safe. We inspect whatever is safely visible: from ground level, from windows, from inside the loft space, from the roof where it’s safe and by drone where applicable. The report says if anything couldn’t be seen.
Do I have to be there for the survey?
Not necessarily. An outside-only look can be arranged beforehand, but the loft and any rooms with damp need someone to let us in.
The survey, step by step
The aim of the visit is simple: to see as much of the roof as can safely be seen and record it clearly. Everything we note and photograph goes into the written report. The visit typically takes about one to two hours at a typical home, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. A visit to Riverhead is planned like any other: the time, the access and where to park are agreed in advance. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays. Tell us about any garages, outbuildings or extensions you want included.
- First, we check whether a drone is the right tool.
- A date is fixed, with a fallback in case the weather turns.
- Aerial photos are taken of your roof only, not the neighbours’.
- We also look inside the roof space where it is safe.
- Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.
How to prepare
- Let us know where we can park nearby
- Jot down any questions you want answered
- Leave a clear route to the loft
How to book
If you have photos of the roof, send them over. Pictures from ground level or a window are fine; never climb up to get a better view. To get started, phone 07833 053749 or email us.
