Drone roof survey in Fairfield

Some roofs are hard or unsafe to reach. Our drone roof survey gets a camera close to them without anyone climbing. It shows coverings, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters clearly. The photos go into a written report. It also suits roofs that would be damaged by someone walking on them. If we can’t fly, we tell you why. We are often asked to look into lead work pulling away at abutments and slates or tiles shifted by high winds, on large and complex roofs, chimney stacks and valleys and parapet gutters.

In a village or hamlet like Fairfield, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what cannot be reached safely. Weather and airspace are looked at before the visit, and the journey is planned in advance. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.

It isn’t only a list of defects. For each finding, it explains what it is, why it matters and what we’d recommend.

What a drone roof survey does not cover

Before booking, it’s worth knowing what a survey won’t do:

  • Anything inside the loft or under the coverings
  • Flights in strong wind or a downpour
  • Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey

If you’re not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will give you a straight answer before booking. What a survey covers and does not.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Chimney stacks
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Fragile roofs

How the survey works

The visit usually starts outside and finishes in the loft: first the slopes, edges and gutters from every safe viewpoint, then the roof space where it can be reached. All told, expect about 1–2 hours for most houses, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. Around Fairfield, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so let us know about the loft hatch and any ladder. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.

  1. You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
  2. If permission is needed, we ask for it before the visit.
  3. We assess the wind, the weather and the surroundings before take-off.
  4. The sub-250g drone takes close-up photos of the roof, kept in sight throughout.
  5. Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos and recommendations.

Preparing for the visit

What a drone roof survey looks like in Fairfield

The wider area around Fairfield has a long history of building, with Hinxworth Place about 3.7 miles north-east. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons.

Take a building like Fairfield Park Lower School: thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.

Fairfield is about 1 mile south-west of Stotfold, in Hertfordshire. In Fairfield, as across Hertfordshire, every roof gets the same careful survey. We cover towns and villages across Hertfordshire, large and small. You can also see our page for Milton Keynes.

Surveys in SG5 and SG6 work the same way as everywhere else we cover. Local streets include Darwin Lane, Connelly Lane and Bronte Avenue. Neighbouring places we cover for drone roof surveys include Stotfold (1 mile north-east), Radwell (2 miles east), Stotfold Common (2 miles north-east) and Astwick (2 miles north). We also work in nearby towns such as Stevenage (7 miles south-east), Welwyn Garden City (14 miles south), Harpenden (13 miles south), Hitchin (4 miles south), Baldock (3 miles east) and Benslow (4 miles south).

What we look for on each type of roof

Ridges and hips

Wind lifts loose ridge and hip tiles. Finding them early keeps them from coming down.

Large commercial roofs

Many commercial roofs have fragile sheets or roof lights. A drone keeps everyone off them.

What affects the price in Fairfield

We confirm the exact price before booking. These are the things that affect it:

  • How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
  • How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
  • Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
  • Any need for thermal images or a drone flight

Every price we give includes VAT, and the report is not charged as an extra. Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. Where your roof sits in the range depends on its size, height and access.

What to let us know when you contact us

There is no need for technical words. It’s enough to tell us:

  • Any marks or damp showing indoors
  • How the loft is reached, if there is one
  • Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
  • The kind of building and roof involved

Booking is simple: just phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email, let us know about the property and we’ll explain which survey suits. The price is agreed up front.

Rented homes, blocks and businesses

FAQs for Fairfield

How do I find out if my home in Fairfield is listed?

Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case.

Will you come out to Fairfield?

Yes, Fairfield is covered. We cover the whole of London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

What does a roof survey cost?

Prices start from £400, including VAT. Our three packages are Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, with VAT included.

Can the drone do thermal imaging?

The drone survey is a photographic inspection. Thermal imaging is carried out separately, and it’s part of the Premium Survey.

Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?

No. Asbestos surveys and sampling are not something we do. Where a material might contain it, such as old cement sheets on a building from before 2000, the report flags it, with a recommendation to have a specialist asbestos surveyor check before it’s disturbed.

Do you survey on Saturdays and Sundays?

Surveys run on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. To arrange a date, phone 07833 053749 or email us.

Are there drone restrictions in central London?

It depends where in central London. Restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs need NATS permission before a flight. We check each address first, and fall back on other viewpoints if we can’t fly.

Do you need a drone roof survey in Fairfield?

From the pavement, most of a tall roof is out of sight. You can’t see the back slope, the valleys or the chimney tops. Problems in those places often go unseen until they leak.

It is worth booking a survey if you’ve seen:

  • Worn lead at chimneys and walls
  • Hidden gutters full of leaves
  • Vegetation in valleys and gutters
  • Wind damage high on the roof

For an older house near a landmark such as St Thomas' Church, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help.

What to check before booking

  • Are they insured for the work?
  • Their report turnaround times
  • Will they check the loft as well as the outside?
  • How much experience they have with roofs like yours
