Drone roof surveys in Finglesham

How a drone roof survey works in Finglesham

We fly a sub-250g drone, and we’re a CAA-registered drone operator, with a Flyer ID and an Operator ID. We keep it in sight throughout, and well below the 120-metre height limit. Each flight is planned with the site and its surroundings in mind. Airspace and weather are checked before every flight. We never fly where it isn’t safe. We survey chimney stacks, tall and steep roofs and large and complex roofs, and people most frequently book us about cracked mortar along the ridge and outlets choked with leaves and silt.

Some older homes in villages like Finglesham are listed or in a conservation area. A look from the air or with a thermal camera doesn’t touch the roof, so it is a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.

If any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely, we say so in the report. You will know exactly what was inspected and what wasn’t, and what we’d suggest next.

Common questions in Finglesham

Is Finglesham within the area you cover?

Yes. Finglesham is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work right across London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when booking.

How do I find out if my home in Finglesham is listed?

For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. It matters most if you’re planning to re-roof in a different material.

How do I book a survey in Finglesham?

Just ring 07833 053749 or email us. We’ll ask a few questions, confirm the price and agree a date, weekday or weekend.

Is it a structural engineer’s report?

No. We note visible signs such as sagging or deflection, but we are not structural engineers and do not carry out calculations. If we think you need an engineer, the report says so.

How long will you be at the property?

On site, it usually takes between one and two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Time for the pre-flight checks is included.

Is this an asbestos survey?

No. Asbestos surveys and testing are not part of what we do. If we see materials that could contain asbestos, such as cement roof sheets or soffits on buildings from before 2000, we flag them, and recommend a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before they’re disturbed.

Can you survey a shared roof?

Yes. Shared roofs just need a little more planning. Let us know about it when booking and we’ll explain what’s needed.

Landlords, agents and block managers in Finglesham

We survey roofs for landlords and agents as well as homeowners. The report gives you a dated record of the roof, with photos, useful for planning maintenance.

Any of our surveys can be booked by landlords, agents and building managers in Finglesham. For a price for a let property or a block, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email.

Do you need a drone roof survey in Finglesham?

Parapet gutters, box gutters and central valleys sit out of sight. Debris collects where nobody looks, until it causes a leak inside. A drone shows them clearly from above.

Look out for signs like these:

  • Debris building up in hidden gutters
  • Blistered or cracked flat roof coverings
  • Loose ridge and hip tiles
  • Coverings that have slipped high up on the roof

Historic houses such as Walmer Castle, about 3.4 miles south-east, show how far back building around Finglesham goes. Photos from the air and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it.

Before booking any roof surveyor

  • Which parts of the roof they’ll actually see
  • Whether the loft is part of the inspection
  • Which limits apply to the survey
  • How long the report takes to arrive

What a good roof survey covers

What we do, step by step

There isn’t much for you to do on the day. Show us any stains, drips or problem areas you know about, and we’ll take it from there. The survey itself takes an hour or two at most homes, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. Around Finglesham, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so it’s useful to know whether there is a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. We only go where it is safe.

  1. You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
  2. Where a flight restriction zone or restricted area applies, we seek permission first.
  3. On the day, we check the weather and the site before flying.
  4. The sub-250g drone takes close-up photographs of the roof, kept in sight throughout.
  5. We email a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Show us where any leaks or stains appear
  • Dig out any old roof reports or invoices
  • Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller

What a drone roof survey looks like in Finglesham

Finglesham lies within about 3 miles of the sea, and wind near the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone cannot fly safely in high wind or heavy rain. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions.

If you look after a building like Northbourne Church of England Primary School, big roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images show the most at once. For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St George, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof frequently shows up clearly on a thermal image.

Finglesham is about 2 miles north-west of Deal, in Kent. Whether the building in Finglesham is a house, a flat or a commercial unit, the roof can be surveyed. Our area takes in places right across Kent. We also survey roofs in Canterbury.

What we cannot see

It’s a careful look at the roof, not the whole story. Its limits include:

  • Flights in high wind or heavy rain
  • Whether the roof structure meets design loads
  • Roofs and gardens beyond the one we’re surveying

If you are not sure which survey you need, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking. What our survey covers.

What this survey covers

  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Chimney stacks
  • Fragile roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors

Should I look at the roof myself first?

Look up at the roof after a storm, from the ground: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Don’t go up yourself.

Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.

Useful tips for Finglesham property owners

Nothing here needs a ladder. Our suggestions:

  • Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too
  • Check there’s room outside for the drone to take off
  • Expect a little longer if permission is needed
  • Allow for a change of day in poor weather

We email the report to you, including the close-up photos taken by the drone. Findings are set out in plain English, with recommendations prioritised by urgency where relevant.

Check the loft now and then, with care and a good torch. A drone sees the outside, but the loft shows leaks and condensation from below. Photograph anything new.
