How a drone roof survey works in Foscot

Some roofs are hard or unsafe to reach. Our drone roof survey gets a camera close to them without anyone climbing. You see slates, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters in detail. The photos go into a written report. It’s also a good option where walking on the roof could break slates or tiles. Where a flight isn’t possible, we explain why. If you’ve noticed coverings that have slipped high up on the roof and worn lead at chimneys and walls, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.

Some older homes in villages like Foscot are listed or in a conservation area. A look by drone or thermal camera doesn’t touch the roof, so it is a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof, before anyone decides what work it needs. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.

The Standard Survey adds moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

Practical tips

Some practical points come up on survey after survey. They apply to most roofs:

  • Allow for a change of day in poor weather
  • Book early if you’re near an airport
  • Make sure there is room outside for the drone to take off
  • Tell us about any leaks or concerns

We email the report to you, with close-up photos from the flight. Each finding is explained in plain words, and recommendations are ranked by urgency where that helps.

Plan a drone survey every few years for tall or large roofs. Regular photos make changes easy to spot, so small faults are dealt with early.

What this survey can’t tell you

Our survey is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:

  • Whether the roof structure meets design loads
  • The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
  • A flight on a day when the weather is not safe

If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will point you to the right survey. What our survey covers.

What we check

  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Fragile roofs
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Chimney stacks

Prices for drone roof surveys in Foscot

A few things affect what a survey costs:

  • Height and safe access
  • Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
  • How big the roof is
  • Which survey package you book

To find out what your survey will cost, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and let us know about the roof. The price is agreed before a date is set.

What we need to know

To price your survey accurately, we’ll ask about:

  • Dates you’re working to, like exchange
  • The kind of building and roof involved
  • Photos of the roof, taken safely from ground level or a window
  • Anything about access we should know

Every survey is priced before it’s booked, so you know the cost up front. Our price is from £400, including VAT. To book, phone 07833 053749 or email us.

How the survey changes by roof type

Chimney stacks

Leaning stacks and loose pots are easier to judge from above. Each defect is photographed for the report.

Valleys and parapet gutters

Valleys and parapet gutters are hidden from the street. A drone shows linings, joints and build-ups of debris.

Leave it or get it looked at?

Small defects on a high roof grow with each storm. Spotting them early keeps the work smaller. In a place like Foscot, a barn or garage roof left to fail puts whatever is inside at risk. It is worth including them in a survey before a winter does the damage.

Prices quoted always include VAT, and the report isn’t charged as an extra. Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. Where your roof sits in the range depends on its size, height and access.

How it works

A survey visit follows a simple order: we listen to what’s been worrying you, look at the roof from every safe viewpoint, photograph what we find and record our findings for the written report. It usually takes an hour or two at most homes, and longer for a large or complex roof. In a small place like Foscot, access is usually the main thing to plan. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Weekday and weekend visits are available.

  1. First, we check whether a drone is the right tool.
  2. A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
  3. Aerial photos are taken of your roof only, not the neighbours’.
  4. If the loft can be reached safely, it is checked too.
  5. You get photos, findings and clear recommendations.

Before the survey

  • Move anything stored under the loft hatch
  • Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand
  • Tell us about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of

Getting a price

Most bookings start with a short call: ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form, and we will ask about the building and what you need. You’ll have a price before anything is arranged.

Advice

FAQs for Foscot

Is my home in Foscot listed or in a conservation area?

Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.

Is drone flying allowed in Foscot?

That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. High wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.

Is it a structural engineer’s report?

No. Visible signs like deflection or sagging are recorded, but we don’t provide calculations or an engineer’s opinion. The report will say if you need an engineer.

Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?

No. We don’t carry out asbestos surveys or testing. We flag materials that could contain asbestos, such as cement sheets or soffits on pre-2000 buildings and suggest a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before any work.

What’s in the report?

It sets out what we found, why it matters and what we recommend, with photos throughout. It also says if any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely, so you know exactly what was covered.

What happens after the survey?

We email you the written report with photos and recommendations. You can use it to talk to a seller, an insurer, a roofer or a managing agent, whichever applies.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

We carry out surveys on any day of the week. To find a day that suits you, call 07833 053749 or send us an email.

What a drone roof survey looks like in Foscot

Cotswold stone slates are found on older buildings in west Oxfordshire, and thatch survives in some of the county’s villages. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. Steep or complicated roofs are often hard to see from ground level, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help. Chastleton House, about 4.4 miles north, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Foscot. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area.

Anyone responsible for a site like Bledington Primary School will know that a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it. For an older house near a landmark like Church of St Leonard, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.
