Drone roof survey in Little Barrington: what you get
Tall, steep, large or fragile roofs can’t always be inspected up close. Our drone roof survey gets a camera close to them without anyone climbing. You see slates, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters in detail. The photos go into a written report. It is also a good option where walking on the roof could break slates or tiles. Where a flight is not possible, we explain why. Common reasons to book are storm damage on steep or tall roofs and loose ridge and hip tiles, on valleys and parapet gutters, chimney stacks and tall and steep roofs.
Older buildings in small places like Little Barrington may be listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, so it is a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof, before anyone decides what work it needs. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.
What you get is a clear record of the roof on the day we saw it. It’s useful right away, and a good reference for later, for instance when you want to check whether anything has changed.

How the survey changes by roof type
Chimney stacks
Chimney tops are hard to see from ground level. A drone gets close to the pots, flaunching, pointing and flashings, so cracks and gaps are clear.
Large commercial roofs
Cement sheet roofs on buildings from before 2000 may contain asbestos. We flag it in the report so a specialist asbestos surveyor can check.

Why get it checked now?
On a tall building, problems are often found only when water comes in. By that stage the damage has spread inside. A drone survey finds them sooner. For older village homes like those around Little Barrington, the right replacement materials aren’t always easy to find quickly. Spotting a problem early leaves room to find them.

Common questions in Little Barrington
Is Little Barrington within the area you cover?
We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one.
Is drone flying allowed in Little Barrington?
The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain.
Do you need to get into the loft?
If there’s a loft and safe access to it, yes. The roof space can show things the outside cannot, like damp timbers, staining or daylight.
What’s in the report?
A written report with photos, covering the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend. Standard adds moisture detection and a structural check; Premium adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable and structural analysis.
Does the report include photos?
Yes. We photograph the roof as we go, and they go into the written report.
Can you survey a shared roof?
Yes, as long as access is agreed. Roofs over flats are often shared, so we need permission from the freeholder or managing agent. We inspect only the parts we are allowed to reach.
Do you test for asbestos?
No. We don’t sample or test for asbestos. Where a material might contain it, such as old cement sheets on a building from before 2000, the report flags it.
What a drone roof survey doesn’t cover
Our survey isn’t a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:
- Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
- Structural calculations (that’s a structural engineer’s job)
- Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will tell you. What our survey covers.

What a drone roof survey looks like in Little Barrington
Cotswold stone slates are found on older buildings in west Oxfordshire, and thatch survives in some of the county’s villages. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons.
Anyone responsible for a site like Burford School will know that big roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images show the most at once. If you live in an older home near Church of St Peter, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.

Before and after the survey
Here are a few things we’d tell any owner, before and after a survey:
- Book early if you are near an airport
- Be ready to move the date if the weather turns
- Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
- Let us know what you want to see
With the Premium Survey, the report arrives the same day. Drone photographs are included where we could fly.
Have high or hard-to-reach roofs surveyed every few years. Regular photos make changes easy to spot, and early repairs keep water out.
What affects the price in Little Barrington
What a survey costs depends on the time and equipment it needs. The main factors are:
- How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
- House, block, shop or office
- The size of the roof
- How many separate roofs there are, like extensions, dormers and garages
One thing that affects the price is the package: from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, including VAT. Size, height and access can affect the price too.
Getting in touch
We will normally ask about:
- Dates you are working to, such as exchange
- Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
- Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof
- The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat
If you are buying, it helps to book soon after your offer is accepted, so you have the findings in time to act on them before you exchange. For any other survey, just phone 07833 053749 or email us when you’re ready.
The survey, step by step
On the day, we start by asking what you’ve noticed and what you need to know. After that, we check everything we can see safely, from ground level, from windows, in the loft space and by drone where it applies. Most surveys take about 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. In a hamlet or village like Little Barrington, a postcode does not always lead to the right gate, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.
- First comes the address, plus a note of what worries you about the roof.
- Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
- Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are checked.
- Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
- You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.
Before the survey
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- Move anything stored under the loft hatch
- Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller
