  • Flights in strong wind or heavy rain

Drone roof survey in Four Marks: what you get

They suit tall buildings, steep or large roofs and roofs that are hard to see from ground level. They’re useful where walking on the roof could damage it or is not safe. The roof is photographed without being disturbed. Before the visit, we check the address for any airspace restrictions that apply. We’ll tell you if another approach would work better. Typical surveys look at ponding and splits on a high flat roof and coverings that have slipped high up on the roof, across tall and steep roofs, chimney stacks and valleys and parapet gutters.

Places like Four Marks can be near small airfields or other airspace restrictions, so every drone flight starts with a check of the Drone Safety Map. Exposed sites can be windy, and a small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind. Neighbours’ privacy is part of planning each flight, along with the airspace and the weather.

If any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely, we say so in the report. You’ll know exactly what was inspected and what wasn’t, and what we’d suggest next.

What we do, step by step

Once we’ve finished looking, we write up our findings as a report with photos. On timing, most surveys take roughly 1–2 hours on an ordinary house, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. A visit to Four Marks is planned like any other: the time, the access and where to park are agreed in advance. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays. Tell us about any garages, outbuildings or extensions you want included.

  1. We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
  2. Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
  3. We assess the conditions and the take-off spot first.
  4. The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
  5. The findings, photos and recommendations reach you by email.

Advice

How the survey changes by roof type

Large commercial roofs

Big roofs on offices, warehouses and units take time to inspect. The drone covers the roof area by area.

Ridges and hips

Some ridges are fixed with mortar, others with dry-fix systems. Their condition is noted in the report.

Four Marks: your questions answered

Is Four Marks within the area you cover?

Yes, we do. We survey roofs across London and the South East, from towns to the smallest villages. Longer journeys are simply planned beforehand.

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Four Marks?

That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

What insurance do you have?

Professional indemnity and public liability insurance cover our surveys. If you need details for a managing agent or a building owner, just ask.

Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?

No. Asbestos surveys and sampling are not something we do. The report may flag materials that could contain asbestos on buildings built or refurbished before 2000, with a recommendation to have a specialist asbestos surveyor check before it is disturbed.

How long will you be at the property?

Most surveys take about one to two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. We will confirm the timing when you book.

What’s the best way to book?

Just phone 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address. We’ll ask a few questions, confirm the price and agree a date, weekday or weekend.

Can you survey in bad weather?

Some surveys depend on the weather more than others. Drones can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, and thermal imaging works best after a sunny day, with a dry roof and little wind. If the conditions are not right, we’ll talk to you about another date.

Before and after the survey

Most of what helps is simple and safe from the ground. A few suggestions:

  • Be ready to move the date if the weather turns
  • Book early if you’re near an airport
  • Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too
  • Clear a spot on the drive or lawn

With the Premium Survey, the report arrives the same day. Drone photographs are included where we could fly.

Check the loft now and then, with care and a good torch. The underside frequently shows problems before the outside does. Photograph anything new.

Do you need a drone roof survey in Four Marks?

From the pavement, most of a tall roof is out of sight. You can’t see the back slope, the valleys or the chimney tops. Problems in those places frequently go unseen until they leak.

Common reasons to book include:

  • Blocked valleys and parapet gutters
  • Moss and weeds taking hold up top
  • Storm damage on steep or tall roofs
  • Gaps where slates or tiles have gone

If you look after a building like Four Marks Church of England Primary School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

  • Which limits apply to the survey
  • If they fly a drone, whether they hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
  • What experience they bring

What a good roof survey covers

Drone roof surveys around Four Marks

Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. Steep or complicated roofs are often hard to see from the ground, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help. We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times.

If you live in an older home near Church of the Good Shepherd, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement. With Bentworth Hall about 2.7 miles north, the area around Four Marks has a long history. A drone or thermal survey does not involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings.
