Your questions about drone roof surveys in New Copse
Is New Copse within the area you cover?
Yes, we do. We survey roofs across London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. The journey is planned ahead, so it’s useful to know about access.
How do I find out if my home in New Copse is listed?
Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.
Do you test for asbestos?
No. Our report may flag materials that could contain asbestos, but confirming it is a job for a specialist asbestos surveyor. Buildings built or refurbished before 2000 may contain it.
Will the drone show what’s under the tiles?
No. It photographs the outside, not the inside. The roof space is checked separately, where there’s safe access.
Can you fly a drone in central London?
Parts of central London are restricted, including areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs, where flights need permission from NATS. We check before every flight and seek permission where needed.
How long have you been surveying roofs?
More than 5,000 surveys over 20+ years, across London and South East England.
How do I arrange a drone roof survey in New Copse?

How a drone roof survey works in New Copse
We fly a sub-250g drone, and we’re a CAA-registered drone operator, with a Flyer ID and an Operator ID. It stays within sight for the whole flight, and well below the 120-metre height limit. Every flight is planned around the roof, the site and the people nearby. Before every flight, we check the airspace and the weather. Safety comes first on every visit. We survey fragile roofs, large and complex roofs and chimney stacks, and the problems we are asked to look at most are vegetation in valleys and gutters and cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots.
Older buildings in small places like New Copse may be listed or in a conservation area. A look from above or with a thermal imager doesn’t touch the roof, so it’s a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.
It is not only a list of defects. It explains what we found, why it matters and what we recommend, so you can decide what to do next.

Useful tips for New Copse property owners
A few practical points come up again and again on our surveys. They’re worth knowing whatever the roof:
- Let us know the exact address as you book
- Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too
- Let us know about any leaks or concerns
- Allow for a change of day in poor weather
You get an in-person consultation with the Premium Survey to go through what the drone showed. You can ask about anything that is not clear.
After a storm, check from the garden and the street. Pieces of slate or tile on the ground mean something has moved. A drone can show exactly what has moved.

What this survey cannot tell you
To be straight with you, a roof survey has limits:
- The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
- A flight on a day when the weather is not safe
- Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or email us and we will point you to the right survey before booking. The full list of what we check.
Roof types and parts we check
- Large and complex roofs
- Flat roofs on upper floors
- Tall and steep roofs
- Chimney stacks
- Fragile roofs
- Valleys and parapet gutters
Can I check my roof myself?
A lot can be seen from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please do not climb up for a closer look.
What you cannot do safely is get up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and a fall can be serious. That part is for a survey.
What happens on the day
Time on site depends on the size and shape of the roof; as a rough guide, the survey takes an hour or two for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. You are welcome to ask questions while we’re there. Somewhere like New Copse needs a little journey planning: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. On the day, we inspect what can be seen safely, inside and out.
- We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
- Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
- On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
- We fly the sub-250g drone close to the roof and photograph each area.
- The findings, photos and recommendations reach you by email.
Before the survey
- Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
- Agree roof access with the managing agent if it is shared
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street

Advice
Why act early in New Copse
Small defects on a high roof grow with each storm. Spotting them early keeps the work smaller. Matching old materials, such as handmade tiles or stone slates, can take time to source. Spotting a problem early leaves room to find them.
We offer three survey packages: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, all with VAT included. What your roof costs depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.

Airspace, weather and New Copse roofs
About 0.9 miles north-east lies Bentworth Hall, a reminder of how long the area around New Copse has been built on. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons.
The streets around a church such as Church of St Andrew are often among the oldest in a place, and if your home is one of the older ones nearby, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that is where a view from the air or with a thermal camera helps. Anyone responsible for a site like Medstead Church of England Primary School will know that a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.
