Drone roof survey in Freefolk: what you get
Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. The Premium Survey includes a drone inspection where it applies, along with structural analysis, a same-day report and an in-person consultation. It also includes a follow-up after 12 months. If a drone won’t help on your roof, we’ll say so. Every drone survey comes with a written report and close-up photos. We survey fragile roofs, valleys and parapet gutters and tall and steep roofs, and people most often book us about wind damage high on the roof and loose ridge and hip tiles.
Some older homes in villages like Freefolk are listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care, before anyone decides what work it needs. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.
We keep jargon out of it: where something needs attention, it says so plainly, along with how urgent it is.

Your questions about drone roof surveys in Freefolk
Is drone flying allowed in Freefolk?
The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.
Is my home in Freefolk listed or in a conservation area?
Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. It matters most if you’re planning to re-roof in a different material.
Is this a RICS survey?
No. It is a specialist roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 building survey. It focuses on the roof and can sit alongside a RICS survey.
Do you cover Freefolk?
Yes. We cover Freefolk and the rest of Hampshire. For a price, phone 07833 053749 or email us.
When does the report arrive?
Each package has its own report time. Basic is within 48 hours, Standard is 24–48 hours and Premium is the same day. Mention any deadline when you book.
Will you photograph what you find?
Yes. Photographs are part of every report.
How much does a drone roof survey cost in Freefolk?
Prices start from £400, including VAT. What you pay for your roof depends on its size, height, access and the package, confirmed before anything is booked.
Should I look at the roof myself first?
Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.
Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. From the ground, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
What affects the cost of drone roof surveys
To price your survey, we look at:
- The shape of the roof and its details
- Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
- Height and safe access
- The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
Every price we give includes VAT. Our price is from £400, including VAT. We confirm the price for your survey before booking.
Helping us price your survey
Getting the details right at the start saves time. Please include:
- The reason for the survey, such as buying, a leak or storm damage
- When you need the report by
- Anything about access we should know
- The kind of building and roof involved
We confirm the exact price before you book, so you know the cost up front. Prices start from £400, including VAT. For a price for your roof, call 07833 053749 or send us an email.
The survey, step by step
On the day, we start by asking what you’ve noticed and what you’d like to know. After that, we check everything we can see safely, using the ground, windows, the loft and a drone where applicable. Most surveys take roughly 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Somewhere like Freefolk needs a little journey planning: let us know about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. The roof is looked at from ground level, from windows, from the loft where there’s safe access and from the roof where it is safe.
- We confirm whether a drone suits your roof.
- A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
- We fly over the roof, keeping the camera on the property we are surveying.
- We also look inside the loft space where it is safe.
- You get photos, findings and clear recommendations.
Before the survey
- Find any records of previous roof work
- Keep pets in another room
- Let us know about parking before the day

Practical tips
Over many surveys, some simple habits stand out:
- Give us the full address so we can check the airspace
- Mention anything you’ve noticed on the roof
- Clear a spot on the drive or lawn
- Keep dogs indoors during the visit
If you need work done, roofers can work from the photos. They’ll see exactly where each defect is, so their quotes cover the same ground.
Do not block the vents at the eaves. Poor airflow lets condensation build up. Keep insulation clear of the eaves.
Rented homes, blocks and businesses
Businesses and commercial landlords can book us too. Bigger roofs take more time, and they’re priced for the size.
If the property is let, the agent or a tenant can let us in, at a time agreed in advance. Surveys run seven days a week, which can make access easier.

Drone roof surveys around Freefolk
The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight. A number of Hampshire villages keep thatched roofs on their older buildings. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these.
The streets around a church such as Church of St Mary the Virgin are often among the oldest in a place, and if your home is one of the older ones nearby, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement. Anyone responsible for a site like Testbourne Community School will know that thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.

Every survey has limits, and it’s better to know them up front. Bear these in mind:
