Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Guston
Some roofs are hard or unsafe to reach. Our drone roof survey gets a camera close to them without anyone climbing. It shows coverings, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters clearly, including slopes that can’t be seen from the street. The photos go into a written report. It also suits roofs that would be damaged by someone walking on them. Where a flight isn’t possible, we explain why. If you’ve noticed slates or tiles shifted by high winds and ponding and splits on a high flat roof, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on large and complex roofs, fragile roofs and tall and steep roofs alike.
In a village or hamlet like Guston, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what cannot be reached safely. Weather and airspace are checked before the visit. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.
It is not only a list of defects. For each finding, it explains what it is, why it matters and what we’d recommend, so you can plan your next steps.

What happens if roof problems are left?
With drone photos, everyone can see the same thing. You can show exactly where the problem is, which helps when you ask for quotes. Where a roof is exposed, as many are in small places like Guston, driving rain gets into any weakness, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.
Simple, low roofs take less time to survey than tall or complicated ones, and the package matters as well. The price is always agreed first.

Common roof problems in Guston
After storms, owners want to know what has moved. Damage on a high or steep roof is hard to judge from the garden. A drone shows what has slipped, lifted or gone.
We are frequently asked to look at:
- Worn lead at chimneys and walls
- Debris building up in hidden gutters
- Loose ridge and hip tiles
- Vegetation in valleys and gutters
Take an older house close to Church of St Martin of Tours: older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.
Choosing a roof surveyor
- Whether you can ask questions once you have the report
- Their insurance cover
- What experience they bring
- Whether the loft space is looked at, where there is one
What this survey can’t tell you
Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, and that sets some limits:
- Roofs and gardens beyond the one we are surveying
- Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
- A structural engineer’s report
If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll suggest the right survey before booking. What our survey covers.

DIY checks: what’s safe
A DIY look is useful, but it isn’t a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground.
You can learn a lot from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please do not climb up for a closer look.
Guston: your questions answered
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Guston?
For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.
Will you come out to Guston?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work right across London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when booking.
How do I arrange a drone roof survey in Guston?
It is easiest to phone 07833 053749 or email us. Tell us the address and a little about the roof. We survey on any day of the week.
How many surveys have you done?
Over 20 years and more than 5,000 surveys, across London and South East England.
What do I do with the report?
We email you the written report with photographs and recommendations. You can use it to talk to a seller, an insurer, a roofer or a managing agent, whichever applies.
How much is a survey?
Our price is from £400, including VAT. We confirm the price for your roof before you book, and it depends on the roof’s size, access and the package you choose. To get a price, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email.
Does the weather affect a drone survey?
Strong wind or a downpour stops a flight. The weather on the day decides whether the drone goes up. If we cannot fly, we will arrange another day.

Different roofs, different checks
Steep slate and tile slopes
Steep roofs are risky to walk on. A drone photographs them closely from a safe position.
Valleys and parapet gutters
Valleys and parapet gutters are hidden from the street. A drone shows linings, joints and build-ups of debris.
The survey, step by step
Safety comes first on every visit. We inspect whatever is safely visible, and anything we cannot see is noted in the report. The survey normally takes an hour or two for a house; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. Around Guston, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so it helps to know whether there’s a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.
- We confirm whether a drone suits your roof.
- We agree a date, including weekends, subject to the weather.
- Aerial photos are taken of your roof only, not the neighbours’.
- Where there is safe access, we check the loft as well.
- You get photos, findings and clear recommendations.
How to prepare
- Let us know about parking near the property
- For flats, check roof access has been agreed
- Jot down any questions you want answered

What a drone roof survey looks like in Guston
Guston lies within about 2 miles of the sea, and wind near the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain. Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times.
Walmer Castle, about 4.7 miles north-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Guston. Photos from the air and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it. Take a building like Duke of York's Royal Military School: big roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images show the most at once.
