Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Hastingleigh
They suit tall buildings, steep or large roofs and roofs that are hard to see from the ground. They’re useful where walking on the roof could damage it or isn’t safe, such as old slate, clay tiles or cement sheets. You get close-up views without anyone setting foot on the roof. Before the visit, we check the address for any airspace restrictions that apply. We’ll tell you if another approach would work better. Common reasons to book are hidden gutters full of leaves and storm damage on steep or tall roofs, across chimney stacks, flat roofs on upper floors and valleys and parapet gutters.
In a small place like Hastingleigh, open ground can mean strong wind. A small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.
The report is written in plain words, so you do not need to be a roofer to follow it. Each point is backed by a photo where possible, with the urgent items made clear.

What we do, step by step
Expect us to ask a few questions before we start, about the roof’s history, any leaks and past repairs. Then the inspection itself takes an hour or two for most houses, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. Older roofs in small places like Hastingleigh can have low, tight loft spaces, so let us know about the loft hatch and any ladder. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.
- We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
- A date is fixed, with a fallback in case the weather turns.
- Aerial photos are taken of your roof only, not the neighbours’.
- Where there’s safe access, we check the loft as well.
- Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.
Preparing for the visit
- Keep pets inside or away from the areas we’re looking at
- Point out any leaks or damp patches
- Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed

What we are asked to look at in Hastingleigh
Chimney tops take the worst of the weather. From ground level, you rarely see cracked flaunching or loose pots. A drone gets close enough to see them in detail.
Problems we come across often include:
- Flat roofs on upper floors that hold water
- Flashings that have come away
- Ridge and hip pieces working loose
- Moss and weeds taking hold up top
Anyone responsible for a site like Bodsham Church of England Primary School will know that thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.
Questions to ask before booking
- Their drone registration, if they fly one
- How long they’ve been surveying roofs
- Will the report include photos?
- How they’ll see the roof: from the ground, the loft, the roof or by drone
Checking the roof from the ground
Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Take a photo and write down when you saw it, as it helps a surveyor trace the cause.
You can learn a lot from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.

Tips from our surveys
These tips come from what we see on roofs every week:
- Keep a clear space in the garden or drive for take-off
- Make sure the loft can be reached
- Share the postcode so we can check for restrictions
- Tell next door if the drone will be near their property
We email the report to you, with close-up photos from the flight. Findings are set out in plain English, with recommendations prioritised by urgency where relevant.
Every so often, look in the roof space with a torch, keeping to boarded areas. A drone sees the outside, but the loft shows leaks and condensation from below. Photograph anything new.
FAQs for Hastingleigh
How do I find out if my home in Hastingleigh is listed?
We cannot confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.
Is Hastingleigh within the area you cover?
Yes, we do. We survey roofs across London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. Longer journeys are simply planned beforehand.
Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?
No. Asbestos surveys and testing are not part of what we do. We flag materials that could contain asbestos, like cement sheets or soffits on pre-2000 buildings and suggest a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before any work.
Is a drone roof survey a thermal survey?
Our drone survey is about close-up photographs. If you need thermal imaging, it’s part of the Premium Survey.
What’s the best way to book?
To book, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and tell us the address and what you’d like to know. We’ll confirm the price and agree a day with you.
Does someone need to be in?
That depends on the survey. For inside areas and the loft space, someone has to give us access, while outside access can be discussed as you book.
Does the drone show the underside of the roof?
No. It sees only the outer surfaces. Leaks, damp timbers and condensation often show first from inside, so we check the loft too where we can.
What we look for on each type of roof
Flat roofs on tall buildings
Outlets, edges and roof plant are common problem areas. They’re all captured in close-up, as far as the flight allows.
Valleys and parapet gutters
Blocked outlets in hidden gutters cause many leaks. We check outlets and photograph any build-up.
What affects the cost of drone roof surveys
Not every roof costs the same to survey, and it comes down to:
- Basic, Standard or Premium
- Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
- Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
- The height of the building and how the roof can be seen safely
A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package matters as well. The price is always agreed first.
Helping us price your survey
If you can, have these to hand when you get in touch:

Airspace, weather and Hastingleigh roofs
England has around 10,000 conservation areas and about 500,000 listed buildings. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, so the council is the place to ask. Older houses across Kent often have handmade clay or peg tiles, and many have tile-hung walls. You’ll also find oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses among the county’s older buildings. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these.
If yours is one of the older homes in the streets near Church of St Mary, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.
