Drone roof survey in Hatchet Green
Some roofs are hard or unsafe to reach. Our drone roof survey gets a camera close to them without anyone climbing. It shows coverings, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters clearly, including slopes that can’t be seen from the street. The photos go into a written report. It also suits roofs that would be damaged by someone walking on them. If we cannot fly, we tell you why. Typical surveys look at wind damage high on the roof and vegetation in valleys and gutters, across chimney stacks, fragile roofs and flat roofs on upper floors.
In a small place like Hatchet Green, open ground can mean strong wind. A small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.
What you get is a clear record of the roof on the day we saw it. It’s useful right away, and a good reference for later, such as when you want to compare after future work.

Hatchet Green questions
Will you come out to Hatchet Green?
Yes, Hatchet Green is covered. We work right across London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. Longer journeys are simply planned beforehand.
How do I find out if my home in Hatchet Green is listed?
Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Only if it is safe. We inspect what can be seen safely: from ground level, from windows and vantage points, from the roof space, from the roof itself where safe and by drone where it applies. Anything we cannot see is noted in the report.
Does this replace a RICS home survey?
No. This is a survey of the roof only, so it’s not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. It can sit alongside a RICS survey if you want both.
What happens if the weather is bad?
Strong wind or a downpour stops a flight. The weather on the day decides whether the drone goes up. If we can’t fly, we’ll arrange another day.
Is a drone roof survey a thermal survey?
The drone gives you detailed photos of the outside of the roof. Thermal imaging comes with the Premium Survey, as a separate check.
Can a drone see inside my loft?
No. A drone shows the outside surfaces of the roof in close detail, but not the loft or the underside. Where there is safe access, we check the roof space from inside.
When to book a survey in Hatchet Green
Hidden gutters and valleys are easy to overlook. Leaves, silt and plant growth build up unseen, until it causes a leak inside. A drone shows them clearly from above.
A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:
- Ridge pieces that have lifted
- Gaps where slates or tiles have gone
- Ponding and splits on a high flat roof
- Damage after a storm that can’t be seen from below
For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Mary, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.
Before booking any roof surveyor

- Their report turnaround times
- Whether you can ask questions once you have the report
- Whether the roof space is looked at, where there is one
Useful tips for Hatchet Green property owners
Most of what helps is simple and safe from ground level. Our suggestions:
- Mention anything you’ve noticed on the roof
- Move stored items away from the hatch
- Expect a little longer if permission is needed
- Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
We email the report to you, with close-up photographs from the flight. Findings are set out in plain English, and recommendations are ranked by urgency where that helps.
Keep the roof space ventilated. Condensation in the loft can damage timbers and insulation, and it is something only an inside check will show. Keep insulation clear of the eaves.
Why act early in Hatchet Green
It’s hard to plan maintenance for a roof nobody has looked at. Our report shows the condition of each area, with recommendations prioritised by urgency where relevant. That helps you put the work in order. Where a roof is exposed, as many are in small places like Hatchet Green, driving rain gets into any weakness, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.

What we look for on each type of roof
Ridges and hips
Ridges may be bedded in mortar or mechanically fixed. We record what we see of their condition.
Valleys and parapet gutters
Blocked outlets in hidden gutters cause many leaks. Outlets and any debris around them are photographed.
Landlord and commercial surveys in Hatchet Green
We survey roofs for letting agents and landlords as well as homeowners. A report with photographs gives you a clear record of the roof, which helps you plan work between tenancies.
If the property is let, the agent or a tenant can let us in. We survey on any day of the week, which helps when tenants work during the week.

How the survey works
On the day, we begin with a quick chat about the roof and anything that is worrying you. We then inspect everything that can be seen safely, from ground level, from windows, in the roof space and by drone where it applies. Most surveys take roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Somewhere as small as Hatchet Green, access is frequently the only tricky part. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Weekday and weekend visits are available.
- First, we check the address for flight restrictions.
- We arrange any permission that’s needed before we fly.
- On the day, we check the weather and the site before flying.
- The sub-250g drone takes close-up photographs of the roof, kept in sight throughout.
- Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos and recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- Jot down any questions you want answered
- Let us know about parking near the property
- If you are buying, let the agent know when we are coming
Getting a price
A quick phone call is normally the easiest start: phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email, and we will ask about the building and what you need. The price is agreed before a date is set.
Advice
What a drone roof survey looks like in Hatchet Green
With Breamore House about 2.6 miles west, Hatchet Green sits in an area with a long building history. If yours is one of the older homes, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material. Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. Older houses in the South East often have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles. Steep or complicated roofs are frequently hard to see from the ground, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.
Take a building like Hale Primary School: a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.
