Drone roof survey in Hever, Kent
We carry out drone roof surveys in Hever and the rest of Kent. We survey on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
- Plant growth and moss on the roof
- Cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below
- Flat roofs on upper floors that hold water
What you can safely check yourself
Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Overflowing water can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and falls from height are serious. That is where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.
How a drone roof survey works in Hever
A drone shows the outside of a roof very well, but it can’t see inside. Where there’s safe access, we look in the loft space too, since that’s where leaks and condensation frequently show first. Together, the two give a fuller picture. Your report shows the drone photos alongside what we saw in the loft. If there is no safe loft access, the report says so. If you’ve noticed loose ridge and hip tiles and moss and weeds taking hold up top, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on flat roofs on upper floors, large and complex roofs and fragile roofs alike.
In a village or hamlet like Hever, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you cannot get from the ground. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.
You receive the findings by email, ready to forward to whoever needs them. Basic reports come within 48 hours, Standard within 24–48 hours and Premium on the day.

Useful tips for Hever property owners
Some practical points come up on survey after survey. They apply to most roofs:
- Mention anything you’ve noticed on the roof
- Tell us the exact address as you book
- A word with neighbours beforehand helps
- Expect a little longer if permission is needed
There’s a follow-up after 12 months with the Premium Survey. It shows whether anything has moved or worn since the first visit, and whether work has done its job.
After a storm, check from the garden and the street. Debris in the garden is a sign to act on. A drone can show exactly what has moved.
Drones, thermal imaging and Hever roofs
We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight. Handmade clay tiles, including Kent peg tiles hung on pegs through two holes, are typical of older Kent buildings. Kent’s older buildings take in oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses as well. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from the ground, drone photos and thermal images add detail.
With Hever Castle about 0.4 miles north-east, the area around Hever has a long history. Photos from the air and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it. Take an older house close to Church of St Peter: tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement. For site and facilities teams at buildings like Hever Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School, big roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images show the most at once.
Hever is about 6 miles north-east of East Grinstead, in Kent. Roofs in Hever get the same thorough look as anywhere else in Kent. Hever is one of the places in Kent we cover for drone roof surveys. Our Crawley page covers surveys nearby.

When you need someone else
Our survey isn’t a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:
- Flights in a restricted zone without permission
- The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
- A flight on a day when the weather isn’t safe
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll tell you before you book. The full list of what we check.
What this survey covers
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Flat roofs on upper floors
- Fragile roofs
- Chimney stacks
- Tall and steep roofs
- Large and complex roofs
What we look for on each type of roof
Steep slate and tile slopes
Steep slopes are hard to inspect safely on foot. From the air, every course of slates or tiles can be seen.
Large commercial roofs
Older cement sheet roofs may contain asbestos. We don’t test for it, but we flag it so a specialist asbestos surveyor can check.
For landlords and managing agents

What happens on the day
The visit has one job: to see as much of the roof as can safely be seen and record it clearly. Everything we note and photograph goes into the written report. It normally takes about one to two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. In a small place like Hever, access is typically the main thing to plan. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.
- First comes the address, plus a note of what worries you about the roof.
- We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
- Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are looked at.
- The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
- You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
- Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
- Keep pets in another room
Booking a survey

Advice
Common questions in Hever
Will you come out to Hever?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our area covers London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there as you book.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Hever?
Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
Which days do you carry out surveys?
Surveys can be booked for any day of the week: weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Tell us which days suit you when you book.
Will the drone film my neighbours?
Privacy is taken seriously on every flight. We photograph your roof, not your neighbours’ property. Letting neighbours know in advance helps.
Can you fly a drone in central London?
It depends where in central London. Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs have restricted areas that need NATS permission. We check each address first, and fall back on other viewpoints if we cannot fly.
Do you test for asbestos?
No. We don’t carry out asbestos surveys or testing. We flag materials that could contain asbestos, such as cement sheets or soffits on pre-2000 buildings, and recommend a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before they’re disturbed.
What does the report include?
A report with photos, explaining the condition of the roof, any defects and our recommendations. The Standard Survey adds moisture detection and a structural check, and the Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies and structural analysis.
