What affects the cost of drone roof surveys

To price your survey, we look at:

  • Which survey package you book
  • Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details
  • Height and safe access
  • Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages

Price depends partly on the package: from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, inc. VAT. Size, height and access can affect the price too.

What we need to know

What helps most when you contact us:

  • Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
  • Your timetable, such as an exchange date
  • Where the property is, with the postcode
  • The kind of building and roof involved

Unsure which package suits your roof? The easiest way is to ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and describe the roof and why you want it surveyed. We will explain the options and the price.

Drone roof survey in Hinton Waldrist: what you get

We carry out drone roof surveys in Hinton Waldrist and across London and South East England, where the airspace and the weather allow. Flights take place on weekdays and at weekends. We check the airspace for your address before booking a flight. The report includes the drone photos and our recommendations. To ask whether a drone survey suits your roof, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address. We survey large and complex roofs, flat roofs on upper floors and fragile roofs, and common reasons people get in touch are slates or tiles shifted by high winds and cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below.

In a small place like Hinton Waldrist, open ground can mean strong wind. A small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.

It is not only a list of defects. It explains what we found, why it matters and what we recommend, so you can decide what to do next.

Different roofs, different checks

Ridges and hips

Some ridges are fixed with mortar, others with dry-fix systems. Their condition is noted in the report.

Flat roofs on tall buildings

Outlets, edges and roof plant are common problem areas. We photograph them closely, as far as the flight allows.

How the survey works

There is not much for you to do on the day. Point out anything you’ve noticed, such as stains, drips or loose pieces, and we’ll take it from there. A typical survey takes between one and two hours for a house, and more on a big or complicated roof. Older rural homes like those around Hinton Waldrist can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints.

  1. You give us the address and let us know about the roof.
  2. Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
  3. We assess the conditions and the take-off spot first.
  4. We fly the sub-250g drone close to the roof and photograph each area.
  5. We email the report with close-up photos and recommendations.

Preparing for the visit

  • Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller
  • Let us know about parking near the property
  • Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand

Hinton Waldrist questions

Is Hinton Waldrist within the area you cover?

We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house.

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Hinton Waldrist?

For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. It matters most if you’re planning to re-roof in a different material.

What’s the best way to book?

Simply phone 07833 053749 or email us with the address. We’ll ask a few questions, confirm the price and agree a date, weekday or weekend.

Will you go up on the roof?

Only where it’s safe to do so. We check everything that can safely be seen: from ground level, from windows, from inside the roof space, from the roof where it is safe and by drone where it applies. Anything we cannot see is noted in the report.

What does a roof survey cost?

Our price is from £400, including VAT. Our three packages are Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, including VAT.

Is this a RICS survey?

No. This is a survey of the roof only, so it’s not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. It can sit alongside a RICS survey if you want both.

Do you test for asbestos?

No. Asbestos surveys and testing are not part of what we do. We flag materials that could contain asbestos, such as cement sheets or soffits on pre-2000 buildings and suggest a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before any work.

Can I check my roof myself?

You can learn a lot from ground level. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please do not climb up for a closer look.

During heavy rain, look at the gutters from ground level or a window. Overflowing water can point to a blockage or a sagging run.

Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. Longworth House, about 0.4 miles north-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Hinton Waldrist. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area.

If you live in an older home near Church of St Margaret, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image. A drone record gives you a baseline. Next time, you can compare and see what has moved or worn. It is useful for planning maintenance over the years. Matching old materials, such as handmade tiles or stone slates, can take time to source. Spotting a problem early leaves room to find them.
