Why act early in Hogben's Hill

Planning roof work without seeing the roof is a gamble. You get photographs of every part we can see, with recommendations prioritised by urgency where relevant. You can tackle the urgent items first. In a place like Hogben's Hill, a barn or garage roof left to fail puts whatever is inside at risk. A quick look before winter can save a lot.

A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package you pick makes a difference too. We’ll give you the figure before anything is booked.

Why us?

  • Surveys on any day of the week
  • Over 20 years’ experience
  • Satisfaction rate of 98%

Drone roof survey in Hogben's Hill

Prices start from £400, including VAT. The Premium Survey includes a drone inspection where applicable, with a same-day report, structural analysis and an in-person consultation. There’s a 12-month follow-up as well. If a drone won’t help on your roof, we’ll say so. You get a written report with the close-up photos from the flight. We survey flat roofs on upper floors, tall and steep roofs and valleys and parapet gutters, and common reasons people get in touch are worn lead at chimneys and walls and slates or tiles shifted by high winds.

Villages like Hogben's Hill often stand in open country, where wind can be strong. Strong wind or heavy rain stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.

Pictures do a lot of the work in our reports, because a photo of a cracked flashing says more than a paragraph. If something couldn’t be seen safely, the report is clear about it.

Useful tips for Hogben's Hill property owners

Over many surveys, some simple habits stand out:

  • Keep pets indoors during the flight
  • Allow for a change of day in poor weather
  • Give us the full address so we can check the airspace
  • Clear a spot on the drive or lawn

Keep the photos with your property records. They give you something to compare against later.

After a storm, check from the garden and the street. Debris in the garden is a sign to act on. A drone survey can show what has shifted.

What a survey costs

A few things affect what a survey costs:

  • Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
  • The height of the building and how the roof can safely be seen
  • Roof area
  • How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets

Prices start from £400, including VAT. Packages run from Basic at £150 through Standard at £250 to Premium at £400, including VAT, and we can help you choose.

What to let us know when you contact us

These details help when you contact us:

  • The style of property, from a terrace to a block
  • Any marks or damp showing indoors
  • When you need the report by
  • Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them

To arrange a survey, ring 07833 053749 or email us and tell us the address and what’s prompted the survey. You’ll know the price before anything is booked.

What you can safely check yourself

If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.

After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.

Airspace, weather and Hogben's Hill roofs

Across Kent, older roofs are frequently handmade clay or peg tiles, and tile-hanging on upper walls is a familiar sight. Oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses are part of the county’s older buildings too. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from the ground, drone photos and thermal images add detail. Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight.

With Belmont House and Gardens about 2.9 miles west, the area around Hogben's Hill has a long history. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from ground level, and a survey by drone or thermal camera doesn’t touch the roof itself. For an older house near a landmark like Church of St Mary, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that’s where a view from the air or with a thermal camera helps. If you look after a building such as Selling Church of England Primary School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

What happens on the day

Once we have finished looking, we write up our findings as a written report with photos. As for time on site, it normally takes an hour or two for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. For a village or hamlet like Hogben's Hill, the journey is planned ahead of time: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. The roof is looked at from the ground, from windows, from the loft where there’s safe access and from the roof where it is safe.

  1. You give us the address and tell us about the roof.
  2. Any flight restriction at the address is checked, with permission requested if required.
  3. We assess the conditions and the take-off spot first.
  4. The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
  5. You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

Advice

Rented homes, blocks and businesses

Shared roofs need a little more planning: we need access agreed with the building owner or managing agent. Tell us about it as you book and we’ll plan the survey around it.

We also survey roofs for businesses and commercial landlords, from shops and offices to industrial units. Larger roofs take longer, and they’re priced for the size.

Hogben's Hill questions

Do you cover smaller places like Hogben's Hill?

We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one, with the route planned beforehand.

Are there drone restrictions around Hogben's Hill?

Normally it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. High wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.

Are you insured?

Every survey is covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance, and we can provide details if a managing agent needs them.

Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?

Yes. Shared roofs just need a little more planning, with whoever owns or manages the building. Tell us about it when booking and we’ll plan the survey around it.

What do I do with the report?

We email you the written report with photographs and recommendations. It’s yours to share with a seller, insurer, roofer or managing agent, whichever applies.

Is this an asbestos survey?

No. We can flag materials that might contain asbestos, but only a specialist asbestos surveyor can confirm it. It may be present in buildings built or refurbished before 2000.

Do you carry out surveys on Saturdays and Sundays?

We survey on any day from Monday to Sunday, during the day, which suits people who work during the week. Just say which days work for you.
