Why act early in Hogben's Hill

A defects or warranty period doesn’t last for ever. Checking the roof before it ends gives you time to raise anything we find. Outbuildings and barns around Hogben's Hill are easy to forget, but a failed roof there can spoil what’s stored inside. It is worth including them in a survey before a winter does the damage.

One thing that affects the price is the package: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 or Premium from £400, all including VAT. The roof’s size, height and access matter as well.

About our new roof snagging in Hogben's Hill

Our inspection covers the slates or tiles, ridges, verges, hips and valleys, along with the flashings and ventilation. At the eaves we check how the underlay is dressed into the gutter, where it can be seen, and we look at the gutters too. The report sets out what we found with photographs. Any debris left behind or damage to other parts is recorded too. If you’ve noticed untidy or loose verge details and debris left in gutters or valleys, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.

Older buildings in small places like Hogben's Hill may be listed or in a conservation area. That can affect what materials a new roof may use, so check with the council and Historic England’s list. For a buyer or someone with a newly finished roof, it’s worth knowing which applies, as well as what condition the roof is in. England has around 10,000 conservation areas and about 500,000 listed buildings.

With the Standard Survey, you also get moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

Helping us price your survey

To price your survey accurately, we will ask about:

  • Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
  • The kind of building and roof involved
  • How the loft is reached, if there is one

What we are asked to look at in Hogben's Hill

Scaffolding and materials can damage other parts of a building. A snagging check looks around the property as well as at the roof.

A survey can pick up problems such as:

  • Vents that weren’t fitted or are covered
  • Gutters or fascias damaged during the job
  • Broken coverings left on a new roof
  • Untidy or loose verge details

If you live in an older home near Church of St Mary, the roof’s history matters as much as its looks, and a survey brings the past repairs to light.

Before you book anyone

What a roof survey includes

Honest limits

Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so there are some things a survey cannot cover:

  • Areas out of view from every safe vantage point
  • Estimates of what fixes will cost
  • Legal advice on your contract

Roof types and parts we check

  • Flashings and valleys
  • New flat roofs
  • Ridges and verges
  • Loft conversions and dormers
  • Replacement roofs
  • New-build homes

What we look for on each type of roof

Valleys

Valleys carry a lot of water, so it needs to be finished well. The lining and the cut coverings along it are checked.

Slate roofs

Natural slate can last 100 years or more, so a new slate roof should be laid well. We look for slipped, cracked or uneven slates.

Local roofs and buyers in Hogben's Hill

Older homes in the wider area often have features worth a closer look, like lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years. Many older homes in Kent have handmade clay tiles, including Kent peg tiles held by pegs through two holes, and tile-hanging on their upper walls. Oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses are part of the county’s older buildings too. The covering on a house you’re buying, or on a roof just finished, tells us where to look hardest.

How the survey works

After the inspection, everything we found is written up in a report with photographs, sent to you by email. As for time on site, most surveys take between one and two hours for most homes, depending on how much new work there is to check. Rural addresses near Hogben's Hill can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions are welcome. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.

  1. We ask what work was done and when it was finished.
  2. The new coverings, ridge, hips and verges are inspected where it is safe to see them.
  3. Flashings, valleys, gutters and visible underlay at the eaves are looked at.
  4. Where it’s safe, we check the loft, then look for debris or damage left behind.
  5. You get a photo report listing the snags we found.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller
  • Check we can get to the back of the property
  • Make sure the loft hatch can be reached

Questions from Hogben's Hill

Do you cover smaller places like Hogben's Hill?

We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one, with the route planned beforehand.

Do you carry out roof surveys in Hogben's Hill?

We do. The survey and report are the same in Hogben's Hill as anywhere else.

Will you check every nail and clip?

No. We don’t open up the new roof, so fixings under the coverings cannot be checked. We note what couldn’t be seen.

Will you walk on the roof?

Only where it’s safe to do so. We inspect whatever is safely visible: from ground level, from windows and vantage points, from the roof space, from the roof itself where safe and by drone where applicable. The report says if anything couldn’t be seen.

Do I need to be at home?

That depends on the survey. For inside areas and the loft space, someone has to give us access, while outside access can be discussed when you book.

How long does new roof snagging take?

A visit typically takes roughly 1–2 hours for most houses, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. You will know roughly how long when we arrange it.

The quickest way is to call 07833 053749 or drop us an email. Tell us the address and a little about the roof, and we’ll take it from there. Surveys run on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
